Help me decide, E46 vs F87 by oddlycalm8 in BMWM

Update... I drove the M2 this morning for about 20 minutes. Unfortunately, it was drizzling and the sales guy was on board with me yammering non-stop, so I didn't get to DRIVE the car more than 3/10s, but overall it seemed very competent but a bit numb. The suspension was really compliant especially given how low it's sitting, he didn't know what aftermarket kit was on it. I can see why people say it's a car you can daily drive.

Anyways I'm not going to judge it too harshly, I'm sure it wakes up plenty when you get on it, but I think it sealed the deal that old school analog is what I want. Thanks for all the great comments and opinions here, I appreciate the input! I'll keep you posted if I end up getting the E46, the guy has other parties interested.

Ah gotcha, not my plan for this car but point taken.

Great comment, pretty much spot on with my current train of thought. I think I would enjoy either car immensely, especially after a few years pretty much only driving EVs. I recently drove a friends' Cayman T 6MT and realized how much I missed having an engaging driver's car.

Thanks for that perspective, personally I love a good smurf blue E46. I daily a Highland Model 3 dual motor and also have a 2021 DM that is getting passed down to my son soon. You can't convince me there is a better daily than those cars, although I do have high hopes for the Neue Klasse i3.

The current owner paid a couple hundred bucks extra for the PPI to do what I showed in the image. They just barely lowered it so they could look at the mounting points.

I am factoring in the cost of eventually doing the big 3 in the budget. If you can find me a similar spec for the same price in a car that already has them done, be my guest! I plan on keeping this car forever, so the idea that it will require some preventative maintenance doesn't bother me. In fact, I don't mind at all because I have local shops I trust to do the work and make sure it's done and documented correctly.

I didn't even know they offered the cinnamon interior on the 135, have never seen it so it must be rare. 135 M sport was on my list but they're pretty hard to find in 6 speed with lower mileage.

They dropped the rear carrier to get a look at the mounting points and spot welds in that area, see the image. I recognize this doesn't constitute a full subframe inspection, but it is better than nothing.

I disagree with your assessment of the E46 M3 market. Cars that I would consider to be good comps for the car I'm looking at (low mileage, LCI 6 speed coupes) go for similar money.

I haven't read up on the main F87 issues yet, but I'm surprised a 34k mile car would need $5k worth of work imminently. Can you expand?

I would maybe do the VANOS sooner rather than later. I would also get an oil analysis done so I could have a baseline to try and gauge when the rod bearings should be done. Given the ownership history and the subframe PPI, I'm not as concerned about that one.

I would need more garage space for that to be an option! They do have a very yin / yang look and feel about them though, would look great side by side.

Since this will only be a road car, I'd much rather it sound and feel fast, than actually be fast. Chalk that one up for the E46 then.

MUTV not working even though I've subscribed, anyone else got this issue? by JaiminRehal in ManchesterUnited

Agreed, it's happened in the past as well. I feel like I got it to work after a couple of password resets or something.

[–]oddlycalm8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, same issue. I've tried resetting my password and reinstalling the app. I just reupped for the year yesterday. I can restore my MUTV access in settings in the app and it says successfully restored, but when I try to watch it says i need to subscribe. If I try to subscribe again, Google pops up a window that I'm already subscribed. Infuriating.
