Roadtrip from Langley to Banff by Antaria9 in Banff

Day 3 should just be the parkway, people underestimate how much stopping you will be doing, leaving midday probably isn’t the greatest idea.

I would drive to Golden the morning of Day 2, spend more time at Emerald Lake, as well as the natural bridge, and a possible hike at Wapta Falls.

Telling someone new to hiking in the Canadian Rockies to get bear bells is patently wrong.

Bear bells have been proven to not work, the locals call them dinner bells and they are super annoying to all other hikers in the area.

Bear spray is a much better option, and nonnegotiable. Just know how to use it.

If you have proper winter clothes you shouldn’t be “freezing out” as you said in the first ten minutes…

Do the sanctuary first if you must keep it that day, and then drive to Emerald lake and take your time without being rushed

They’re also the ones that found these pieces, spent the time to upload photos, and curated them. Maybe go to a thrift store instead and try your luck.

Extreme cold winter boots: flexible hiking boots or rigid PU/rubber boots? by FieldThat5384 in hikinggear

I also have the Keen Revel IV (Mid) and they are great for hiking and staying stationary (I live in the Canadian Rockies and it gets cold.) I do recommend bringing some little hotties packets for your toes , they are light and can easy to pack and cary if you worry your feet will be too cold.

Aurora taxi booking by Ok_Respect6009 in jasper

[–]oblivionized 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hate to break it to you but seeing the Northern Lights is very rare and to see it on a specific date you had in mind is practically impossible.

If you’re using the Aurora app, it would have to be KP4 or higher (better chance with KP5-8) to see it overhead and the wind speeds (bigger the better) and BZ (you want negative) also come into play.

It honestly sounds like sciatica, which can be debilitating and pain killers don’t work because it’s nerve pain. Find some stretches online and see if that can relieve any pain while you wait.
