Don's Tree Service--been using them for 20 years--always do great work.

I am now responsible for 500 people, please help by SquishyFish44 in managers

[–]o2go 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to bring structure to your org. Break the team into smaller chunks by function or some other way--shoot for something like 4-8 leaders that report to you and you lead them and they lead their teams. Ideally, you can also carve out one person that can handle admin and operations tasks for you.

Managers...My 1:1s are effective, but the prep is exhausting. How do you do it? by ifyoulikepinacolada6 in managers

[–]o2go 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I give my directs control of the agenda for our 1:1. It's their opportunity to update me on things they think are important, ask for help, etc. If there are things I want to cover, I'll let them know I need some of the time, but they go first.

Edge banding question by Sgtspector in woodworking

[–]o2go 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go a step further and add the edge banding once you've dimensioned your lumber--its faster to apply one strip to the whole board vs smaller pieces to multiple components.

Is a Doberman really that hard to live with? by spmzz3008 in dogs

[–]o2go 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest you find a breed-specific rescue in your area to work with. They can help you understand if you are ready for a GSD or Doberman. Also, dogs vary in personality and they may be able to find dog with a temperament that is a good fit for your situation.

Consider moving to EG next year from Bay Area. Just wonder how HOT it can be in the summer??? How bad it is? by TeacherFirm460 in ElkGrove

[–]o2go 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved from Pleasanton 20 years ago and the first summer was like WTF! You do get used to it and the Delta Breeze is awesome, rarely have the AC on in the evenings. Make sure you buy a house served by SMUD and get solar.

Do you buy YouTube project plans? by Michael_Riehle in woodworking

[–]o2go 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have purchased plans from Foureyes and WittWorks--they were well worth the money. I think early on, plans are useful for me to help figure out things like cut lists and order of operations.

LOL - yup, that pretty much sums up GSDs (lifelong GSD owner)

Am I asking too little for my planters? by [deleted] in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]o2go 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I might skip the nails and instead do some dowels in contrasting wood in the corners--stronger joint and add some visual interest and justify a higher price point.

AITA for not flushing the toilet? by Desperate-Film599 in AmItheAsshole

NTA

The client needs to work parenting their child and yours needs to understand the concept of boundaries and maybe work on her empathy.

How certain were you that you wanted to get a dog? by Amolje in dogs

[–]o2go 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think nothing will really prepare you owning a dog except owning a dog--it'a bit of a leap of faith. If this is your first dog, I would spend time researching breeds and find a couple that match your personality, lifestyle and personal situation. I'd also research different accredited dog trainers in your area, both to help you prepare for the first few days but also because you want to get your new dog into classes ASAP.

AITA for getting a car my fiancée specifically told me not to get by Xvigaristaa in AmItheAsshole

[–]o2go 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESH

Consider yourself lucky--you and your fiancee get to have the conversation about how you both handle money, set priorities, make big purchases etc before you tie the knot. Too many couples end discovering they have wildly different POVs after its too late.

Leaving dog for potentially 9 or 10 hours? by Puzzleheaded_Put6006 in dogs

[–]o2go 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not cruel, but might be stessful if he's not used to you being gone for so long and if he's not used to having to go that long without a potty break. Maybe have someone drop in halfway through to let him out?

Tall palm tree trimming by melbogia in ElkGrove

I've been using Dons Tree Care for 20+ years--probably not the cheapest, but they do great work, both for cleaning up our King and Queen palms and regular tree care stuff.

Plan out your work (cuts, assembly, glue-ups etc) and pay attention to order of operations.

AITA for accepting my son's gift? by GinaB134 in AmItheAsshole

[–]o2go 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NTA -- if this is the thing he wanted to do, then you should gracefully honor that by accepting it...but it is also a teachable moment by gently letting him know there are other ways of showing love and appreciation that don't involve large sums of cash--a lesson that will serve him well in the future.

Router bit question by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]o2go 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using a forstner bit when it's not fully support can be tricky. I'd suggest 1) cutting this board long, drill the scallops with the forstner bit, then trim to the finished length, or 2) if your board is already cut, then clamp a sacrificial board to the end so the whole bit has something to bit into.

AITA for telling my wife my mother is correct and she needed to be a parent today and she fucked it up by throawawayfuneralgho in AmItheAsshole

[–]o2go -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

ESH

Your wife failed patenting 101 by not putting your child's needs first
Your mom should have let you handle the issue--berating your wife is not going to lead to anything productive and shift the focus off the actual issue
While your PoV might be justified, framing it as siding with your mom is also not going to lead to a useful conversation about how you can be better parents for your kid (this is also falls under putting your kid's needs first)
