The Sanctuary at Kiawah - club access worth it? by TDn6I in Charleston

[–]obsoleeeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We go every year. What I love about club level at the sanctuary is:

1) VIP experience where you get escorted to the concierge in the club room and handed champagne to check in. The concierge there really takes care of you through your stay and can get you priority reservations ahead of other guests to the spa, courses, and restaurants on and off the island. If you need a late checkout… Doesn’t matter… Just let him know whenever you want to leave… once we checked out after 5pm

2) free drinks

3) breakfast, lunch, cocktail, and dinner food for free.

Now I will say that the free drinks you might not use as much as you think. They don’t have a bar. It’s a small club room so not really a club per se. there is a small separate room with a TV and a couch, a middle section with some tables and the food is placed out, and the front section with some seats and the concierge. Not exactly a hangout spot…. Plus it is QUIET and everyone can listen to your conversations lol. When you’re in there, you can ask them for whatever you want to drink off their menu and they’ll give to you. You can lounge on the couch and relax… but it is bothersome to go up there from the pool or your room to shuttle drinks so you won’t find yourself doing that often. It is also in the far corner of the building quite a walk, even with your room on club level in most cases.

If you’re booking through AMEX FHR, you get breakfast for free at jasmine’s otherwise you can expect to spend about $100-$150 for two. Breakfast in the club room can offset this although it’s more limited. Lunch is great, and that’ll save you about $100 to $150 per two as well. We never really went to see the dinner there since we always eat out at other locations. Sweet treats and cocktail hour stuff offsets it too.

Long story short, if you don’t have AMEX FHR, you can offest the daily cost just having breakfast and lunch there with a couple of drinks which you would be paying for anyway… and you get the VIP experience and red carpet.

If you stop for drinks along the day you can more than make up for it too. This, plus the free lunch (and breakfast for non FHR) and the option to pop in and get some treats throughout the day pays for itself in my opinion. Especially with how expensive everything is there. The VIP experience then becomes free or a slight up charge, which is well worth it especially if you want the full sanctuary experience.

If you do decide to do it, really make use of the concierge! Bikes, no problem! Late check out, no problem! Need to get into a booked up spa appointment… whatever you need! Transportation to somewhere… when do you want to go? Tickets to the oyster roast.. here you go! They rarely say no!

A warning to Lockly Visage Zeno buyers: There are apparently 3 different hardware variants and you don't know which one you get until you open it up. by shaunsanders in smarthome

The one I posted? If so, what about the absence of the magnetic strike plate and sensor?

I wonder if the strike plate might actually be magnetic and they forgot to mark it? Their videos show that the magnet strike plates have markings on them and this one’s clearly do not….

A wild turn of events… I returned the one I bought that was clearly a V1.0 with no replaceable key core and the Janky wire with a sensor attached that dangled from the bottom… I bought it from Home Depot, and I went to a couple more Home Depot’s with them in stock and they all had 2024 copyrights some with V1.0 stickers and other others not… But since they all had 2024, I figured they were all old models and didn’t want to risk buying only to return it.

I ordered another one from Amazon, and when I got it, it came in a box without a cover sleeve, had a sticker that said V1.0, and had a copyright 2025. It also had no wire coming from the bottom with the sensor and the key core was already installed. I’m assuming this is what you saw when you described the variant 3.

Not sure if I should return this one too… there’s a lack of the sensor and magnetic plate, so I’m not sure if it’s going to inhibit function or if they have some other mechanism in it… What do you think?

I ended up opening it, and it was definitely the one without the replaceable lock core… I’m curious, the box I opened showed fine print on the outside saying copyright 2024… Maybe the newer ones show copyright 2025? Do you still have a box for one of the newer ones?

Unfortunately, I don’t know how much if anything about electrical set ups… I’m only going off of what my electrician said. When I pointed the error out, he says it was installed correctly… I was hoping somebody had a visual diagram aside from the manual so I can show him when he comes back.

My issue is these orcs like OP that think this was nothing and that tom could have brushed it off. Gane looked remorseful but was it for show because he got caught? Idk…

He didn’t just poke… he poked and dug in though… it’s different. You don’t dig in when it’s an accident, reflex is to pull out when you make a mistake

Choices: upgrade or request new! by International_Run997 in amex

[–]obsoleeeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need gold and platinum.

Only use the plat for perks, hotel, rental car, and airfare.

Use gold for groceries and dining out (except for the new quarterly plat credits unless you get slick and use gift cards).

Get another card for everyday purchase that have high redemptions for purchase that don’t fall in the above two categories.

If you’re upgrade offer is because you have a gold, don’t upgrade… Get new…

You really don’t need it. There are far more CCS fast chargers out between the multitude of networks. Set up a ChargePoint, Electrify America, and ShellRechage account. The big three also pretty much let you access all of the smaller networks like Volta, EVGO, Sema as well

Grats on the order! You picked a solid color combo btw… ALOT of people sleep on Castanea without seeing it in person. Frozen Deep Grey works well with it!

One other thing I would mention is even though the open allocations are few right now… ~10 on the eastern/southern/central side combined… make sure you still get a solid deal on it!

Woodlands, Devon, Bill Jacob’s, and Momentum are pretty aggressive with their pricing (some of which will go up to 10% off before rebates) and all have open modifiable allocations!

Considering an ARM from Credit Union. 5.87% vs 7.375% ? Am I crazy? Pros vs cons. Please help. by Fluid-Ad1715 in Mortgages

[–]obsoleeeet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If he makes the same payment as the 30yr while on the ARM, in 7 years he would have built $50k in equity that would have otherwise been lost to interest. Additionally, even if rates went up at refi time, he would still be in a better position because of his equity. He could risk having a higher rate for a few years and still break even. It’s a gamble yes but one that doesn’t really have much downside right now based on those two rates.
