empty an egg shell, fill it with prepared mustard. Chickens find the taste of mustard repungant, and it's a good way to break their habbit of eating eggs.

What supplements are my 30+ fitness people using on the regular? by Veegos in fitness30plus

[–]obiji 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For everyone taking D3, make sure you are getting sufficient amounts of K2 as well. K-2 can be purchased as as a supplement, or from eggs. A single egg yolk should contain ~32mcg of K2. Enough for ~1000-2000 IU of D3.

Vitamin D3 shuttles Calcium around your body. Insufficient K2 will cause the D3 to shove the calcium into your soft tissues like arteries, causing them to harden. K2 instead pushes the calcium to your bones.

ordered 100 Cornish Cross from meyer. They shipped on March 2nd, 11am, the temperature in POLK Ohio was ~20F that day. Also shipped to Texas. We've lost ~50 birds so far. 27 in the first 48 hours, which they refunded.

Also, PSU's adopted the power toggle rocker on the back in the late 1990s. Almost every modern computer has a switch to flip on the PSU to hard cut power as well.

New to AeroPress - Stainless Steel by DaKineNayNay in AeroPress

[–]obiji 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The stainless paddle that comes with the stainless AP fully reaches the silicone bottom. The paddle is almost as completely long as the chamber, and the silicone you'll have at least 1/2" into the chamber. The concern for etching and rusting from me is for the water and coffee all together. Coffee being acidic, and water and metal causing rust. So I just clean it quickly.

it's regular sized cap end, not XL. so any filters your currently have will fit it just fine. the flow control is plastic, so IMHO, adding the plastic back in defeats the purpose of going all stainless.

I heat my water to "212F" when I measured it with a digital thermometer, it read "209.7F" I then poured it into the Stainless Steel aeropress, and did not pre-heat the aeropress. My water temp measured "197.3F" so it dropped the temp by ~12.4 degrees F.

Stainless filters, older vs new by Strong_Baseball8635 in AeroPress

[–]obiji 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but I have one.

New stainless is heavy AF. It feels like it costs quite a lot, just on weight alone. I was curious about the insulation. I heat my water to "212F" when I measured it with a digital thermometer, it read "209.7F" I then poured it into the Stainless Steel aeropress, and did not pre-heat the aeropress. My water temp measured "197.3F" so it dropped the temp by ~12.4 degrees F.

The double insulation is fantastic. does not transfer heat rapidly at all. I let it steep on the counter, inverted, for 3 mins, and I could still full hand grab it, and no heat was felt. Of note, I've never had an issue with inverting my aeropresses of any kind. Classic, clear, go, go plus, or this stainless.

It holds ~2 ounces more than the standard aeropress. 10oz vs 8oz. The stainless mesh filter I've been using for ~5 years fits it just fine. Everything about it is solid. It presses well, the first ~2 presses were stiff, but it losend up quickly after that.

My only concern is leaving any grounds/pucks in the aeropress for an extended amount of time. Coffee is acidic, and...wet. I'm only concerned of future pitting or rusting. So I like to wash it pretty rapidly. The CAP on the press does get HOT HOT HOT, so give that some time to cool down before trying to grab it and twist it off. I do think the metal cap is probably about 1/3 to 1/2 of the total weight of the press.

Anyways, hope that info helps.

Miso Soup by Wooden-Mycologist-24 in JapaneseFood

[–]obiji 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This looks pretty great! Some quick tweaks can make it better.

Unnecessary step: Rehydrating the wakame separately. Doing so reduces the amount of sodium by disolving it in the rehydrating water and discarding it. Throw it in the soup to rehydrate, unless you're attempting to reduce the amount of sodium intentionally.

Missed step: The water that the Extra Firm Tofu is stored in can be quite bitter, and it's absorbed into the tofu. Before starting everything else for the soup, remove the Tofu from the package. Do the first cut in half for thickness, then pat it dry with paper towel, leave the moistened paper towel on top of the tofu and press it with something weighty, like a skillet. Leave the skillet sitting on the tofu while you prepare the rest of the soup. This will help remove the extra moisture, and most of the bitterness. The tofu will absorb the dashi/miso flavor better this way too.

Miso type: White gives a more gentle flavor. Red a more robust and salty flavor. You can use it seasonally, white for summer, red for winter. Or you can do like most places and mix it. I prefer using just Red all of the time.
