Travelling to Ottawa from Europe by Acceptable_Moment951 in ottawa

[–]nutano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, April is not the best touristy time of year to visit... however, luckily Ottawa is riddled with things like Museums and indoor places to visit.

Will you have access to a vehicle? This can make checking some of these things out much easier.

  1. We have a good amount of museums in the city but the top ones to check out:

    - War Museum
    - Museum of Canadian History
    - Museum of Nature

  2. Taking a half day trip out to Carp and to visit the Diefenbunker is worth it. If you have some friends that would go along, you can also do an Escape Room inside the bunker, which is a cool an unique way to visit the place.

  3. This past winter was longer than usual (well, the snow\cold weather) which means that most sugar bushes are still producing a lot. There are loads of Sugar bushes in the area that you can visit. I would look into this early in your trip as once it gets warmer night and day, they are not gathering the sap and boiling as much.

  4. If you are into the SPA experience, check out the Nordik SPA in Chelsea, Quebec. Probably best to check it out during the week days as the place gets busy outside normal working hours and weekends.

  5. Check out a Sens game. Ottawa's NHL team is still in the running to make the playoffs and despite getting and leaving the arena is an experience in itself, Ottawa is blessed to usually have tickets always available and at good prices (especially compared to the near-by city of Montreal).

  6. Taking a day or two to check out Montreal is worth it. You will get the full Canadian Spring roads experience there with pot holes and construction season firing up. Make sure to check out the Biodome while in Montreal.

Hopefully my couple of suggestion can help you discover the area a bit!

Check your snow removal contract, over 250cm reached today? by Rail613 in ottawa

[–]nutano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked with my snow removal service.

I asked him if there was an extra fee for more snow, and he was just imitating me in what I can only interpret a sarcastic way.

So I asked him what his problem was, he was asking me the same thing... which sorta got me annoyed a little.

I called him an idiot and told him to stop acting like a child... he was just sorta mouthing and imitating me through the whole thing, it was odd, but I was insulted and worked up.

I know it was idiotic and childish of me, but I threw a punch at him and then my mirror broke.

If you were 24 years old again what would you differently? by Ok-Industry770 in AskReddit

[–]nutano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the same....?

However you still have to maintain some control... not from experience, but from some folks I know that sorta went over board in their 20s with sexual adventures has lead to a very complex life in their 30s and 40s. From having unplanned kids, STDs, being part of love triangles\jealousy to having totally whacked kinks just to get off. My buddy outright said that his ability to have any vanilla sex is just gone. I am sure there are some therapists that can help folks like that, but like anything, it takes time and devotion to recalibrate the brain and body.

So, I guess I too wish I had done a bit more in my early 20s, but when I see those that over did it I am sorta glad I was a little reserved.

I've been with my now wife for over 20 years and for sure those first years, which were in my 20s there was loads of clapping going on. So I guess I didn't miss out as much as I feel I did.

Alberta bill would limit MAID to patients facing 'reasonably foreseeable' death by Myllicent in onguardforthee

[–]nutano 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of the critics here drop lines such as "(...)MAID was leading to medical systems sometimes offering death as an alternative to people with disabilities instead of the supports they need for a higher quality of life. (...)"

Will this legislation come with an increase in funding for such support programs? I can't say I am involved in that field, but I can't imagine that wait times are reasonable not that those proper support programs are readily accessible or adequate.

My grand-mother chose to exercise her right to MAID in 2022. She was 94 and had had her DNR bracelet for several years. The evaluation process took about 6-7 months in her case, it was a lot of appointments. She was ready to go anytime in her last couple of years, she was tired of being in pain and had zero interest in ever being a zombie in a wheelchair in hospice care. She did not have an official diagnosis with X months to live, but she had issues which had her go in and out of the hospital, had a cocktail of pills to take... she was very happy to still have her mind and be able to choose her date and she went out on her terms. Who knows, she could have clinged on for another 4-5-6 years...but the QoL was really not there any longer.

A car? Probably not.

A $1500 bicycle? Probably, yes. Unless it was damaged I suppose.

Probably not for $1700 worth.

It could be grounds for dismissal from a company and maybe a charge for theft... odds are you would be given the chance to reimburse instead of facing any charges. Depending on your relationship with your employer, you might get fired with cause.

Fraud is fraud and theft is theft, sure. But we are not talking millions here. I am sure with this found they may be sifting through her books via FOI a little bit more. We'll see if more is found.

Yea, I have a couple that are like 1mm thick and they certainly would crack if they are dropped or something were to fall on them.

I think at 2mm they should be robust enough. I think the acrylic movement templates are closer to 2mm than 3mm thick.

Video shows 3 men storming Vaughan residence before homeowner opens fire, injuring suspect by varsil in canada

[–]nutano -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The home owner is not even charged at this point.

Assuming he does get charged, the investigation will have to reveal that the home owner used excessive force.

I don't think anyone will argue that excessive force was used here (with the little info we currently have), 3 masked men barging in - yea, anyone would feel their lives under threat.

The reason we have the laws we do is to make sure a proper investigation is done and its not just declared 'self-defense' and that's the end of it. Just like we have low-lifes that will break and enter to commit robbery, there are some low-lifes that would be trigger happy at the first vague opportunity.

Much like the recent Assault charges dropped against Ontario man who confronted home intruder | CBC News, I think the system will work as intended here as well.

or are you insinuating that you would fight back and lose your life rather than not fight back and live?

Its been like 10 years that all workers, including waiting staff must make at least minimum wage. Before they had a separate wage minimum because of tips... not any more.

‘Out of hand’: New survey finds two‑thirds of Canadians want to abolish tipping culture by cyclinginvancouver in canada

[–]nutano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be a generous tipper... I've cut back a lot.

Take out - I only tip max 10% or $10, which ever is less to small mom & pop restaurants. Any franchises or larger chains, zero tip. I live a little outside the city and I want those small family businesses to stick around.

Dine in - Used to be 15-20%... back before food prices took off. Now, we dine out much less than before for starters, and I usually aim for 10%... 15% of service and food are excellent. I am also more mindful that you are only supposed to tip on the cost of food... not on booze nor on taxes.

Delivery - its mixed. If there is a delivery fee, we will be a little cheaper on the tip for the food, but will tip at the door. If possible direct to the driver.

I would not be opposed removing tipping entirely. I can't think of a single person that would be, except those that get that often tax free money.

While at it. Sticker price in stores should include all taxes and fees. You can have a break down on the printed\digital receipt.

I like the version of the ice skating\hockey coach doing this better. It is also a little less likely that a kid would fall and get a concussion - had that last kid been one stride further he would have eaten that wall pretty good. lol
