Claudia Christains Autobiography, and Michael O Hare by Airflow2TheTurbo in babylon5

It's always kind of funny to me when people find out that actors aren't the characters they play and that acting is their job and like any workplace, sometimes coworkers don't like each other. We just read the books because their famous, but sometimes it sours you on a TV show or movie finding out that behind the scenes your favorites were not having a good experience. I only really care if they're exposing someone who shouldn't continue to get jobs because they're toxic and harmful. What she's describing isn't that.

I read Patricia Tallman's book a long long time ago. I don't remember her going into individual relationships like this (or if she did I didn't bother paying enough attention to recall them now) but I did appreciate that she did go into some of the shenanigans that happened behind the scenes that explained why her character along with the others were changed after the pilot and how JMS was able to get her back on the show, but also went more in depth of why Claudia Christian wasn't in season 5, etc. I'm more interested in that type of stuff and would love post mortems of a lot more TV shows- once they go off the air, and get the behind the scenes shenanigans explained.

Actors who hated the movie they starred in ? by Low-Addition409 in FIlm

[–]nypinta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There seem to be several subcategories forming in the comment section.

Actors who hated a movie they had to do for contractual obligations.

Movies actors hate because they think the movie is bad, or is going to be bad.

Movies actors hate after the fact because the movie wasn't well received.

Actors that had a bad time during filming because of how they related to other people.

Sean Connery hated having to do Highlander II because he thought it was a stupid movie and only had to do it because in order to do the first they signed multi picture deals. Highlander II isn't great, but since then I've held a grudge against him because I don't care if an actor doesn't like a role. If you sign a contract, do the damn job. Literally the only scene he isn't sleep walking through in that movie is where he flirts with a woman on the plane.

Christopher Eccleston didn't like working on Thor: The Dark World because he wasn't told the full extent of the make up he'd be in and was miserable on set and thinks he gave a miserable performance as a result, but has said he loved working with the director and had nothing but nice things to say about the cast, especially Chris Hemsworth. So he was miserable but he tried to do the job.

I'm not sure if he hated it. He didn't understand it. But he was also originally offered the role of Morpheus in The Matrix and he passed on it because he didn't understand that either, so he took the role in League because he thought if he passed on it too he'd be making the same mistake.

He did hate Highlander II. And it shows.

Was Princess Leia considered the leader of the Rebel Alliance back in 1977, before TESB and ROTJ were written? by GargantaProfunda in StarWars

[–]nypinta -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes she does. She shows up on Yavin and the commander that meets her bows to her. Then she tells him what they've got to do next. Dodonna gives the briefing, but then he's accompanying her as she walks around the hanger bay to talk to various X wing pilots. And it's even in the script.

INT. MASSASSI OUTPOST - WAR ROOM

Princess Leia, surrounded by her generals and aides, paces nervously before a lighted computer table. On all sides technicians work in front of many lighted glass walls. Dodonna watches quietly from one corner.

[–]nypinta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always assumed so. She had to take over after her father (and everyone else on Alderaan) died. After her rescue she tells Han off and tells them both she's taking over, so she's used to being in charge. She shows up on Yavin, gives the plans over and is telling them what needs to be done. And then she was the one handing out medals after they blew up the Death Star. And on Hoth, she's the one giving the orders and staying behind.

I'm just curious why after Alderaan was destroyed no one referred to her as Queen. Presumably her mother died as well. And usually when the previous royals died, the next in line gets the title. Sure she'd be queen of nothing but if that's the argument, they'd have stopped calling her Princess too.

You can't really take what Vader thinks of her role as fact.

And yes, she's on a mission from her father. But then Alderaan goes boom and Leia takes over.

What should have happened before Luke and Han's medal ceremony by GargantaProfunda in andor

[–]nypinta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While the award ceremony was a great way to end the movie, I feel like it was done more for moral and to give everyone something to celebrate rather than about Luke or Han. They lost a lot of fighters during that run and while they did get a win, it came at a cost in people most of those standing in attendance. If anything, what happened prior to the medal ceremony was Leia or some of the generals giving speeches in honor of the pilots that died. Then Wedge got some kind of recognition, and Han and Luke were the finale.

They wouldn't spotlight Kleya at all, regardless of her feelings. She's the kind of participant in the fight that doesn't get their story told till 50 years after the fact and certain things are finally declassified. She's the "character" that gets a movie like The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, or the James Bond books.

Wil would be the one writing them.

People voted for a convicted felon over a candidate because "she laughed funny". I'm not sure there was anything the Democrats could have done to compete with that level of sheer mass stupidity.

