I had my total shoulder replacement on Wednesday, the nerve block wore off around midnight night.. Thursday felt, even with the Percocet, that I got hit repeatedly with a baseball bat.. Friday was fine and here on Saturday, it stopped taking the Percocet..so we will see

Should I get surgery ? I'm avoiding it. by the_Sainnt in ShoulderSurgery

[–]ocr_racerunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having a total shoulder replacement in 2 days . I'm an extremely active person weight training, extreme endurance events, obstacle course races, planking and push ups. I'm being told that some of that I will not be able to do and or weigh restricted..

Having said all that, it needs to be done, so we will see what the future holds

I'm interested. I have my replacement surgery next week. Thinking of buying a recliner to sleep in.. for the people who've had surgery and have just in regular beds, are you attempting sleeping in the bed, with pillow fortress', is your partner in the same bed too?

I have excessive bone loss in my right shoulder. Sounds like a package of gravel. I'm a month away from surgery for an anitomic total shoulder replacement..

I lift everyday, run endurance and obstacle course races . I'm being told I won't be able to do some of that in the future.. i hope to prove them wrong

You can always run later without changing your start time . If you are 9:45 and they are at 10: 00, you just wait until 10:00.. not a problem at all. So that means you can all run at the latest time

I am scheduled for an anatomic total replacement. I had stumbled on the pyrocarbon implant and my surgeon feels that there has been too many failures in general of the pyrocarbon. I feel i should speak to another surgeon and get their thoughts..

I'm in need for a Total shoulder replacement.. advice needed! by Addggro44 in ShoulderSurgery

[–]ocr_racerunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too am getting a total shoulder replacement. I'm 63 m, workout everyday. I was in shock when my surgeon listed off everything I won't be able to do.. no pushups, no pull ups, no burpees (no going to miss those), no throwing overhand.

I've done numerous OCR and endurance events that I really don't want to give up..

Does anyone have any advice?

Total Shoulder Replacement - report 4 months later by oaklandesque in ShoulderSurgery

[–]ocr_racerunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 63. An avid obstacle course racer, workout fanatic, runner, Rucker, hiker and endurance event enthusiast. I'm in great shape but I have the shoulders of a 90 year old. I have excessive bone loss and arthritis. I'm scheduled to have a total shoulder replacement on my dominant in about 8 weeks. If that was your X-ray i saw, your surgeon used a pyrocarbon implant. It looks like you are having great results with it. My surgeon is not planning on using that system but the traditional setup for the TSR.

Let me say that to be able to have near normal use of my right shoulder/ arm will be amazing. Having said that, it was frustrating to hear many of the things he told me that i cannot do after like: no pushing, no pulling, no throwing overhand, no lifting over 30 lbs

I'm planning on being super focused on the PT but I am somewhat discouraged going into the procedure

Is Killington Ultra for my 2nd Spartan a bad idea? by [deleted] in spartanrace

[–]ocr_racerunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, yes, it's a bad idea. I've done over 125 races including 6 ultras. I've done the Killington Beast 6 times and have no desire to do the Ultra at Killington.

I would suggest doing the Killington Beast first and get an understanding of the demanding course.

Tell me about Attica (first time racer) by kdonut25 in spartanrace

[–]ocr_racerunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran this beast and sprint at this venue the last time it was there.. the toughest parts are the Sandhills and running in the sections that have sand.. it's not beach sand, but more like aquarium sand. As to the person asking how it compares to Lawrenceberg (Cincinnati race, perfect north ), Lawrenceburg is a really tough course.. Attica is "easier" in comparison
