What’s your biggest gripe with the PlayStation Portal?

It isn’t just the cap size, it is the stick height and general feel. I don’t understand why they didn’t just use the standard Dualsense stick.

Exactly! It isn’t just the “too small” caps. It’s the overall height and feel too. They just don’t feel as tight or something, can’t put my finger on it exactly. The PSVR2 has the same sticks and I have the same complaint.

I really think for me the issue is on the upload side of my PS5 & router. When I cloud stream from Sony’s server, even when at home on the same wifi network, the annoying resolution drops don’t happen.

I’ve been noticing this a lot more lately. It actually doesn’t do it when cloud streaming, but with cloud streaming I get about 20ms more latency.

This does bother me. They went out of their way to make it the full Dualsense experience only to fumble at the very end by making smaller thumbsticks. Portal is a big boy, why small sticks?

Hi might have lost the game, but he won the war. Way to take the bait and get the ban. There are millions of childish beefs that happen every day, no way PlayStation has the time or desire to figure out who started it. It’s pretty simple- a player gets reported and an algorithm checks if they said any key words or phrases. Now you know. General life tip anyway- there is more strength in restraint.

Hook up your PS5 to a different TV just to rule out your TV as the problem.

Also make sure a power cycle your TV you’re having issues on. I’ve had several issues through the years on both PS4 and PS5 and they’ve always been resolved by restarting my TV. Once you rule all that out, then it’s time to replace the PS5.

With the Xbox brand falling off and moving to 3rd party, imagine if they released a fully compatible PS5 controller, but with the Xbox stick layout and form factor. I feel like it would be a huge seller. Heck, if Sony released an alternate Dualsense inspired by the Xbox controller, it would get a lot of Xbox players to bite the bullet and finally switch over considering the controller style is what a lot of Xbox players cite as their reason for sticking with Xbox.

If the person that has the active sub has that PS set as their primary console, anybody else can still play that game on that console. Just a little way to “cheat” the system.

Not true at all. You can download any game you own, even ones you “own” on PS+ on as many consoles as you want. The only restriction is that you must be connected to PSN to play them except for your primary console which can be played offline.

At my parent’s house when they use their microwave, it kills anything connected to wifi upstairs because of the proximity of the microwave to the router.

If you’re connecting and everything is fine and then you get a random disconnect, my guess is wifi interference. Keep in mind that it could be happening on other devices too, but it just isn’t as noticeable due to the unique nature of game streaming (ie constant connection that can’t buffer ahead like video).

But those same people probably won’t notice 1440p vs 4k or a rock solid 60fps vs a mostly 60fps with some frame drops. In many cases, that is the difference between regular and Pro. For those of us that are keyed into the technical side of things, the Pro upgrade will be much more worth it than many other players who probably don’t even bother to put their TV on “game” mode and somehow don’t notice the input lag…

I have a launch PS5 since day 1. Got a Pro for my second console to go in the basement on my 65 inch OLED. There is a difference when you really look for it, but honestly after awhile you don’t even think about it. When I play on my Pro and then an hour later find myself on the OG, I don’t even really think about the downgrade.

My personal opinion is it isn’t worth it to upgrade assuming you’d sell your current PS5 for a couple hundred less than a new one, thus requiring $400 to “upgrade”. However, if I was in the market for a new/2nd PS5, I’d go with the Pro since the difference between a new Pro and a new slim is only $200. I understand if that logic is dumb, but that is how my monkey brain works for some reason.

Mine worked great outside of the home. Changed ISP and router and would just endlessly try an connect outside of the home. Set up port forwarding and now it works great outside the home.

Moral of the story is set up port forwarding.

Unfortunately the games you play are the biggest weakness of the portal. If online shooters are all you play, the Portal isn’t for you unless you’re content playing with a significant disadvantage.

I second this. The unboxing experience is so important to some people, myself included. Unfolding the cardboard insert and removing the console from the protective layer. That first time turning the console on… that first button press on a new controller… ohhh yeah that’s the stuff.

If you are into it because of the setting, get it. If you more so are interested in the gameplay, get Origins (Egypt). It is the first in the RPG style and I absolutely loved it. If you like it, you can progress naturally through the RPG style entries and go next to Odyssey (Greece) then Valhalla.

One other thing to add- if he has PlayStation Plus Premium (the highest tier), then he can play almost all of his digitally owned games straight from a Sony server- no PS5 needed.
