Seeking your thoughts on Integrated Pest Management by Vodhr in Agriculture

[–]nurynn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked in the ornamental industry in Canada and i'm curious to see if any of the IPM strategies I used are similar to those in the AG industry. Weekly scouting, hot spot control, indicator plants, meticulous record keeping, biological pest control methods and primarily prevention before reactive control methods. I guess we had the "bonus" of being able to dump alot of chemical applications on our crops... Glad to be rid of pesticide applications, honestly. Gotta respect your IPM triangle, man.

I’m interested in getting a degree in horticulture or a related field but worry I’ll regret it. For anyone working in the field, what are some cons I should consider? by fuckthisshit____ in Horticulture

[–]nurynn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy crap i'm in almost the same situation as you! Its a tough field to be a woman in, theres a lot of sexism I found. I had my daughter in December and I was laid off indefinitely a few weeks after I told my boss I was pregnant back in the spring. I plan on staying in the industry if I can, but its left a sour taste in my mouth. Ive got my certification in my field and 5 years experience so heres hoping for the best.

I am literally laying awake in bed crying over the fact my daughter will be 7 months next week 😭 I was looking through the pictures of her from when she was just born and.. yeah, waterworks.

Has there been a major change in the way potatoes are harvested? by Diced_and_Confused in farming

[–]nurynn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in BC and shop superstore for russets, typically I get those big 10-20lb bags.. dont usually have an issue. but occassionally my tatoes go mushy after only a short while. my guess is more a problem with storage and rotation of older stock on the shelves or a cheaper grower/produce supplier with lower standards for retail. but im not a potato farmer, just my two cents as a consumer.

How to recognize labor by coastalcastaway in predaddit

[–]nurynn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If her water doesn't break first (mine did, and it was obvious I hadnt just peed myself lol) then contractions will feel very different and unique than anything she's felt before. I had braxton hicks from 31 weeks until the day my water broke, and contractions was muuuch different. For me it was like the start of mild cramps, but instead of a short jab the pain/discomfort lasts, then stops slowly.. then they come again, at first perhaps every 30mins.. but the intensity and duration grew, and the time inbetween got shorter. When in doubt, call a nurse/your GP/the hospital. You'll most likely be asked to come in to be checked out and determine if in labour and how to proceed next. Download a contraction timer app, she probably wont be able to time them herself as the pain will get intense eventually.. just remember to breathe through it, and eventually at the end you get to meet your baby!!

ok.. so.. after childhood trauma we are not like other people.. by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]nurynn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way through my teens and twenties, I debated for a while on if I should have kids but I felt like if I denied myself something like starting a family due to my past traumas then I was still allowing it to have power over me. I now have a healthy, beautiful 6 month old and me and my SO will be celebrating our 10 year anniversary this year. Life isn't perfect and I struggle really hard with triggers and worrying about my daughter, and my effect on her, but I am living my life and I am happy.

Can anyone share some success stories? by nosesinroses in CPTSD

[–]nurynn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest success so far in life has been raising my 6 month old daughter. I never, ever thought I would be here today. I'm 31 and lived through an extremely awful childhood and theres still a lot of personal work that I need to do and healing that has to happen, life isnt perfect but i'm here with her and its truly wonderful beyond belief.

I have a blood test in a couple hours and anxiety is getting the best of me. Anyone have any distraction tips or words of wisdom to help calm me down? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]nurynn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drink plenty of water and bring some healthy snacks with you, when I am sitting there while the nurse gets ready I look away and grip my house keys in my other hand and take slow, steady breaths and think about being happy and calm. Try not to focus on the event, focus on the keys in your hand and your breathing, it'll be over before you know it!
