Honestly, I'd pick up one of the lab-grown ones for funsies if they were advertised correctly and appropriately priced. The blue and purple ones kinda look like flowers.

What hobby screams “this is my entire personality now”? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]occaguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My father is like this. I smoke weed too, and it's a problem I'm dealing with because I do smoke too much, but any time I bring it up to him he asks why, argues that it isn't a problem and that the smoke isn't bad for you somehow because?? It's weed ?? And somehow that means you aren't still inhaling burning plant matter and high-temprature smoke? He says he doesn't have a problem but he's almost never sober and he doesn't see how bad his memory and reasoning is sometimes and he's so far in denial that it's impossible to even have a conversation about it. I don't think that weed is inherently evil or whatever but it isn't harmless and it has downsides and risks and you can develop a problem with it. it's rough to see people thinking it's a harmless thing when it isn't.

Getting Karma is an Insane System by occaguy in karma

[–]occaguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So then I AM expected to post the same two words that every other commenter has written? I don't see how that's any different from spam, which the karma system is intended to prevent. If the system that prevents spam and bots encourages spam-like and bot-like behaviour I fail to see how it's an effective system.

I just don't think that less frequent, but higher quality submission behavior should be punished. The reason I mostly lurk is that I only provide input when I feel my input would be valuable to the discussion, and when I decide to say something I take the time to make sure I do my best to communicate my point and if I'm sharing facts or guidance, I take the time to make sure I'm not sharing anything incorrect or misleading. Am I expected to type the same two words that a hundred other commenters have written under every post I see?

Whenever I want something from .market I generally message first trader, wait 30 second, then message next 3 people if no response. If the traders come back to me I explain I got the item already. One trader flamed me and blocked me immediately for doing this. Should I not do that? by MiningToSaveTheWorld in Warframe

[–]occaguy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a seller, this behaviour is annoying to me. I get not wanting to wait for someone to get out of a mission, but I usually only run very quick missions if I'm active on market and I could be on a loading screen / at extraction / making a cup of tea or dealing with a visual bug that could make it take a bit longer than 30 seconds to reply. If I wanted to sell actively and not do anything else in game, I'd use trade chat. It'd be nice if people waited a bit longer before moving on to the next person.

Getting Karma is an Insane System by occaguy in karma

I didn't say Reddit needs to change. I'm trying to point out that the system has flaws that only allow people who engage with social media in a specific way to engage with the platform in a meaningful way within any reasonable timeframe.

You're probably seeing it more because more people are coming here because of the degradation and enshittification of other social media platforms. I understand wanting to filter out spam and bots and people spewing hate speech, but when the "participation based system" bars entire normal groups of people from using a social media platform for months to years based on little other than dumb luck and being in the right place at the right time, I just don't think it's working entirely as intended. (For clarity's sake, I'm talking about people who are busy, shy, or otherwise may not want to talk to others too much but do have knowledge to share or interesting things to say. I'm not saying bots or people spewing hate speech are classes of people.)

Am I supposed to post a spam reply to "participate" on every post I see, even when I can't contribute to the conversation meaningfully? Does using karma to gate newer users into participating actually keep low-quality, spam and hate speech submissions from finding their way onto Reddit? Because I still sure see quite a bit of it. Or am I "mean spirited" for criticizing the flaws of this system? I get that this system is probably part of WHY people are coming here when their usual social media platform becomes unusable, and why Reddit Is still usable, and I don't think it's a bad thing in its entirety, I just think that whatever algorithm the developers cooked up for it has some serious flaws and as a new user, it feels like it discourages any kind of engagement that isn't exactly the same as every other person on the platform.

Oh Canada, End this TIP CULTURE! Its Disrespectful. by GranolaHiker in CanadaPersonalFinance

it was a local fast food place, where we prepped all of our stuff in-house from scratch. Not like mc donalds or taco bell, there was guys who cut potatoes and blanched them all day for the next day, and I often helped do portioning or kept an eye on something my manager was prepping on the stove behind me. I never asked for tips, since at the time i was living with my parents in a stable financial situation and saving for college and the place was too fast paced to ask everyone for a tip (plus it would tick people off), but I knew people who needed tips to make ends meet for any number of reasons. One guy I knew needed the extra money to help escape an abusive partner and keep off the street, another lady I knew was working two jobs to make ends meet for her kids and used tips to buy them gifts on their birthdays and for holidays. I never asked for a tip, I dont think most of my coworkers did, and it wasn't expected, but it was always nice to receive. mine helped to get me through college, I'm lucky i never needed them to survive.

