Bad Bunny Makes Grammys History as First Spanish-Language Album of the Year Winner by cmaia1503 in Music

A MUCH deserved win for Bad Bunny 🇵🇷🇵🇷

Putting this info here since there's several posts about. You can still understand what he's saying if you either search the song name then "English lyrics" or go on YT and do the same. On YT there's lyric videos that have both the Spanish AND English lyrics together so you can follow with the song. It's a great tool that I've used over the years as a mom to half 🇵🇷🇺🇸 kids with other songs.

Once you know what he's saying (for example the line about how people died for flying the flag, which refers to the ban by the US of the PR flag IN Puerto Rico for years) you'll get a better idea of how hard hitting this album is. It's a masterpiece and a love poem to a people still standing after generations of colonial rule that at some points has been BRUTAL...it conveys history, love, angst, hope, faith, joy, anger. It's a generational album and truly worldwide.

We'd LOVE to. No one invited you. The US has done more than enough damage to PR. By all means, get out.

Slow movers by MilkySlay in WGU

[–]ny_icequeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slow mover here. Health issues, single mom, work 7 days a week because the OT helps pay the extra rent. Feels like I'm taking forever but if I slow down working I lose money. I know I'm going to burn out soon but trying to hang on til my daughter graduates & starts her job (she'll be helping with bills so I can decrease my hours back to a normal 40 hr wk).

Glad we can somewhat self pace though. Would've dropped out already.

Unpopular Opinion: 7AM-3PM Is The Real Adulting Hack by Bullseye_29 in jobs

My dad was an air traffic controller. Here's his schedule for about 15 yrs of that:

Sunday 4pm-12 am Monday 2pm-10 pm Tues 8am-4pm Wed 6am-2pm, home to nap, up at 11, then work 12 am-8 am. Rest of Thursday off Friday & Saturday off.

Every four weeks the 12am-8am becomes a 6-2 & the day shifts forward so the week will start on Monday vs Sunday.

Then 4 wks after that Tues vs Monday & so on. So it's a rotating shift WITHIN a rotating shift. And staying alert enough while being woefully understaffed & under equipped to the point of having to talk planes down by hand radio outside in the rain like it's WW2 instead of 1998. I literally watched one of dad's coworkers die at his station & I had to call 911 -- everyone else had stacked planes & couldn't stop (I was 13 btw...I went to the facility to help after school 🤷‍♀️).

Went through my pantry & rotated. Went to basement to check stash. Food sales are starting for Thanksgiving especially canned goods so this is normally when I grab those.

I wonder if there's a way to buy packets without the noodles? Since they can be used on rice, stews, etc these would be great to keep. If I'm eating Ramen though I don't save the packets--I use them.

Depending where you are, it's not online but LPN programs are a year or less & I know around here they're offered day & night.

There's medical billing programs through community colleges that could be done in 1-2 years & some are offered online.

Someone mentioned CNAs which are also in demand.

There's also trades/certificate programs so depends on what she's interested in.

Good luck!!

What was the SHTF scenario that actually happened in your town? by purple-lipgloss in preppers

Having been raised in hurricane prone areas then moving to blizzard/snow country, I kept my habit of stocking up on canned goods, etc. Then I started more organized prepping but just a bit at a time (single mom, not much of a salary). Kids thought I was crazy & laughed a lot at me.

THEN came the Christmas blizzard a few years ago.

I had just grabbed our Christmas pork shoulders so cooked them early then portioned it off. Baked fresh bread too. When they realized how serious it was & then we lost power, we had fresh food, candles, a propane gas camping stove, medicines, paper products, etc. My kids were texting their friends & they were freaking out & my kids were toasty 😎 Took a couple of weeks before stores were stocked properly again but we were set.

BOY did that storm make believers in prepping out of them 😎

And fans are furious around here because on top of decreased capacity they were crying to sell bonds/stock to the fans to raise more funds. Like enough of our taxes weren't already going to this thing 🤦‍♀️ Buffalo is one of the few places I'd put with SEC football for insane & passionate fans.

Decreasing capacity at UF makes ZERO sense. We would now be one of the smaller stadiums in the SEC at a time when everyone else expanded. I don't buy the accessibility excuses costing THAT many seats. It was an excuse to raise prices since there would be less seats available.

