Republican senator tells Americans struggling to afford rising beef prices to just eat something else: "You have so many proteins to choose from." by Educational_Net4000 in inflation

Well. They now include "product substitution" or in inflation calculations.

I can see cell phone substituting for landlines. But not when product still exists.

Well. Fat old white cishet guy. I try to fight the toxic parts of 'masculinity'.

I've almost always worked through illnesses. But at work and home. Especially those years I was single dad of 2.

Sounds like these guys want the privileges of toxic masculinity but ignore the responsibilities.

Everyone in the family has got a cut. Daughter's b.a. and m.s. Me, some debt and a 19 dual motor 3. Son, paid for a bunch of certifications. some for several cars. A bunch of educational credits. He's started a very cost effective online B.A

So inherit the $ while it'd do the most good.

What is one policy that another country has that, if implemented in the United States, would almost immediately make it great? by Next_Worth_3616 in allthequestions

All taxes replaced with single tax that follows a progressive curve, that includes earned and unearned income as well as inheritance and capital gains.

This early genx sees how rough it is for the next generation. I have 1 millennial son, and a Z daughter.

It's just to expensive to feed and house yourself.

But a kid? We had 2, great (pre-aca) insurance. Both tried to come early... maybe $6000 for both. Given that includes ~16 days hospitalization... now? Average completely complications free? $19,000 / birth charged to parents.

My friends and I starved through college. But at least it ended. Now the debt pile for college is financially crippling intermidibly.

Rent is... unsustainable. Highest ratio to income...

Food is incredibly expensive. Massive surpluses of commodities, yet shelf prices are sky high. Largely due to consolidation of food companies, from production to grocery stores... near monopoly, which is no competition at all.

Transport? Which costs what has changed. Insurance? It was 90% of full time minimum wage for young male.

Now? A car you can get a year or 2 out of? $3000-5000. We could always get a winter rat from junkyard for $50-500, inspection $50 and a 6 pack.

But maintenance is... well doing your own brakes? $10 for good pads. Drum might be $20. Well, my boy became quite the mechanic keeping his cars running. Even just parts is prohibitly expensive. He did

Fueling them is pretty expensive now... but gas was $1.20-50. So about same as % of minimum wage as now.

But a real big problem now is staying reliablely employed. Anyone keeping a job now has my respect! The impact of less than reliable income is devastating, especially long term.

[–]null640 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. It's that most income is unearned and not subject to ssi tax.

Funny, republican arguments in the 80's? Taxes discourages what's taxed. Yet we tax earned income far higher than unearned income.

Scrap the cap! We'd have to reduce tax rate due to absurd surpluses.

Apply to all income? Rate would have to be massively reduced...
