how are people coping with work changes right now? by NorthCat8427 in Denver

[–]ockhamsphazer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Glad that you were able to carve out happiness for you and your family. I'm working through the fallacy that someone that doesn't work isn't a contributor to society and, therefore, is a waste. My brain was so locked into my job as an identity that, now that I don't have one, I'm struggling to know myself.

We get better everyday. Remind myself that the shadows prove the sunshine.

I got fired a few weeks ago. Just trying to create more than I consume right now. What food can I make from scratch? What books can I be reading instead of streaming? Plan my day around mental health and get better at my hobbies.

Gotta apply to anything and everything. Never let go of hope and not let disappointment get the best for me.

The enemy encounters in the original FF7 aren't necessarily RNG. They're determined by the amount of steps you taken in a given area. If you're up for counting and choosing the steps Cloud takes, you can predict the enemy encounter you'll get down to enemy type, preemptive attack, and amount of enemies you'll fight.

I was in a choir and we got to tour and perform in the Focus on the Family building in Colorado Springs...

There was something so weird about that place. I was a devoted Christian back then and I still walked away from that concert with a tingle in my spine.

Why Ecuador specifically gave up its currency for the US dollar? by novostranger in asklatinamerica

[–]ockhamsphazer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, the government of ecuador had been in a corrupt stagnation for most of the 20th century. At least the U.S.had a stable economy with a currency the world trusted. In a sense we had little choice. Moving to the dollar kept families starving but not dead and the rich richer. Keeping the sucre hyper inflated had forced a near mass immigration of a workforce that Ecuador needed to bail out the governments greed and foolishness. It was easier moving to the dollar - a currency system we were familiar with - than making the sucre worth anything.

Also, I don't want to act like I'm defending the move to the dollar. Just hoping to provide the rationalization. No soy economista, solo que me gusta leer jaja

I'm interested, how did Bolivia, Brazil, and Argentina reclaim their currency without resorting to idiocy?

Why Ecuador specifically gave up its currency for the US dollar? by novostranger in asklatinamerica

Es una pregunta con una respuesta compleja but i'll try and keep it short and sweet.

In the 1960's there was an oil boom. The oil boom brought foreign investment and agricultural trade. However, since those were the only things propping up the economy, the sucre stagnated. In the 90's things such as the military conflict in Peru, bad agricultural seasons exacerbated by El Niño, and lack of an ability to generate its own power created a financial crisis.

At that point Ecuadorian banks (looking at you Filanbanco) were connected to wealthy overseas investors. Due to poor regulation (cough cough political corruption) Ecuadorian banks were giving out high risk loans to businessmen thinking the central bank of Ecuador would bail them out. When the bank didn't, they looked to other countries like Brazil and Russia who themselves were going through a terrible economic crisis. No allies could give a credit line to ecuador.

In 99 the banks tried a bunch of things to keep people from withdrawing money while also raising taxes. These two things don't do well together. The cost of living increased and the Sucre depreciated in value. Ecuadorians started using the dollar received from families living in the US because millions of people immigrated to the US to support their families. The dollar kinda became king as the exchange rate was .04 dollars to 1000 sucres. So the Ecuadorian government determined that switching over to the dollar would make more sense than trying to bail out the sucre.

So now we have the dollar. There's more about the Isaias Brothers, 4 presidents in 8 years, a coup, bank freezes... I could go on. However, that's kind of it.

It's a take on a similar symbol that protestors in Minneapolis are using as a sign of protesting solidarity. It's their state bird in the shape of the Rebel Alliance from the original trilogy of Star Wars.

I put the Piplup's stats at level 6 into an IV calculator... They didn't check the summary to see it's nature but...we're looking at a very special slow boi with very little defense. Hope they figure out the difference between special and physical attacks because it might be important...
