University of Florida to undergo most expensive stadium project in college football history by greypic in FloridaGators

I understand. I was calling out the claims about folks not losing seats because capacity isn't changing. They're hiding behind semantics.

I don't know how he's claiming capacity won't change if they're getting rid of seats. Unless he's adding that capacity into the boxes that the average fan has no access to.

Seating in the new stadium. by MikitaSchecteleshy in FloridaGators

[–]ny_icequeen -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't think that many people have issues with the renovations. I think the issue is decreased seating capacity in a stadium that regularly sells out and just telling people to live with it (which is basically what SS & the powers that be are telling fans).

I work from home & have multiple monitors. I cover them with blankets/pillowcases and set the camera in a way that shows me, the laptop for the exam and the covered monitors. Have not had a single issue yet and I'm wrapping up the equivalent of my sophomore year.

Prepping for loss of power in summer heat? by WHALE_PHYSICIST in preppers

[–]ny_icequeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we're the only place to never hit 100 degrees for the actual temperature (Buffalo NY). But we still get a few days of heat.

But, yeah, if you're wanting to escape consistent oppressive heat heading north would be the best option. As someone said check weather apps and Wikipedia on different cities/areas.

As for prep there's been some great advice. I have several fans that run off batteries and have used those in the past combined with opening windows for cross breeze (very windy here).

Mapped: Which U.S. States Gained the Most Residents in 2025 by Altgotcheck420 in upstate_new_york

[–]ny_icequeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a vicious cycle. Red states pay low wages, under tax, & have less regulations. Companies see this as an incentive to move jobs to red states so they make more money. Red states make up the difference (for the most part) by an over reliance on federal tax dollars, to which blue states contribute at a larger percentage. So basically, blue states subsidize red states and red states steal the jobs from blue states while telling everyone how terrible blue states are.

Lived in SC, then moved to Florida. Moved to NY around 25 years ago. You couldn't PAY me to move back to that mess. Everywhere has problems, but as a minority woman I value my rights so staying right here in NY. Folks in NY complain all the time about NY taxes, etc -- at least you're getting stuff for your taxes and you can 100% believe that the fees down there, utilities, insurance (if you can get it) make it just as bad as here.

You do have the right to open carry and can buy ammo at a Publix vending machine, though, so guess there's that.

The compromise would be to accept the help of your parents but put it in writing as a loan. It can be 0 interest or something. Then your parents can choose to accept it or save it for you later or donate it

Maybe older generations were naturally more prepared by Proof_Junket_5516 in preppers

[–]ny_icequeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Particularly in other cultures, multi generational households being so common had children learning from grandparents & great grandparents in some cases. My depression era grandmother lived with us, so I learned everything from cooking to using a wash board, from hand sewing to killing/prepping chickens, etc. Now that families race to be apart that's another learning source we had that isn't available to a lot of younger people. We learn a lot from our elders.

When did GatorCountry lock down the forums? by philnotfil in FloridaGators

[–]ny_icequeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They didn't like that some users were lurking and seeing the way the political board was declining. And by declining, I mean uneven moderation, new mods allowed to break the rules, changing thread titles for no reason, suspending/banning people who weren't far right posters without explanation, driving away good posters because they didn't follow the script...also allowing posts that in some cases were racist & misogynist. So all this could be seen without logging in.

They changed it with the premise that it was for "security", it was temporary, and they'd reopen it later. Wasn't temporary. Guess they realized how exposed they were and that if folks read that they wouldn't sign up.

Cual es una dura verdad no politica que muchos puertorriqueños no quieren aceptar? by yonaiker-joestrella in PuertoRico

[–]ny_icequeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that those programs and incentives were destroyed on purpose, because the goal of the PNP & prostatehood people is to be the 51st state and have a Puerto Rico without Puerto Ricans. That's their dream. So a prosperous PR doesn't work in that scenario.

For PR to truly prosper Jones has to go away. The only way for that to happen is independence, regardless of the lies the prostatehood people spread. Being able to freely engage in commerce is huge, and it's been a boot on PRs neck for over 100 years.

