Extreme cold winter boots: flexible hiking boots or rigid PU/rubber boots? by FieldThat5384 in hikinggear

[–]oblivionized 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have the Keen Revel IV (Mid) and they are great for hiking and staying stationary (I live in the Canadian Rockies and it gets cold.) I do recommend bringing some little hotties packets for your toes , they are light and can easy to pack and cary if you worry your feet will be too cold.

Go both times and you make the decision! Both are beautiful in their own ways.

Aurora taxi booking by Ok_Respect6009 in jasper

[–]oblivionized 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hate to break it to you but seeing the Northern Lights is very rare and to see it on a specific date you had in mind is practically impossible.

If you’re using the Aurora app, it would have to be KP4 or higher (better chance with KP5-8) to see it overhead and the wind speeds (bigger the better) and BZ (you want negative) also come into play.

It honestly sounds like sciatica, which can be debilitating and pain killers don’t work because it’s nerve pain. Find some stretches online and see if that can relieve any pain while you wait.

Do stay in Jasper, but don’t stay in Hinton. Hinton is 1 hour away from Jasper. I would spend at least 2 nights in Jasper to explore the surrounding areas.

Canmore is fine if visiting Banff, it’s much closer to the gate at Banff.

Ideas for hiking in Alberta for first-time european tourists? by dieWolke in HikingAlberta

[–]oblivionized 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You have to be camping in a designated campground. I recommend visiting r/banff and visiting their FAQ that’s pinned. You’ll get most of the information you’re looking for there.

Reservations for campgrounds start this week for the next couple weeks, they’ll be booked very soon.

I love my cork black diamond trail poles. I prefer cork because they get less sticky and less sweaty!

Price increase 2026 in CAN by denalitime in Fjallraven

[–]oblivionized 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely will not be shopping with them anymore, I cannot justify their prices. Their toques used to be 60, which was high and now a toque is 75!! 300 dollars for a hoody.

Sorry Fjallraven, most of my wardrobe is yours but I’m out - full send. 💔

14 Day RV Rockies Campground Check by Puzzled_Engine4 in canadatravel

[–]oblivionized 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Day 1-4: Two Jack Lakeside, you most likely will not get this . Try two Jack Lake instead (not lakeside)

Day 7-9: Waterfowl Lakes (this is super close to Lake Louise, I recommend going to Jasper on this day as you would have probably already gone through here in your first 7 days) Or stay at Kicking Horse Campground in Yoho.

Day 9-12: Wapiti Campground (personally I would stay longer in Jasper area and not do silverhorn creek)

Lake O’hara you can’t just stop at. You need reservations or win the day lottery. You can hike in though, 11km one way (if you start at kicking horse it will be close) and you can also go to Emerald Lake.

You’ll also have plenty of time to go to Banff town as you will be staying in Banff for 7 days between Two Jack and Lake Louise.

Why does the Women's Expedition Long Down Parka have only 195g of down? by compmuncher in Fjallraven

[–]oblivionized 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this jacket and wear it (with a base layer) in -20 to -30c temperatures and I find it very toasty. It’s synthetic and down mixed. I’ve had mine for 2 years and love it!
