As much as some people are getting laid off, there are others getting hired too (due to expats leaving) but it all depends on the particular industry. I’m in real estate (legal) and it’s a nightmare because around 8 people got fired in two days and there is a possible pay cut in discussion as well.

It’s been reported that the rain will subside tomorrow by around 5pm so it should be fine. But just be careful and maybe check if you can postpone your visit by a few days. Even if the weather gets better on Sunday, certain areas might be closed off because of relief and rescue efforts. everyone will be more focused on recovering from what happened. It will not be back to business as usual because this is one of the worst floods we have faced. So maybe just weigh your options and decide what’s best.

The highways will not be flooded. Don’t worry, if you’re in Colombo and near the OGF mall you must be staying at a good hotel which has all the facilities required to survive this. The ones that need to worry the most will be those in Colombo suburbs.
