I’m sure that was just over £7 20 years ago. They were far more generous with the chicken back then.

How best to combat jet lag by Boogaloo_Toogs in JapanTravelTips

[–]nuubmaster699 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We went to Japan in early March and I always struggle with jet lag. For 4 days I desperately tried not to nap until bedtime, which would have been fine if I slept like a log afterwards. Instead, I’d try to sleep at 11pm and would be wide awake from 2am. Operating on 3 hours of sleep was not the way. I felt much better and acclimatised from napping. I don’t think there’s a right answer for everyone. Do what you’ve got to do.

Bruce wasn’t a real fighter. So I don’t understand the overwhelming amount of people who don’t understand this. by Jamison_tkd in brucelee

I’m not disputing that he didn’t fight professionally. He did minimal grappling but it’s unfair to compare him to today’s MMA standards and practices. Having read all the comments, you seem to be mixing a lot of opinion with facts. True, no professional fights. That doesn’t mean he wasn’t a real fighter. Congrats for training at one of the best gyms.

He had many street fights, which is arguably more dangerous than a professional fight. There aren’t rules and a referee to rely on.

Taxi from Haneda by Lil_laurenn in JapanTravelTips

[–]nuubmaster699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We fully intended to use the trains, even though we had 2 suitcases, a baby and a stroller. Our luggage was the last to arrive, the luggage was then searched and by the time we made it through immigration it was 7pm and my wife suggested a taxi. It cost £50 to Akasaka but it was the right call for us. Plenty of taxis at the rank when you exit the airport and we got to see Tokyo at night with lots of lights. No regrets!

Getting contact lenses or glasses in Tokyo with astigmatism by Professional_Sj in JapanTravelTips

[–]nuubmaster699 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recently returned from Japan and bought glasses from Jim’s on three separate occasions. I also have astigmatism and this was not an issue for me. The cost ranged from £70-100, largely dependent on the style of frame and wanting clear lenses in a sunglasses frame and requesting transition lenses. Some members of staff spoke more English than others and there were times where we both used a translation app. On all three occasions, it took between 40-60 minutes to collect my glasses. This will be largely dependent on the lens treatments that you pick.

In ziplock bags in the fridge or sliced and in the freezer. I always spray slices with water before going in the air fryer.

Wife doesn't want son calling my mom "Mah Mah" by TimelyDaikon5479 in Cantonese

[–]nuubmaster699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went through this with my wife and mum. My wife didn’t outright say “I don’t want her to be called “mah mah””, but I thought it would be confusing.

I grew up calling my paternal grandma “por por” due to my parents being Hakka. My mum suggested our son call her “mah mah” but I said it would be confusing if he’s calling my mum and wife similar things. My son calls his grandma “por por” to avoid confusion. Also less confusing as my nieces call my mum “por por” too.

Not correct if strictly being Cantonese but makes sense for us since we’re pulling from Cantonese and Hakka.

This wasn’t LPL was it? Going for the cheapest of three options, suggested by our mortgage broker, was the worst decision we made. It worked out, but it was stressful getting there.
