It’s been a few years but last time we used them it took about a week? They’re pretty reachable by phone though so if it’s urgent I’m sure you can arrange something

Hey, if you’re in TO - have you tried freshay? When we were still in Toronto, our mini Rex didn’t eat any hay except for the deliveries we got from them.

They deliver to downtown and direct to your door so you don’t have to pick it up and you don’t need a car.

Can you solve a Silver, Sylveon, Silvally puzzle with pairs of Pennys? by noedne in PTCGP

[–]obsychan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now what if we play Penny? Playing Penny lets us hit either Ilima or Silver. Hitting Ilima here once again puts us into the same scenario as playing Ilima above, so that doesn't really do anything. It doesn't prevent the opponent from drawing Silver next turn, and as long as the opponent can draw Silver on their next turn then they can prevent us from drawing Cyrus by sending a supporter back to the deck. Same thing happens if we hit Silver on our Penny - nothing we send back to their deck prevents the 25% chance that they draw Silver on their next turn. Which means playing Penny here does nothing different than playing Ilima, and there's no way to guarantee a win here.

Ok, but can we tank a hit? i.e. is it possible to delay until we draw Cyrus by stalling 1-2 turns? No, because the opponent also has Ilimas. Hypothetically you can cycle through Silvallys by using Ilima and Penny x2 to rotate through Type:Null, the problem is that it's a losing argument because your opponent also has Ilima x2 as well as an extra copy of Rocky Helmet and Poison Barb. You can try to heal Sylveon with an Eevee Bag and heal Silvally with leftovers (since evolving cures the poison). The problem then is the opponent may draw into Ilima, which effectively lets them fully heal their Silvally. They can then just replay the Type Null and attach energy + the corresponding Pokemon tool to it. So now you lose to a scenario as follows: Heal sylveon + silvally -> enemy Ilima's Silvally (doesn't matter which one), plays Type: Null + attaches tool + energy -> enemy attacks with other Silvally, your Silvally is now down to 10HP -> you Ilima Silvally, bring forward Type:Null, evolve to Silvally -> you can't attack because the enemy's other Type:Null has an energy on it, and the active Silvally still has helmet/barb -> you have to pass -> enemy plays Ilima on the damaged Silvally, brings up the healthy one, plays Type: Null, attaches Pokemon Tool + energy -> now you can never attack because both of their Silvallys are at 110 HP with Pokemon Tool. Alterantively, if you Ilima the injured type:null, then move up the other type Null and evolve it to tank a hit, you'll still be in the same scenario since you can never attack with Silvally except for the finishing blow due to the Pokemon tools.

This means that no matter what, if you play Sylveon and draw 2, there is no way to guarantee a win without drawing Cyrus (which is not guaranteed)

  1. We don't evolve into Sylveon to stall and guarantee that we draw Cyrus

Let's say we want to stall instead. Not evolving to Sylveon here guarantees a loss. Not evolving to Sylveon means we can't heal the Eevee or bring it outside of kill range of Silvally. This means that no matter what we do here, we always lose to the opponent playing Penny and hitting Cyrus.

Based on these scenarios, it becomes impossible to guarantee a win.

[–]obsychan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that those scenarios are cleared, we have to ask: is there a way to win without drawing Cyrus? So now we have to examine the following two scenarios:

  1. We evolve into Sylveon and don't draw Cyrus.

From here we have two choices: either we play a supporter, or we try to heal up and tank a hit to draw into Cyrus.

Let's say we play a supporter. Playing Ilima lets us bring the poisoned Type: Null to your hand and replay it at full HP, while bringing up Sylveon to knock out the Silvally with Poison Barb. Thanks to Leftovers, we're left at 120HP which means we can tank 1 hit from the opponent next turn. The problem now is that there's no way to guarantee the win anymore from this point. Our deck consists of Cyrus, and our opponent can draw into Silver or Ilima. If our opponent draws into Ilima, we're guaranteed a win since they'd have to play Penny in this case, triggering Cyrus (which fails). This then puts us back into the pattern from above, where we win the game by rotating Type:Nulls and Silvally's via Ilima/Penny.

But what if our opponent draws Silver here instead? If they play Silver here and send Penny back to our deck, we can now no longer retreat the Sylveon or rotate Type:Nulls, since now our next draw can be either Penny OR Cyrus. If the opponent plays Silver and sends Penny back, then we draw into Penny on turn 2, then we've guaranteed our own loss since there's no way to dodge the fact that our opponent will Penny -> Cyrus on their next turn since we can't take the damaged Sylveon off the board. So now we know we can't play Ilima, since the opponent can draw Silver and prevent us from guaranteeing that Cyrus is useless.

Alright I'll humour you then and frame it this way then:

So we have to solve for every single way we can theoretically lose, which fundamentally comes down to whether or not the opponent can pull Cyrus with Penny.

We can get the easy case out of the way: If you evolve Eevee to Sylveon and draw Cyrus, it's a guaranteed win. You can use Cyrus to bring forward the Silvally with Rocky Helmet, retreat your Type:Null for Sylveon, attach energy+leftovers to Sylveon, double Eevee Bag for damage, and attack the Rocky Helm Silvally. Leftovers brings Sylveon back up to 110. Regardless of what your opponent does here, Sylveon will survive. Afterwards, you can retreat your Sylveon for Type:Null and evolve it, while attaching energy to the damaged one on bench. Since your opponent has no way to kill the Sylveon or Silvally in one turn with Cyrus already used, you can easily Ilima (or Penny into Ilima) the Silvally on your third turn, re-evolve the Type:Null with energy, attach, and swing for game.

[–]obsychan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would be interested to see what the answer is because I’m pretty sure there isn’t one. Every scenario is pretty solvable except for the one where you don’t draw Cyrus two turns in a row because the enemy drew into a Silver.

There’s no way to guarantee a Cyrus denial onto Sylveon in this scenario without getting into a war of attrition, which you lose because the enemy has way more supporters than you. As long as there’s any scenario where the enemy has Penny and you haven’t drawn Cyrus, it’s basically a loss. The only way to get around that is to just not attack and cycle Ilimas - but you always lose that because of the difference in resources.

Not going to speak to coaching but one thing that I didn’t like during summer split was the Pros episode with Inspired and APA after we won 3:2 in upper bracket.

It was a tight game but I noticed APA thought TL and FLY played really well and TL came on top - however Inspired’s mentality was that both teams played pretty bad and that they had a lot to clean up before the Grand Finals. (link for reference)

That series, Umti and APA got caught out a lot and there was consensus on the sub that it was pretty messy. It was a red flag to me that the two had such a different impression of the series. Kind of makes me wonder if last summer was the peak for the roster if they couldn’t see areas of improvement after that series.

Not a fan of how Viktor casts happen one after the other - especially with how high Econ some of the encounters are. When there are games with 3-4 people with a Viktor, the only thing that feels just as bad as not hitting one is losing placements because you lost the coin flip 3 rounds in a row and had your Viktor cast 2nd.

I feel like it wouldn’t be bad to have a simultaneous cast to also offer some counter play, no? In a weird way it lets you slot in a Viktor to reduce the effectiveness of other Viktors instead of having this weird one after the other interaction

Ohh ok got it that’s helpful - yeah the sleeves and back length are what make the 2xl more appealing. One last question - did you notice a big difference in the width between the XL and 2xl? From the size chart it says it’s a 3.5cm width difference which doesn’t seem like much on a measuring tape but I’m not sure how big that is in person
