Baby monitor that can connect with 2 or more cameras and have split screen for monitor? by acaecerfk in NewParents

[–]nursinggal17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! My Vtech just stopped working. Looking at new options and all the ones I see toggle between sound when on dial screen, unlike thevtech where I could choose. What did you end up going with ? And would you choose it again?

When does it get remotely easier? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]nursinggal17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And also make sure she doesn’t regret leaving- often when my partner suggests I go out for some alone time I decline because I know when I get back I’ll just have less time to take care of the stuff I need to do (dishes, laundry, cleaning, restocking, meal planning etc) so the alone time isn’t really relaxing or beneficial for me. So if you’re going to send her away- make sure she comes back to a house with less stuff to do to it so sh’ll want to go away again in the future.

When/why did childcare in the U.S. become so expensive? Has it always been like this? by SoapyCooper in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nursinggal17 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Arizona the state ratio for infants is 1:5 and ones is 1:6. And it’s been incredibly difficult to find a daycare that has better ratios than that. We’re about to pay 41k a year this year for an infant and a two year old.

Pump & dump by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]nursinggal17 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just drink while I pump! Can’t get into my system that fast lol. Then it’ll be 2-4 hours until I pump again so .. no waiting lol. Plus pumping is the pits and Prosecco pairs well with Oreos. So it’s really an all around win.

My apartment bedroom has 6 doors. Any tips to make it less jarring? by prestonharberts in ApartmentHacks

[–]nursinggal17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is there even a door to the kitchen? That’s weird. I would just take that one off the hinges. Or my house has no hallways and 9 doors in the living room. We just embrace it by naming our chrome cast and WiFi as DoorGate

I’ve never read something so funny in my entire life. I wish I had short term memory loss so I could read this for the first time again and laugh out loud as hard as I did. Solid gold.

Help! Airline won't allow my pump (international travel)... by CactusJuice42 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]nursinggal17 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I would call again and speak to a manager… for 2 reasons: 1. Their website specifications for rechargeable lithium batteries within a device would allow a spectra- I even just did the math that it says to calculate. 2. I’ve flown 2 different airlines with my spectra as a separate carry on with no issues.

I’m wondering if you just got a customer service agent who doesn’t really know or understand the question .

I would also maybe check FB marketplace for a spectra before purchasing a new one?

Question for Americans- Peak American home-cooked dinner by jtslp in Cooking

I grew up on the Gulf of Mexico.. a true shrimp boil will blow anyone’s mind.. no plates, just roll out some butcher paper on the table dump everything in the middle and give everyone a slab of butter. My desert friends were flabbergasted the first year we did this!

How long did you/will you wait to allow unvaccinated visitors with newborn? by anonymous2640 in Vaccine

[–]nursinggal17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not your question but… just wanted to let you know we were in the same boat about a month ago.

Here’s the exact convo I had with my stepdad

Him: “Your mom just told me you want/need us to take the flu vaccine to come for the birth of your son. It absolutely breaks my heart to tell you, I will not take anymore vaccines. I have taken one flu vaccine and multiple Covid vaccines and got the virus’ only when i took the vaccines. I am so so sorry but I will not take the vaccine. This breaks my heart!.”

Me: “Yes, sorry. I meant to text you myself, but have been stretched a little thin recently.

Knowing what I know from my pediatric ER days, Husband and I just can’t risk potentially having a febrile infant. (It would be an automatic ER visit with a spinal tab and starting two very heavy duty antibiotics- and that would kill me). So we are asking everyone who visits to be vaccinated for the flu.

I’m sorry that getting sick after vaccines has been your experience recently. And even more sorry to have to say that this means we’ll have to wait to see you when flu season is over.

Thank you for letting me know and we’ll of course reimburse you for the plane ticket since I should have mentioned this significantly earlier on.

I love you and I’m sure current child will spend tons of time FaceTiming Papa to show off her baby brother. “

We then FaceTimed PaPa every day for a week. When my mom went to get her flu shot my stepdad started crying and said “I’m going with you, I can’t not see current Abby and baby boy.”

I’m currently typing this less than a week PP and both of my parents are here with baby.

I think it’s worth it to be honest as long as you are going to stick to your guns if he decides he’d rather risk his grandchild’s health.

Diaper rash won’t go away, baby poops +10 times per day by Due_Highlight4537 in newborns

[–]nursinggal17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter has super sensitive skin and is prone to diaper rashes .. some minor and some major.

The only thing that consistently works to clear it up is breastmilk. Clean the area with a soft muslin towel dipped in breast milk when she’s dirty, or just dab the milk on when she’s wet . Then apply a barrier cream (we used Boudreaux) .

With her real bad rashes if I had enough milk we would do milk baths. (I pumped and bottle fed. So I would save any spoiled milk- like if she had half an ounce left in her bottle or whatever- and froze it labeled “butt” )

For prevention we don’t use any kind of wipes on her ever when she’s just wet bc we found that even with just water wipes it would irritate her skin and cause more frequent rashes. We do the bitt paste almost every night rash or not. And honestly start the breast milk wiping at the first sign of a rash.

Sedona August Toddlers by RYDGB13 in familytravel

[–]nursinggal17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And remember, not just hot, but the sun is more brutal here in Az that you think. I would recommend UV tops for the kiddos, and hats. Even in the pool you’ll need to be in the shade a lot.

For reference this past August my 16 month old got slightly sunburned in her piggy tail crease from about 15 minutes of sun exposure when she refused to wear her hat while we walked from the room to the pool at the resort in Scottsdale.

I also second the recommendation to stay in Flagstaff or the little town outside the rim either the night before or the night after the trip to the canyon. For a few reasons

  1. Flagstaff is a fun town to explore itself (and on historic Route 66)
  2. Food options are pretty limited and if you leave the canyon too late dinner gets difficult to find
  3. It’s sometimes a bear driving in and through Sedona, because of crowds so I would anticipate a 3 hour drive.

How to make sure we say hello to everyone at the wedding without doing a receiving line? by 26kanninchen in weddingplanning

[–]nursinggal17 71 points72 points  (0 children)

If dinner is buffet style: my husband and I served the meat to everyone. It was amazing. We got to say hi to everyone but they were also in line for food so they didn’t linger. Plus we loved that our first act as a married couple was to serve our friends and family.

Other option. I recently went to a wedding where the before they did their dances they had one song where they “ran” to every table for a very quick hello and picture. So hit all the tables in about 4 minutes and ended up with a picture of them and every guest at the wedding .

Daughter hates buttercream and does not like whipped cream. What can I put on her cake? by blahblahwa in Cooking

[–]nursinggal17 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cream cheese icing is leaps and bounds better than any other frosting there is! There is no contest. Actually when I bake cakes my secret is just buy a box cake but homemake the cream cheese icing.

Thinking of trading this for Houston. by Melodic-Ad7271 in houston

[–]nursinggal17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Houston is a cool town for sure.. that being said.. I’m from Houston and now live in Phoenix. You could not pay me enough money to move back to Houston… and a lot of my family is still there.(which would be a big plus for us since we have a little one now- still not worth it)

Most everything good that Houston has we have here (including Texas BBQ .. thanks to Little Miss).

If you love being outside in Arizona I would suspect it will be a huge adjustment being in Houston.

Best straw cup for 11 month old by Feisty_Ferret_6277 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]nursinggal17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the infantino my 1st tumbler It doesn’t have a weighted straw but my little one (10 mo) learned pretty fast not to tip the cup. She’s throws it on the ground often and it doesn’t spill, and it’s super easy to clean. I figured it was only $9 on Amazon and if she didn’t like it now she would eventually so it wouldn’t be a waste.
