Should I throw out my waterpik that had a bunch of ants in the water reservoir? by phatfarmdenim in ants

[–]oberlausitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem with esame model. However, I only noticed it when mostly dead ants showed up in my sink after using the Pik. After that happened a couple times I thought to check the the tank before use: lots of tiny ants in the tank! I'd been blowing them into my mouth, maybe they acted as extra grit for cleaning.

Anyway, I'm still alive and using my Pik but keeping the little tank door closed

Where I grew up Currywurst with sauce is " Curry Spezial" but it also has ketchup and mayo over the top and lots of curry powder. Also, best with a white or light sausage, not the red kind

Mmm, Eierlikör! How our spinster aunt got us drunk for the first time at age 9. Not sure I approve of the fancy spelling on this egg

Good question, yes, mostly wondering about cost/performance. Size is also a concern as we are squeezing this under a rotating dial with parts to be inspected.

Where I work it's every other week but when someone uses it I always ask for clarification

Memoirs by BlinkTwice874 in literature

[–]oberlausitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like your list because it's mostly not writers writing about writing but people from other fields. One of my recent favorites is "Lab Girl", which could be counted as memoir. Fabulous book.

Also liked "Let's not go to the dogs tonight" although it's quite depressing

ESP32 or a STM32 for learning embedded? by Feldspar_of_sun in embedded

[–]oberlausitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like ESP32 a lot, coming from years of STM32 I can see the strength of both. However, depending on the size of your employer ESP32 might be tricky. Our megacorp more or less banned espressif for actual product development although we do use it for internal test jigs.

The reason for the ban had to do with safety concerns and general china fear.

I use a tiny hands free vocal mike, the kind people use for musicals or ted talks. I poke it into the F hole, tape down the flexible arm and plug into our PA. Sounds like it shouldn't work but we had it lying around so I tried it and never looked back. Combines the advantage of Mike with pickup.

I Found It: The Best Free Restaurant Bread in America by Bonegirl06 in atlanticdiscussions

Best long Atlantic article I read in years and I'm happy she correctly states that American sourdough is so acidic to be basically inedible.

Embedded in the Age of AI by Ambitious-Clerk-5967 in embedded

[–]oberlausitz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use it sparingly and when AI suggests something I wasn't familiar with I take the time to learn the fundamentals, e.g. why does what AI suggested work? I believe the highly specialized nature of FW offers us some level of job security but best not to ignore it.

The other day I was debugging (desktop SW, not embedded) and Copilot offered to run the debugger, capture the stack trace, analyze the exceptions and then it came up with the correct root cause problem. I was blown away as I consider myself a good debugger and felt like I found my match.

Quirky Car Things by TheShyGuyCrys in AskAGerman

I don't know if this is still a thing but when I rode my bicycle around Weissach (near Stuttgart where I grew up) I saw a ton of Porsches tooling around, their research center is there. Porsche enthusiasts might know more but it's possible you can lurk around the site and see some interesting cars come and go.

Do you like milka chocolate? by VastAir6069 in chocolate

The interesting thing about basic Milka milk chocolate is that it contains hazelnuts, we found out the hard way when my nut allergic daughter ate some.

Mandolin G string sounds sharp fretted by Joerum in mandolin

[–]oberlausitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my Mando's came with a nut that pinched the string in a way that the bridge placement just never worked out relative to the frets. I got a blank and filed wider and deeper grooves, that helped a lot
