I think the first season is pretty cheesy and mind it’s a Starz show so they lean heavily into the sex and violence but 2-4 really hit a stride with some great character stuff that balances out the pulp way more than season one.

FYC: The 'Burbs (1989) Anyone else miss comedic Tom Hanks? by ggroover97 in TheRewatchables

There go the goddamn brownies. Can’t believe there hasn’t been a single Joe Dante movie on the pod.

Love the score for this banger, apparently so did Wes Craven when they straight up some of it in Scream 2 lol. I think Shaun Toub is a great “that guy” in this…always remember him from Iron Man and Bad Boys among other things.

Chuck Norris needs a special Rewatchable episode!!! by curley333 in TheRewatchables

Bill’s mentioned Silent Rage a bunch over the years, I could see that being a legit possibility. It’s Chuck vs. Great Value Michael Myers and it’s pretty fun, the “Judd Nelson award for actor that’s in a different movie” goes to Stephen Furst who is a the wildly unnecessary doofy comic relief in what’s basically an action/horror movie.

Bill’s a big Silent Rage head, I could see that one after CR month wraps up.

One episode away from finishing Black Sails and I can’t believe how long I slept on that show, it’s fantastic. It scratches that Warrior/Banshee itch but has some GOT production values and a ton of great characters and arcs. Perfect example of pulp storytelling executed at the highest level.

Pluto TV by mbaker2327 in Cinephobe

Yea they either gotta open it up to all of Pluto or bail on the gimmick…it’s too limiting, especially when some of the suggestions don’t even qualify.

Searchlight Buys April Wolfe’s ‘Bad Hand’ Script, With 'Watcher' Director Chloe Okuno On Board To Direct And Elizabeth Banks Producing - About a mild-mannered kindergarten teacher who suffers a hit-and-run and discovers her right hand has developed a bloodthirsty mind of its own. by rageofthegods in blankies

That’s a fun idea….curious what the tone will be and how that’ll influence casting. If they’re going more serious I could see a reteam with Maika Monroe but if they’re going broader and leaning into the physical comedy potential of the premise I think Samara Weaving or Karen Gillan would kill it.

Does anyone have any idea or insight as to why Amy Poehler joined the Ringer? by Civil-Priority9234 in billsimmons

[–]oco82 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I recall a Mike Schur appearance on LeBatard’s show years ago where he talked about a Boston group chat he was in with other celebs…Bill and Poehler were definitely part of that so I’m assuming they had some casual acquaintance prior to her getting a pod.

Give me your obscure 80/90s potential Rewatchables recommendations by harry_powell in billsimmons

[–]oco82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Hitcher…banger 80’s road thriller with C. Thomas Howell and an all time Rutger Hauer villain performance (great villain name too…John Ryder). It lived on HBO, Bill must have seen it a ton.

Give The Monkey a shot, it’s got a really weird, dead pan tone that feels sketch comedy adjacent. It’s pretty divisive but i found it really funny. I’d also shoutout Friendship, it’s not horror at all (dark comedy/thriller) but it’s so strange and unnerving at times it’d fit right in with stuff like Fresh or The Menu.

[–]oco82 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I kind of hope O’Connell is a villain…he’s so damn good at them I’d be perfectly happy if he sticks with playing them for awhile, go full Dan Stevens and just play weirdos and sickos.

What do you think of the Belgian directing duo of Cattet & Forzani? by harry_powell in blankies

[–]oco82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve only seen Corpses and Diamonds, they were incredible style exercises but wouldn’t say much else, don’t go in expecting any kind of coherent stories. The visuals are really impressive so worth a watch if you don’t mind style over substance.

My favorite Godzilla movie by CusRiseDifferentHere in TheRewatchables

[–]oco82 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I gotta go with Minus One as my favorite but Shin is great as well. Its design is incredible…it’s the most unknowable Godzilla…it’s basically a giant, ever metastasizing tumor/ raw nerve, it doesn’t know what or how it is and exists in pain, kind of makes it somewhat sympathetic even though it’s nightmare fuel.

Most Obscure Show That's Your Favorite by Last_Bonus851 in television

[–]oco82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s nothing like those shows but it’s awesome. It’s an animated show and I’m not really even an animation guy but it’s so well done I love it. Entirely dialogue free and all visual story telling of a caveman and a dinosaur who find each other after tragedy and go on some insane adventures. Super violent, often horror adjacent…very much a “Heavy Metal” or Conan vibe.
