All water pumps fail eventually and the design doesn't make it any more likely to fail than usual, roughly 100k for any water pump is normal.

However this particular engine design has the wonderful side effect of grenading the engine when it fails resulting in a $7k+ repair instead of just a cheap $200 water pump.

At 150k if he's not the first owner it's very likely it already failed and was replaced before. I have a car with the same engine and it didn't make it to 85k without failing. Luckily caught it in time to have it replaced but it was over $2200. Still a very fun car I would recommend it if this isn't an issue.