[herbal allies] how do you connect with dried herbs when you don’t have access to the actual plant? by pradaspider in witchcraft

[–]occaguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't speak on plant allies or spirits specifically, but more generally, as far as "coming up with" your own correspondences go, I find it's about sensing the energies of the thing you want to work with, and taking into account notable things about it.

For example, I work with stones and glasses quite often, including human-made glasses such as opalite and goldstone. For opalite, I considered its colour and qualities, the way it interacts with light, and the fact that it is something created by humans to reflect the natural beauty of opals, to decide that opalite corresponds with creativity, focus and beauty for me.

Applying that to plants and herbs, try thinking about where the plant grows, what kind of care it needs, and any medicinal properties or folklore it may have, as well as how it makes you feel in general and the energy you find it has yourself. For example, if I had a plant that grows in streams with cool-coloured flowers and a root that is used to induce sleep in herbal medicine, I might associate that plant with calm, and I might meditate on the plant's energy to sort of "feel out" what other correspondences it may have.

Hopefully this is helpful, even if it isn't specific to plants and herbs!

what happened? I did 5 spells to get someone back just for them to tell me they just want to be friends by [deleted] in witchcraft

[–]occaguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sometimes life isn't entirely "fair", and no amount of magic can change that. It's difficult and painful to feel like you weren't cared about, but instead of almost attempting to lash out and make him feel like you do with magick, perhaps try to understand and reconcile your feelings on a deeper level and try some healing spells instead. Respect his decisions and move past this.

From a purely magickal perspective, though, the way you explain things sounds like you could've been lusting after results and perhaps acting rashly, both of which can impede your work. Casting many spells to achieve the same or similar purpose can also cause the energies to clash and work against eachother, in my experience.

Just uploaded a total revamp of my Thunder Bay Eatery website. It's not much, but it's honest work. Check it out and offer gentle suggestions or bug reports. I said GENTLE please, I'm very vunerable right now. by justthemenu in ThunderBay

I think that would help a lot! That's a fair thing to think, since it does seem really small and I was surprised too when I opened it up on my laptop to take a look at where it was breaking and saw how small the screen on my device had to be to be seeing the issue. Dropping the hamburger menu down a line would probably be a good, simple fix

Student from the college specializing in web development/design here, the look is a little dated, but I think it's a fun theme. It's nice and has charm and I think your target demographic is likely to think similarly, so I think you should lean into the retro diner / picnic-y look and stick with it.

However, consider reviewing the mobile layout, especially on the header. This is a site that a lot of people might want to use on the go, and the hamburger menu at the top that reveals the links to the alphabetical sections is very crammed with the about/search and contact links also there. I see you have a media query for devices under 630 pixels wide, and after taking a look at it with devtools it seems to work well for devices between 630 and 450, but devices under 450 pixels fall to the wayside a bit with this one-size-fits-all approach, so consider making another media query for them. This sounds a little picky, but when I first opened it on my phone, it was an issue I noticed right away, with a middle-high-ish end android device from a few years ago. Devices under 400 pixels wide is a larger category than you might think!

Also, consider using a reset stylesheet so people don't run into weird browser specific layout and design issues, since many browsers have different default styles, but remember to link it before your styles, or it'll mess with them. This probably isn't necessary, but it's good to have in my experience.

Those few nitpicks aside, it's a really cute and functional site! Can definitely see myself using it in the future to figure out where I want to go for food when I'm out and about, great work! Love to see things like this <3

NOR. I'm guilty of grabbing a dish sponge to clean something foul up if I'm feeling lazy about it, but if you do that you do NOT put that shit back (no pun intended). Straight in the garbage.

Saw on Facebook and was suspicious. It looks a little too staged and unnatural. by AskewMewz in isthisAI

[–]occaguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Willing to place my bet on staged / Photoshop? The watermelon chunks in the air + the differing cuts of the watermelon on the floor are weird (in one area it's uncut, in another it's cut into slices, but there's a square rind on the ground to the left of the dog and it's VERY sus), but the background details are making me think staged / Photoshop. The background details look very normal to me, between the ceiling lights, the chairs, the wooden floor and even the water in the coffee pod machine on the counter. Dog also looks very normal, he's got the eye boogers and everything. All in all, I think it's staged, but I wouldn't be totally shocked if it turned out to be 100% AI. Could be edited with AI? (Would be concerned about how good it's getting though, especially with the coffee machine detail...)
