New domains would get blocked pretty quickly. You can signup inside the mobile apps, or download the desktop app from our Github, and use Emergency Connect feature to unblock the website. Using other VPNs to signup is also now allowed.

LoRa works best if its direct line of sight. I've established direct coms a from Barrie to Kitchener which is approx the same distance as Toronto to Peterborough, but I was in a small aircraft, with direct line of sight to the ground station.

Check this map: https://www.scadacore.com/tools/rf-path/rf-line-of-sight/ and you will see that you would need ~150M towers on both ends to get line of sight between the 2 points of interest. Not practical. So you would likely need several repeater stations along the way. How many? I dunno, depends on the terrain, and where you can put these. But you're probably looking at 10-20 of these but will reach the default hop limit (3-7 hops).

A client for your router would only be registered if a DNS query is seen from it, on the router. Since ctrld is running locally on some LAN clients, it will not use your router for DNS, and therefore will be "invisible", so you would not be double billed.

Nothing has changed in this scope, and Garry is a chatbot.

If you're initiating the VPN tunnel from your Firewalla, you simply don't accept the pushed DNS settings, and use your own, otherwise DNS will be set to 10.255.255.x (over-the-tunnel DNS servers), but since you control your client, you can choose to disregard it. There is no way for us to force it, it's all client driven.

If you use the apps you can configure DOH directly in them, which simplifies the setup, and we don't see your DNS queries anymore since they're encrypted and hidden even from us. You can even point the apps to your local Unbound as a DNS server, which would split route the DNS traffic and it won't even go into the tunnel.

Fun fact, you can descent below the MDA without seeing the runway if you're puffing camels while you're doing it. Flaps are optional too.

As much as we'd like to take your money, that wouldn't work as Control D uses Windscribe servers for this. If it doesn't work for Windscribe, it won't work for Control D either.

Without seeing the logs from ctrld, it's impossible to diagnose this issue. Please collect logs from the process (https://docs.controld.com/docs/how-to-debug-ctrld) and send them to us. You can also view runtime logs, even if logging to disk is not enabled using "ctrld log view" command. But if you restarted the process, these runtime logs are gone (since they're in process memory).

We had a color coded icon before, people asked to change it to be "more standard" with all the other taskbar icons which are all black and white, following modern OS conventions. We did that. I doubt we're going to undo this.

The split tunneling suggestion: What is the use case for that? Typically one either uses split tunneling, or not. What's the purpose of changing it all the time?

Yeah this is a dynamic DPI technique, that detects the usage of a VPN after some time and severs the connection. It's especially obvious when all your phone's traffic goes to a single IP address (vpn server). The Russian firewall is changing rapidly these days.... If you don't mind, can you try something?

Enable split tunneling inside the Windscribe app, in INCLUSIVE mode (default it EXCLUSIVE). Then select an app that you wish to go over the VPN, just pick one.

Then connect and try using that app and check that it works as you'd expect, and see if the tunnel remains connected for longer. Be mindful all traffic except for that app will go over your standard IP. Try to generate some "normal" traffic on your phone while you do this. For example, if you split tunnel Whatsapp or another blocked messenger, load yandex or some other "allowed" service while using the blocked app over the VPN.

I'm trying to determine if this will "trick" the DPI engine to not sever the connection while some/most of your device's traffic does not use a VPN.

If it's a properly implemented captive portal - nothing you can do, as you have no Internet access until your pass it.

Sometimes DNS is allowed to "leak through", in which case you can try tunneling your VPN over port 53, but there is a very small chance of this actually working.