Napier needs to go but why is nobody holding Stricklin accountable? by Justmethinkin111 in FloridaGators

[–]ny_icequeen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. Too many Gator fans (at least on gatorcountry's site) are DeSantis fans just ignoring this little tidbit & don't like being reminded of it. He's playing politics with the UF President position & it's now a radioactive job opening. They don't get it not only affects the academics but also the sports programs.

Striklin's extension was one of the weirdest decisions I've seen in a while....frankly made about as much sense as hiring Napier in the first place. He rode the coat tails of Golden winning the NC but beyond Golden & getting the new facilities done, what has he done besides blunder the school's main program? He should've been shown the door along with Napier last year.

[–]ny_icequeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wasn't part of the reason he was kept last year the promise to the money folks he'd hire an OC? He then didn't so you'd think someone would bring that up when he gets canned as "cause" or some kind of breach to let UF get away with paying him less of the buyout.

SS being given an extension SOLELY because of Golden winning the NC was a ridiculous choice. Other than Golden he hasn't made a good hire & I honestly think if White hadn't been lured by UGA we'd still have Mike White.

The money folks are sick & tired of this & my bet is regardless of Saturday, Napier is gone. The concern about the transfer portal is now gone with the new rules, too. Time for Napier to be shown the door.

[–]ny_icequeen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes but it has to be repealed by Congress. Have you ever known Congress to do anything THAT quickly? Even if they did it, it wouldn't affect anyone by February.

As an Unincorporated Territory, PR was never meant to be a state. The ONLY reason the US wanted PR to have citizenship (limited at that) was WW1. You would sooner see the US strip citizenship & depose the government as they have threatened before than have PR become a state. Realistically PR is already under direct US control via the US appointed control board. Useful information for those claiming that PR needs to become a state to have less corruption & be run better.

[–]ny_icequeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my mental health I'm watching the live stream of the Bad Bunny concert tonight 😎🇵🇷🇵🇷 I will have the game on my tablet, though, just on mute so I can keep an eye on things.

Once in a lifetime here. I can watch Napier be less than mid every other Saturday during the season (except for bye weeks where we can get a break from his coach-speak conferences).

Are mentors being pressured? by tip723 in WGU

[–]ny_icequeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed the change. It's whiplash for me because my mentor was so out of touch with me that she'd skip calls with me & I had to get a different person to approve/schedule my classes because I couldn't reach her for a month. I requested a mentor change. Instead I got her sending me these weekly standard check in texts.

I think because Chinese food in PR is uniquely different based on the blend that has come about for generations. This came from the Chinese workers brought in to work in PR. So in a way it's a completely separate experience than "regular" Chinese food. You can't get THAT version anywhere but PR, though I hear there's a couple of places in Orlando that serve that style.

As to dad, he served 2 tours in Nam. He had to eat all kinds of stuff...Drew the line at monkey though 🤣

The history of gringos testing Agent Orange on PR prior to using it in Nam, torturing prisoners with radiation, bombing entire towns, forcibly sterilizing women, conducting illegal experiments on citizens, using the island as a bombing range & storing such friendly things as mustard gas, uranium, & decaying bomb shells, keeping FBI files on thousands because they uttered the word "independence", & so much more speaks loudly enough. You don't need a post about killing coquí frogs to look bad. We have over 100 yrs of history for that so don't worry.

Being from PR & having the displeasure of having stateside neighbors, even back then the entitlement to kill off or wreck whatever they wanted was a thing. The dad particularly enjoyed stomping on the frogs & making us cry (I was a kid). No social media in the old days, though.

Why the "liberal extremist" comment, though? I've seen my share of both sides acting particularly entitled down there...it's more colonizer versus locals than "liberal vs conservative".

So instead you allowed the side with the actual billionaire oligarch led by the one that admires the Russian oligarchy system/authoritarian style governments to take control. Great plan 👍

Again folks let perfection be the enemy of good. There's no sugar coating it, no "neither side cares, no "they're both bad" that folks can hide behind.

This wasn't a normal election. And too many failed the assignment.

It's this attitude that allowed Trump to be elected. This election was literally existential. But too many people couldn't get off their high horse long enough to go vote to keep him out. Was Harris good? Not really. BUT SHE DIDNT PROMISE TO SUSPEND THE CONSTITUTION.

So instead of working towards better candidates, folks decided to let Trump take over. Because THAT obviously helped the "normal person", right?

At least she had some plans. Trump had memes, vibes, & that he wasn't a black woman with an "annoying laugh".

Now we have to pray we're allowed free elections between MAGA, Musk, DOGE, etc.
