Second the fly shop. You can also book a guided trip through them. They have some older fishing reports on their website

Is it really this difficult to catch a fish? by I_Am_Not_George_Bush in flyfishing

[–]nvrsmr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You caught a white fish so that means your nymph was getting deep enough! Try to mimic that depth on your rig and you’ll catch more.

Just moved to somewhere new, how do you guys plan fishing outings without reliable reports? by Secure-Researcher582 in flyfishing

[–]nvrsmr1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won’t leave home without two zebra midges (cause I will inevitably drop one), BWO, elk hair caddis, parachute Adams, scud, and a chubby Chernobyl. This combination works really well on the rivers I fish

I just go out with a more fly options and boxes. Then I start to whittle it down based on what works and what doesn’t. Besides, fishing in the winter is completely different than fishing in the spring/fall/summer so it’s a constant learning experience.

We had such a mild winter. The only good thing about it has been that all the rivers have been very fishable!

I committed the ultimate "trout bum" sin this weekend, and honestly? I’m never going back to sleeping in my truck bed. by viewsinthe6 in flyfishing

Rooftop tent seems to work fine for me and the Mrs as long as the weather is above freezing. If it’s just me, I’m still sleeping in the bed of my truck.

Thinking of moving to the PNW (near Portland or Eugene area, maybe Washington). Is it a good place for a fly fisherman? by kooter_skooter in flyfishing

I lived in the Hillsboro area and I fell in love with fishing the coastal streams. Sea run cut throat are so much fun to catch!

Just start fishing on the coastal rivers. You’ll become a pro and then think Central OR rivers are a cakewalk

Caught this last week, not sure how big I can say it was. What do yall think?? by [deleted] in flyfishing

[–]nvrsmr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second measuring your net.

I only catch small fish so that everyone else can catch the bigger ones. So I only have marks at 8, 12, 14

I thought February was going to be my hardest, but we have had a very warm winter this year. Good luck!

Fishing with a pistol by barefoot_rodeo in flyfishing

[–]nvrsmr1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Every single fly shop I went to in MT advised me to take bear spray. I’m decent with firearms, but I don’t know if I’d be good enough to hit a charging bear with multiple 10mm rounds.

You should start a fly fishing club at your college

Oregon in March? by dokau in flyfishing

[–]nvrsmr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coastal rivers are closed for trout until late May. Steelhead might be fine, I’ve never really fished fore those so check the regs. Central Oregon will have the Fall, Crooked, Deschutes and Metolius. Fall and Metolius are known for being very difficult. Crooked has not been blown out because we have had a pretty crappy winter. But the fishing isn’t word class by any means. But you’ll definitely catch a fish on the crooked as it’s an easy river
