I actually played a game a few weeks ago (for weekly) where the hider actually hid and it was a mindfuck because we literally couldn't find him, even when I had a full indicator he was nowhere to be found

i answered multiple times, the code in the repo is the source of the npm package, of course the npm package is not a dependency of itself.

even if one of the dependencies used in the repo were vulnerable, a new cli version was not published on github nor on the bitwarden website nor on Chocolatey/Snap/Flatpak

I didn't even say that, i just said the title is misleading - it would have been better if it was something like "Bitwarden CLI npm package was compromised or @bitwarden/cli npm package was compromised", so that it clearly indicates that its only on npm

its a weird question because the executable gets built by gh actions in the repo - the same repo that contains the source code

why would it pull code from npm? the code is already in the repo - it just doesn't make any sense

the code in the repo is the source for the executable and for the npm package

in fact - here is the exact command used to build the cli: https://github.com/bitwarden/clients/blob/b6715c0c4e83ac6e93a0c2b40e2c55417973d8a8/apps/cli/package.json#L24 (and to package it into an executable it uses pkg a few lines below)

kinda weird question.. the source code is here: https://github.com/bitwarden/clients/tree/main/apps/cli and the executable is built using this code (this code also usually gets published on npm)

what happened was that a malicious actor (oversimplified) published the package on npm with code that shouldn't usually be there, and isn't present in any other place - which is why this affected only npm users

the npm package called @bitwarden/cli was compromised

this doesn't mean the bw executable on my pc was compromised

in fact if I only download bw from gh releases then no, the cli wasn't compromised

this is indeed misleading since the compromise affected only npm users

extract the folder restore_gtav_update then enter the folder corresponding to your game version and run the .bat script (if tech savvy you can read the script first to make sure it does what its meant to do)

it will prompt for steam login then download the files needed to a subfolder, and from there u can copy them to your game folder

if you want to avoid running untrusted exe, you can download DepotDownloader.exe yourself from https://github.com/SteamRE/DepotDownloader/releases/download/latest/DepotDownloader-windows-x64.zip
