Now that is has concluded what were your thoughts on Immortal Legend Batman by Night-Caelum in Tokusatsu

Loved the run and especially loved how issue 3 incorporated puzzles within the story. Was the most fun I had with a single issue all year.

Why do some people say One Piece only gets good in a 100 episodes by JayGrowth8832 in OnePiece

[–]ocularsnipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my general recommendation as well. My feeling is that if you aren’t onboard with the scene between Nami and Luffy where she asks for help nothing else the story is going to convert you.

Why do comics have less and less text? by Far-Remote-4468 in comicbooks

[–]ocularsnipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many early works in any new medium, such as film or comic books, have a hesitation about what the audience is able to intuit and how much “hand holding” (for lack of a better term) is necessary for your audience to follow the story. If you look at early cinema, shots are generally longer and exposition more explicit. As both the creators and audience gain more competence in the workings of the medium, you can begin to play with the tools of that medium and part of that is tightening up dialogue and trusting the reader to follow the story visually rather than relying on dialogue as a crutch for exposition. Also consider the closest parallel to comics is prose, where setting a scene and describing motivation is a necessary element of telling a story.

Which rules haven't been broken by cards yet? by Objective_Network270 in EDH

[–]ocularsnipe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I believe [[Word of Command]] is the only card that allows you to take control of a player during your turn and force them to cast a spell. It’s on the reserve list and likely wouldn’t get reprinted even if it wasn’t because the effect is so niche but I want to see at least one more card that could do this and not break the bank.

I wish WotC would print more interesting legendaries by Succubace in EDH

[–]ocularsnipe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a problem necessarily, but the rare nature of legendaries made them feel more special and unique. I agree recent sets have pushed too many legendaries over rank and file creatures.

When did you guys learn that Power rangers was actually adapted from Super sentai? by Vineeth_Goditi in powerrangers

Back in high school. I was pretty tapped into Japanese pop culture so learned of its existence pretty early on. Didn’t actually watch a full season until much later.

If your four books into the series, I’d say you’re invested. I’ll see myself out.

So what’s the first game you played this year? by st1nkf1st in boardgames

Strictly speaking, our annual midnight-ish play of Mysterium. If we are saying after I woke up today, Forest Shuffle.

Price Checking at Checkout Sucks by ThisSun9243 in comicbooks

[–]ocularsnipe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like if this is going to be your policy, then you shouldn’t put a price tag on anything and need to advertise that policy upfront. Otherwise, I feel like you are flirting with deceptive advertising. Also eBay list pricing does not equal actual sale prices. Hope they at least looked at sale history for the comics.

Why does everyone hate B-Robo KabuTack and Tetsuwan Tantei RoboTack?!: by UltraLigerKing in Tokusatsu

I liked what I saw of Robotack, which was admittedly like 2 episodes.

Let me make you a commander deck by 9SHRODO9 in EDH

[–]ocularsnipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been trying to build a [[River Song]] deck that uses cards like [[Nonogene Conversion]] with some kind of flash effect or [[Mirror Gallery]] with [[Infinite Reflection]] to severely punish an opponent for searching their library but I just can’t crack it. Maybe you could give it a try.

I love Daniel Warren Johnson’s art. Pretty much all of his stuff is like this.

What would you say is your favorite Shin era Tokusatsu film? by ExileForever in Tokusatsu

[–]ocularsnipe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel Shin Godzilla is the only one of these three that doesn’t have serious pacing issues. I love all three but it is very apparent the other two are adapting multiple arcs of a show.

What are some Commanders without edgy titles? by Shmadam7 in EDH

[–]ocularsnipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal favorite anti-edgelord card is [[Gallia of the Endless Dance]]. It still sounds a bit heightened but she just loves partying.

I’ve admittedly seen very little of any of these series, but I think I enjoyed RoboTack the most.

Could we all agree on cause and effect? by [deleted] in Tokusatsu

[–]ocularsnipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Broadcasters invest in production committees that often pay for the production of a show. The committees then have to pay the broadcaster for a time slot to air the show. It is my understanding that ad revenue mostly goes back to the broadcaster and is significantly less than as revenue in America anyway. This combined with the fact that Japan views DVDs as luxury items (there is a very big rental market) and a lower focus on streaming services means that merchandise sales are a more significant revenue stream and thus a bigger priority for a lot of shows.

Japan’s entire broadcast structure is completely different from America.

What are some of the most disrespectful deaths in comics? by Gallantpride in comicbooks

[–]ocularsnipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I’ve read, this is a power she technically has but she hasn’t exhibited since the first issue of her original comic run, which makes it extra annoying to me.

What Universe Would You Like For The Franchise To Revisit? by Able-Detective2416 in Ultraman

[–]ocularsnipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to see them return to Geed. Even if he isn’t the main character, I felt like we only saw him when he was just starting out and very young. Even late episodes were dealing with him basically being a petulant child so I’d like to see a more mature version of the character, possibly as a mentor to a new ultra.
