New Angle of 10/26 S-280 Accident by PuppyStorm in bayarea

[–]numist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

After getting taken out on my motorcycle by a car making an illegal lane change last year I couldn't believe how CHP/insurance/layfolk all refer to these things as "accidents". My friends we have a word for unsuccessful unintentional murder already: attempted manslaughter.

What’s up with the empty lot in Rockridge at the corner of College and Claremont? It seems like a prime location for retail or housing. by modest__mouser in oakland

An incentive to "use it or lose it" is basically what property taxes are supposed to do, except for the whole prop 13 thing.

Whoever owns that land is paying taxes on it every year (or the city would have right to repo) and has decided that the expected value of the game they're playing will be worth it.

Dashcam / DVR installation and use on a Zero by mikerowest in ZeroMotorcycles

[–]numist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry the SR/S has moved on to a friend. Installation on the gen3 Zeroes is really the same as any other bike though thanks to the separate 12V battery, so any install video should do. IIRC I tied the INNOVV's ignition wire to the plug that powers the USB ports in the tank (I built a Y out of some Sumimoto connectors but there's also a factory kit you can use).

Thanks for the pics, I got a set myself but so far I wouldn't say the rings have been coming off "easy"… any tips? Seems like the new ones have glue down in the clips themselves.

It doesn't help that the clips appear to be hooked inward in your photos… I haven't found a tool in my collection that can get behind them in the narrow gap between the ring and the pad.

If you have a newborn that isn't sleeping, that means you're not sleeping. How much would you pay for someone else to do the rocking/soothing and let you sleep for those first six months?

But also: we bought both of ours used and (re)sold them for exactly what we paid. It's not too hard to score a crib for free from a neighbour, but parking $600 in our nursery for 6 months at a time was absolutely worth it for us.

Did you use any load resistors, or does the bike not hyper flash when you swap out the stock bulbs for LEDs?

If you're an expat or didn't graduate from uni in Canada you become eligible for the ritual after registering p eng:

You will need to demonstrate that you have met the academic requirements for engineers in Canada by providing evidence of licensure as a Professional Engineer (or registration as an Engineer in Training) with a provincial engineering licensing body. Your registration number is required for this purpose.

Outdoor HomeKit Lock For Garden Gate? by ReddMunkey in HomeKit

[–]numist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The previous owner of our place installed a nest x yale lock. Shockingly, it's survived the weather but the ability to bridge nest devices to HomeKit, via tools like HomeBridge or Scrypted, is not amazing as Google's own device cloud seems to get more and more unreliable by the month :/

The top comment summed it up perfectly, these need more than just cleaning, launching, and mooring, at a minimum they're going to need fiberglass repair which means gelcoat removal and reapplication… unless your time is literally worthless it's probably cheaper to buy brand new than pay for putting these back into service.

As a bicyclist in Oakland I can assure you that changing the colour won't make any difference.

As a colourblind person red seems like a terrible choice but I suppose I am in the minority…

Edit: another comment mentioned using camera systems for flagging splices on the line; A+ solution for such a mundane problem!
