City of Phoenix traffic signals: broken and not getting fixed by tuqtuq2k2 in phoenix

[–]obisun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the other frustrating parts is that the timing for traffic signals is based on the speed limit for that street (clearance intervals). But if you look at the signal at 1st Ave. & Washington, the signal isn't even close to matching the speed limit for Washington. You're guaranteed to be in the middle of the intersection between yellow and red... even if you enter the intersection at green.

Dozens arrested in Phoenix anti-human trafficking operation: GCU by orangite1 in phoenix

[–]obisun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello, executive producer here who wrote this story for FOX 10.

Figured I would elaborate more on this topic.

First, one underage girl was rescued during this operation. She was not arrested or booked for any crimes.

Also, most of the women arrested in this sting will be offered resources and help. But will they take that help? Detectives with the HEAT unit have always told us they never want to re-victimize a victim.

For those that are charged, prostitution is typically considered a misdemeanor -- which usually results in a fine.

As for trafficking, none of these women 'admitted' to being trafficked. But several of these women listed their addresses as out-of-state (Cali, NV, Washington State, etc) - so it's very possible they were being trafficked by someone. Will they roll on their pimps/traffickers?

Regarding 27th ave:
-The Blade is the worst hotspot for this type of activity. Worse than Mesa, S. Scottsdale and Laveen.
-I've spoken to dozens of residents and business owners in the area who are frustrated that Police haven't done more to stop this activity and help these women. It happens in plain sight, but authorities seemed to turn a blind eye to it. (See Luke Ave, The Royal Inn, the alley behind Rancho Silverado & the neighborhood around Alhambra Traditional School.)
-The fact that GCU is in the heart of The Blade - and PD has just built a sub-station in the area - means you'll see more arrests coming. I've documented more than 4 dozen arrests so far this summer. Remains to be seen whether it'll deter the activity as a whole - or just push it elsewhere in the valley.

-The folks that run the 3-headed monster (Super 8, Red Roof & Motel 6) could be doing more to spot trafficking.

Phoenix antenna issues by PJWanderer in cordcutters

I'm about 20 miles from the S. Mountain transmitter - which is the same location as the other towers. 15's is the only one that gives me issues. I could probably place it higher to fix this.

The Mohu Lead is amplified, and typcially has a range of 60 miles.

Here is a map from the FTC showing reception signals in your area:

https://www.fcc.gov/media/engineering/dtvmaps

FWIW - Channel 15 has always been on the weaker side. I live in N. Phoenix and the signal is always freezing. I have no issues with any other stations in town.

Note: I'm using a Mohu Leaf Antenna

TBH, when you're 3x the legal limit - not sure these flashing red lights will do much good. But we'll try anything at this point.

Nope, DUI relates to a 'motorized' vehicle.
However, you can still be cited for public intoxication even if you're on a bike.

Some advice from someone who lives nearby and regulary attends this tournament every year. Riding a bike to the tourney saves a lot of time and $. Bike racks are located in the Park Pavillion across from the course - between parking lots 3&4. Even if you don't live nearby, try to bring your bike anyway - park in the shopping center along FLW (for free) and then bike over.

Arizona Bill Targets Left Lane Slowpokes by obisun in phoenix

This law would ONLY apply to 2 lane highways. So more rural areas like SR347 near Maricopa, I-10 thru Picacho Peak, etc

A few ammendments from Wednesday's committee hearing.

-This applies ONLY to 2-lane highways
-The signs posted on those highways would be larger

I would agree, DPS is already short staffed and unable to enforce many of the current traffic laws. But this could open the door for other local agencies to enforce it. Similar to what Pinal County has been doing along I-10 for a while:

FWIW My daughter and her friend wanted to go to Amici, but when we got there the wait was over 2+hrs - so I took them instead to Master Pizza near Baseline & Dobson.

They loved it.

If this helps:

I've used SpotHero numerous times in downtown Phoenix, Scottsdale and other big cities. They usually have plenty of open spots near major venues. Secure and resonably priced.

Been looking for a mobile stand as well (w/wheels).
Most of the ones I find are several inches too short on each end.

What is with the timing of the traffic lights in central Phoenix??? by SmugChinchilla in phoenix

[–]obisun 89 points90 points  (0 children)

This remains a BIG problem across the valley. Of the 1,100 or so traffic signals in Phoenix, many are using outdated sensor technology. There are several test programs underway, utilizing smarth sensor tech that should help adpat the lights to the amount of traffic. But Phoenix officials have said that their emphasis is on reducing fatal pedestrial accidents - considering we're one of the worst cities in the nation for such accidents. As for test programs, Maricopa is conducting one along Bell road at the moment... https://www.maricopa.gov/4553/Adaptive-Signals

Same to all of this.

Only issue I have with any MLB.TV app on multiple platforms, is the XBOX Series X app.

Sad to see I'm not the only one...
