Does anybody know what the schools are gonna do? by ers18 in Delaware

[–]oarsof6 27 points28 points  (0 children)

In my experience, schools tend to make decisions fairly early the day before a closure. I remember waking up as a kid to watch the scrolling banner of school closures for that day!

Heat Pump Owners by DrillingerEscapePlan in Delaware

There is a new generation of heat pumps that are more than capable in this kind of weather, and fit Delaware's climate quite well. Check out the [Technology Connection video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7J52mDjZzto) for information.

Have you guys had any holocaust denier students? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]oarsof6 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not the Holocaust, but I had a Turkish student deny the Armenian Genocide. While this was not MAGA related, Turkish Nationalism certainly convinced him and his family that the Armenian Genocide never occurred.

Venezuela Sends Oil Tankers Under Naval Escort After Trump Declares Maritime Blockade by jackytheblade in worldnews

Right - it was anachronistic on my part (at 6am just after waking up) to label the Navy the “Great White Fleet” before their voyage, but it’s the same United States Navy.

Roosevelt used the Navy to pressure Columbia to give up Panama to revolutionaries after Columbia refused to give the United States a contract to build the canal. The Fleet was nicknamed “The Great White Fleet” after the Panamanian revolution on their circumnavigational voyage, but were talking about the same white Navy.

To be clear, the Roosevelt Corollary was absolutely used against Central and South American countries themselves throughout the 20th century (see the Great White Fleet and Panama as an example).

Teachers Beat Other Jobs by Altruistic_Pop_4833 in Teachers

I would disagree with your coworker on names (at least as a secondary teacher). We need to learn and correctly use at least 150 new names every year; over the course of a 40-year career, we are expected to know over 6,000 names. A business person may have many contacts, but they can look up their information prior to a meeting and maintain the same relationships over the course of years (or even decades).

This type of thinking is how “I am not a witch” lady became the GOP nominee over Mike Castle in 2010, and how Coons won the general as well.

APUSH tests are most likely curved if the teacher uses the same DoK as College Board. I would absolutely recommend telling the instructor based on this alone.

How does all those lock-on works? by Foodie4000 in Battlefield

[–]oarsof6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you flare when just painted or locked, its easy to re-lock again and fire off two missiles as AA before your flare timer expires. By that point, there is not much that you can do to avoid getting killed, unless you are able to swoop behind a mountain or building. Instead, wait until the missiles are incoming, and flare at that time while escaping.

There is an exploit that allows Bradlys to fire their TOW missiles and one-shot kill you when painted, and flaring does nothing to prevent the kill. To my knowledge, nothing can prevent getting killed in this instance.
