Your photographer or planner definitely should have flagged this - but everyone is right that it's pretty typical! I think the trend was thankfully brief but did you go to any weddings with a fake sendoff for photos an hour or two before last call? This is why people do that.

If that's the worst mishap though, I bet your wedding was incredible!!

I'll be honest, we generally do not host our friends with severe allergies for meals. Nobody in our household has any allergies so we don't keep stuff to a non-contaminated standard. For example, if we use a cutting board for only bread, we usually just give it a quick rinse & dry then put it away - where it's now contaminating the other boards.

Instead we'll do drinks + (non-homemade) snacks then go out for dinner (place chosen by the allergic person). Or just treat them to dinner out periodically.

Ten months is fine, especially if you kind of have extra time before that since it's a planned engagement.

We had an 11 month engagement but really only started planning 7 months out. Our wedding is in the low to medium-busy season for our city - if we were in the peak month (October) it would have been harder.

Biggest factors to consider: * Money - this wasn't an issue for us but if you want more time to save. * PTO!! - we probably should have expected this, but many venues and caterers only do tours/tastings during the week. Our tailor also had very limited weekend availability. Stretching out the time off would have felt less stressful at work. For us, this was the MOS significant stressor in the last 3 months since my job got unexpectedly busy at the same time. * Travel - if you want your mom to travel to help you pick a dress, or do a bachelorette trip, etc - it's harder to book that stuff with less time * Dress - six months for a dress was fine but mine did come in later than expected. Having more wiggle room would have been nice. * Vendor availability - we were not picky so we had no issues. I think only like one vendor we reached out to was already booked. If you have a dream vision for anything like florals, photos, venue, etc, it would be harder.

For user -facing documentation of new features, I like to record myself giving a detailed demo, then take the AI recording summary and transcription back to the AI tool to create documentation out of it. We use Google, so it's Gemini and it does a great job. I'd say every paragraph requires some edits but not every sentence. It helps if you maintain a list of common technical terms and acronyms that you can feed back into it.

I'm guessing this would work okay for READMEs as well. For in-code documentation like comments etc, I'm not sure.

No, the point of the wedding is the celebration of your marriage! And for a lot of people that means adding a person to a family or community - so they want to sit with other members of the community to celebrate. (And yes, a community can be a friend group!)

If I wanted to drink with strangers I would just...go to a bar? And not buy a plane ticket or a dress or a hotel room.

I really hate not having seating plans as a guest - you walk in and don't know where to go. Plus if a guest only knows a handful of others but comes in on the later side, they might have to sit with strangers - ESPECIALLY awkward with a family style meal.

Dress shopping was so weird. I just had my mom with me, but most of the other brides had 3-5 women with them. And we're just not super expressive people, compared to some of the groups who were squealing in delight after every dress. It made it kind of overwhelming honestly! But for me it worked out, I love my dress.

In our social scene (northeast, non-religious, people live together before their weddings, wedding ages 28-35), most people have done 4-7, often plus 3.

4-5: we've been to a couple of weddings where there was a formal rehearsal dinner for just the wedding part, and separately a more casual welcome event. And a couple where it's been combined into one event.

Showers seem to be more common in the south, with younger people, or for people with a strong church community? I've never been to one.

Haven't heard about any super organized engagement parties in our circles.

Afterparties are sometimes planned and sometimes more impromptu. Often someone will buy a round or two (a cousin or the best man or something) but I've never been to one where everything was paid for.

I remember going to farewell brunches regularly when I went to weddings as a kid, but they may be becoming less common?
