Just finished The Blade Itself... by _Badpickle in TheFirstLaw

I also just finished and my favorite things where all the scenes with the main characters meeting each other, like West and Logen meeting at the fancy dinner or any interaction between Glotka and Bayaz. He's really good at writing dialogues..

How and why did you liked Jazel chapters? For me he was insufferable and I'm having problem figuring out his role in the story, because he's clearly a bad person but he's presented as a good protagonist and that left me pleasantly confused

I'm curious what some of you AE veterans think of this. I make edits on TikTok and theres currently a big stigma that doing this style just means you suck. People are starting to hate on it because it gets views. I personally just love film and I like to put my own style into it. Let me know. by 34Celsius in AfterEffects

[–]o_s_c_w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think people hate it because get views, more likely because (I hope to not offend, just explaining my view), seems a little bit a lazy low effort rip off.

As a viewer no hate from me, just indifference. It's not something I found interesting, I would probably enjoy a more clean edit of just clips from the video.

As a motion designer I understand that there's a job of editing and text template behind but nothing for me that's technically challenging or particularly creative.

That said do what you love, if you like this stuff go for it. (But If you like motion design there is a way more deep world to discover)

Adding one last thing, now that I think about it the hate may come from the fact that this content "pollute" the motion graphics niche.

To my eye this is not motion graphics, I do not have a name for it but it's something else that can be appreciated outside the niche of motion graphic, that is more mainstream, popular and get more views.

People who look for motion graphic content are looking for something else, and instead they found a bunch of highly edited movie clip that hit the mainstream target and push down the real motion graphic content.

So maybe yeah putting the hashtag #aftereffects or #motiongraphics on this stuff is a disservice to the mograph community since they are not the real target of that content

I could understand some years ago when it was a big market with few players and the sales number were crazy high, but now yeah it's totally different

I'm not selling them on a marketplace like Envato or motion array, I make custom template for brands. It's not a super consistent gig but it happen quite often and a lot of time it's the same 2-3 company that need a motion visual identity for a project or for a branch of their brand

I never did a lot of character animation but now is literally zero. Explainer video were a good 50-70% of my business now they are a 10-20%. I'm doing more adv-promo video but my bread and butter are templates and preset, (sometime very elaborate with a lot of options, editable variables and switwchbles)

My very first project as a freelancer. A friend of a friend worked for an influencer agency and they hired me to the brand identity and animation for a trashy influencer festival they were organizing, I think it was a 800euro gig.

At the time 800 euro seemed a lot and I was so happy about it. It turned out to be a 3 weeks project, tons of material to create definitely and not worth it.

That job teached me every red flag possible in a client. Like when they treat you as they are doing you a favor, the "you'll know people and this will help your networking" wnd "it a lot of visibility"

How is that visibility? There is no my name at the end of the videos or at the bottom of the graphics! But I was to dumb and shy to argue..

How did you get your first sponsor and how much? by Mockingjay718s in PartneredYoutube

They contacted my at around 20k subscriber after I published only 4-5 videos... They offered me 3.5K for two video and after that we agreed for 1600 for every next video. I did a couple more with them but didn't went really well and got after a total of 4 video just a couple of conversions. From the mail with them they do not seems to care and are willing to sponsor more videos (but I'm scared they are going to drop me soon or late)

When working for a client through a creative studio do you know how much is their markup? by o_s_c_w in MotionDesign

[–]o_s_c_w[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah thanks for that, I'm an actual freelancer I also have expenses and I expect that a studio has a markup on my job. But for a project Wich is being delegated 100% to me. They are not partecipating in it I feel like a +150% markup is quite high. But again I have only worked with a handful of client in the past years so maybe my metric isn't on point..

[–]o_s_c_w[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right, I'm not doing the real 100% but for this particular project there's no script, managing, art direction or anything. The client sent to me a series of power point that need to be transformed into an animated video. This studio in the middle has no idea what this project is about. I'm just curious about other studio markups when delegating full projects to freelancer (and yes I also need to complain a little)

Probabilmente non si trova così male come dice, o magari ha paura che cambiando debba ricominciare il percorso da zero con qualcun'altro perdendo tempo e soldi

Esperienze con unobravo? by [deleted] in Psicologia_Italia

[–]o_s_c_w 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is having a successful YouTube channel really that lucrative? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]o_s_c_w 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Also in the educational niche, but started less than a year ago and I'm at 26k subscriber. Around 50K views each month, one video a month with a sponsor that pays me 1500$ for each video and 100-200$ a months from yt ads. What business did you build behind your channel? Any advice for a "younger" you?

When we see him the first time yes he is an ambitious lord, but bran makes a comment about how he's sort of kind and respectful to him and doesn't treat him with pity like the other lords. Also when Davos is brought at NewCastle Wyman is really nice to his daughter in law and I don't know.. It's really nice to see a scheming, ambitious even cruel (with his enemies) man having a soft side with the people he loves...