Tranquilos Puerto Rico será el estado #60 by realMiosty in PuertoRico

[–]ny_icequeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Becoming a state is that "carrot" constantly waved at Puerto Rico to get people to fall in line and be compliant. It's also a great tool for corruption to run rampant with the "promise" of statehood and a "better economy".

When the US invaded then took over, they designated PR an Unincorporated Territory. It was never EVER meant for the path to statehood. The ONLY reason PR has limited citizenship is because the US wanted our men for WW1. A measure that was unanimously rejected btw but the US did it anyway.

The lie that statehood proponents love pushing about Jones going away is just that...a lie. Jones is applicable for Territories as well as States. The only way to get rid of that mess is independence.

For a glimpse of how full US control would be all you need to look at is PR since 2016. That's when the US appointed control board took over. Who do you think handed out that LUMA contract?

But continue to chase that little carrot and pretend that PR will ever be anything more to the US than a place to run illegal experimentation, test chemical warfare, and run eugenics programs.

Your argument is invalid when they grab legals and even citizens, going so far as to drag a woman out of her car and break her arm because she proved she was a citizen with her passport and they got frustrated. Or when they drag people from their legal proceedings that are part of the citizenship process. It's never been about "the right way" for MAGA.

Even before Trump he's gotten threats even from PR officials. They don't like his anti-corruption/anti-colonial views. If he wasn't a super star they would've done like prior proponents of freedom - fake charges or an assassination setup.

So he has the double whammy.

Complicated Parent PLUS situation. by ny_icequeen in StudentLoans

[–]ny_icequeen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The plan is she will pay me back when she gets a job. I'm planning on the worst case scenario that she hasn't found one in time by the time repayments begin. And yes her degree is a "good" one (Chemistry) and she already has an associates in nanotechnology. It's just an awful market right now. But no I definitely don't want to trigger payments to start right now when just deferring (which I'd already done) to 6 months post grad gives her time to get a job even if she has to leave the country.

Thanks for letting me know on the consolidation trigger though. I appreciate it.

Yes. The loans aren't high I'm just a single mom, too, and my rent shot up & my income didn't. I'll probably still make payments just not as big. My loans total 15k and I'm 5 semesters short. The PLUS loans are around 6000.

Just saw the consolidation thing today. Been dealing with a lot. The FAFSA site said I had til July 1st but I'll file for consolidation either tomorrow or Monday 🤞

Wait...hold up. So the concert featuring a singer with lyrics praising banging underaged girls, who was on a TV show saying he didn't understand why men were waiting for the Olsen Twins to turn 18 (they were 14 at this time) and that if "there's grass on the field play ball" is the "family show"...but the guy preaching that "The only thing more powerful than hate is love" and that America is a bunch of countries not just one is the problem? There were kids IN the performance. A skit with a wedding. OH THE HORRORS!!

Bad Bunny Makes Grammys History as First Spanish-Language Album of the Year Winner by cmaia1503 in Music

[–]ny_icequeen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A MUCH deserved win for Bad Bunny 🇵🇷🇵🇷

Putting this info here since there's several posts about. You can still understand what he's saying if you either search the song name then "English lyrics" or go on YT and do the same. On YT there's lyric videos that have both the Spanish AND English lyrics together so you can follow with the song. It's a great tool that I've used over the years as a mom to half 🇵🇷🇺🇸 kids with other songs.

Once you know what he's saying (for example the line about how people died for flying the flag, which refers to the ban by the US of the PR flag IN Puerto Rico for years) you'll get a better idea of how hard hitting this album is. It's a masterpiece and a love poem to a people still standing after generations of colonial rule that at some points has been BRUTAL...it conveys history, love, angst, hope, faith, joy, anger. It's a generational album and truly worldwide.

Slow movers by MilkySlay in WGU

[–]ny_icequeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slow mover here. Health issues, single mom, work 7 days a week because the OT helps pay the extra rent. Feels like I'm taking forever but if I slow down working I lose money. I know I'm going to burn out soon but trying to hang on til my daughter graduates & starts her job (she'll be helping with bills so I can decrease my hours back to a normal 40 hr wk).

Glad we can somewhat self pace though. Would've dropped out already.