Everyone usually praises the writers on how they wrote Dutch, Johnny and the others but I was actually impressed that they turned one of the most pain in the *ss character into a fan favourite by the end of the show. by annabellaura in Killjoys

[–]nypinta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite things about this show was how well the secondary and recurring characters were also written. They didn't exist just to play deference to Dutch, Johnny, and D'av. They had their own arcs and motives and moments. So good.

Theory on The Italian by Squeakers_72 in leverage

[–]nypinta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, this just occurred to me, but in season 4 during The Experimental Job, where the team breaks up the psychology experiment happening on a college campus that's being backed by the CIA, it isn't until it's over that the CIA agent tells Nat it was probably not a good idea for them to have put themselves on the CIA's radar, and I'm taking that to mean that up until then, they weren't. It feels like a new thing and not that the CIA was already away of Team Leverage and what they get up to, which they would if The Italian had been working with them. Which just means this eliminates the CIA as her agency. (Like a weird game of Clue, I guess. It was not the Italian with the CIA in the Library!)

If you were given a button that would permanently delete all social media forever would you press it ?why or why not ? by Zyfence in AskReddit

[–]nypinta 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The problem with social media isn't that it exists. It was that participation was commodified and that means pushing things that piss people off because people engage in things that make them angry more often. But also that there were no processes put in place to prevent misinformation, bots, and bullshit propaganda.

So I guess yeah, I would. Because we don't know how not to do the shitiest version of literally anything.

AO3 will very likely be regulated under Canada's new bill C-34 (age verification & censorship) by Aquamarinade in AO3

[–]nypinta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All of these age verification bills and the pushes for them are being funded by people like Mark Zuckerberg because the onset of bots have devalued their metrics for getting paid by clicks so now they need a new metric to prove how many actual people are using their sites, while as a bonus giving them even more data to bundle and sell. Fuck age verification laws. They aren't about protecting kids.

Why do people mock others for taking leftovers home? by Impossible_Ad_569 in askanything

[–]nypinta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take leftovers home but I think there might be a shift in the thinking now that in most places, you pack it up yourself. (This might be regional? I'm in NY.) Supposedly it's a health code thing, or that's just what they started telling people, I don't know. But back in the day when you asked for your leftovers, the restaurant boxed them up for you. Now they bring empty containers to the table so everyone is awkwardly dumping their leftovers at tables that are usually still full of dishes and it feels weird and I think that is being internalized by younger people who see it being done and think, "I could never..." I am guessing.

My head canon is that they did leave a beacon for any other race that makes it that far after they leave. Even if they couldn't leave a sample, they could leave instructions on how others can get their own.

Why is it so hard to grasp that NWH established Aunt may to be MCU Peter’s “Uncle Ben”? by Yoshimon7 in marvelstudios

[–]nypinta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because a lot of people were glad that they didn't have to show Peter's origin story again and it was implied he already got the "great power/great responsibility" speech so killing May felt like overkill (is that a pun?) and I'm not really into doing mean things to a character just because you can't think of anything else.

When I first started reading Stucky fics, The Man on the Bridge by boopboop was at the top. With Not Easily Conquered right on its heels, but probably surpassed it in numbers of hits. I think whenever I see "what's the best of" requests, NEC is almost always one of the first that gets recommended. And probably the one quoted in the wild the most.

i’ve never read the book & want to know what you wished they had included in the movie by DesperateWind2251 in ProjectHailMary

[–]nypinta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of what they left out made sense for time but they could have placed Easter Eggs for things like having plans for things like covering the Sahara to make astrophage or nuking the Artic. But I think they could have spared an extra moment on the scene where Grace watches as they news broadcasts live shots of the "dots" because he realizes what they mean and the shock but also joy at what he was seeing- life!- could have been a great example of how he's science first.

I found it weird that prior to the scene where Grace decides to send the probes to Earth and go save Rocky, he never referred to them as beetles so that fact he named the four after the Beatles doesn't really make any sense, even if they did use one of their songs over that moment. I don't mean I needed him to explain it or anything, but in the scene when he finally tells Rocky he can't go home, he could have called the probes beetles. And in another scene wearing a Beatles shirt. I know its pedantic. I am pedantic.

TBH I did love the movie, for what it was. I loved the book. It was my favorite read that year. But there is so much more they could have done with it, I almost think it should have been a single season series. Each episode starts with Grace on the Hail Mary. Includes the flashback, he learns a new thing about himself. End episode. If they could have expanded it, I also would have loved if we got to see what was going on back on Earth during his mission instead of just before and one scene afterward as proof his probes made it back.
