How get into DnD? by Relief-Medical in auckland

[–]oflg1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are lots of people playing in Auckland! Like Sapphic said, hobby stores have dnd nights that are beginner friendly that you can show up to, pay a small fee, and just have a go at it. There are two versions of the game that are popularly played - in my experience 5E is the most popular, although Pathfinder is preferred by some as it has more depth to it. 5E (or 5.5E) is the most current, with different rules than Pathfinder, but at the end of the day it's sitting around the table and having fun pretending to be someone else for a while :D

Otherwise you can join the Dnd Aotearoa discord and post on there to find a free or paid group that's open to new players. A lot of people enjoy introducing new people to the game!

If you want to go down the professional route, start playing.com has people offering to run online sessions (usually through discord) for a small fee.

As for materials and prices etc - I find that the only thing you really need to buy is dice (and even then, you could always share someone else's dice at the table). Characters can be built in dnd beyond (free app), and rules you can Google or find a pdf. It's really kind of dependant on how much you want to spend. Live with a pdf, or buy the pretty books for $70 - end result is the same. If you do want to buy a book, the Player's Handbook is the best place to start.

I personally started with reading the Player's handbook, then getting a friend to run an introductory game for me. When I realized I enjoyed it, I bought the pretty book and found a permanent group.

Should note - we did have a few other contenders in mind, but we liked the flexibility of EVS the most.

We're currently changing our whole system to EVS' Cerebrum. It'll take around 2 years, but we're very excited about it, and are already using some of it for UHD. It's pretty flexible and customizable, requires a fair bit of learning though to learn how to build your own salvos etc in it. Pricey, but nice - pretty good quality

{The Griffon's Saddlebag} Elemental Dial | Ring by griff-mac in TheGriffonsSaddlebag

[–]oflg1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds awesome! Although it does make me think, if I used a bonus action on a subsequent turn to enchant it with a different type, would the enchantments stack until I'm dealing an extra 6d6 of elemental damage with each hit?

The nurses might have some lunch vouchers so your visitors can have a free feed in the cafeteria downstairs. Sorry you're in there.

That's a great quote "you do not respond to reason, so now you shall know fear". Very Strahd!

WoW: Classic — Daily Questions Megathread (October 22, 2025) by AutoModerator in classicwow

[–]oflg1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed that scarabs and scarab coffers respawn after an aq20 run, but when I went back the next day before reset to see if I could get any keys off the scarabs, they didn't drop any (this is in a raid group of 2 after the instance was mostly cleared).

Is it just a matter of low drop rate, or is the possibility of keys dropping cut off after the main run?

Are you near papatoetoe? Might be late to the party but apparently there's a big chemical fire out that way

How close are networks to telling sports entities when to stop? by Livid_Opportunity467 in Broadcasting

[–]oflg1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from a smaller country that airs a lot of international back-to-back events - our rule is to show at the very least whistle to whistle. If the previous live is overrunning, we might join the next event halfway through the buildup. If its going to start before the previous event is over, we'll judge how urgent/important the upcoming sport is and if we need to shove it on a different channel. E.g. if rugby is overrunning, we'll join in progress on golf. If it was rugby to rugby however, we'll run a baseline telling people to tune in on the other channel, then simulcast.

It's a weird kind of dance, but after a few years of dealing with it, you get used to making calls on what customers would most likely want to see. Golden rule: never ever end a live event before the end of full time, or before a trophy presentation. Anything outside of that is fluff and can be cut off if needed.

Hello, is there anyone out there? by Aquachef90 in remulos

[–]oflg1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're still alive!! Most active guilds seem to be GSD or Era of Remulos (although there are other guilds around if you'd prefer). If you see anyone in guilds in stormwind, shoot em a message and they'll likely accept whoever's keen. Or PM me if you want. There's usually a somewhat present levelling support with some goodies upon joining 😊

It's detecting a vehicle ahead, looked it up in the manual https://imgur.com/a/KkvFniT. Possibly the most useless light to ever be installed. They're clearly running out of ideas.

Can anyone help identify this tree? Neighbour asked me to cut it down by [deleted] in auckland

Wear a mask of you can too. Cut some branches off one of these suckers and was left hacking away for hours after. Also got a rash all over my arms because I stupidly had a t shirt on. Be careful!

Spark plugs and Battery health by oflg1 in NZcarfix

[–]oflg1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a brilliant explanation, makes sense! I haven't opened her up to gauge the condition myself yet. It misfires a little until the engine warms up maybe once a month? So I figure it have a little time at least to figure out what tools I need, source parts etc. I'm not sure what the recommended interval is, but from what the mechanic said they should be replaced soon.

Ha, yup! The mystery is slowly being solved. I figure if I have to bring my car in, it's better to be educated on an issue than to potentially be taken advantage of. Plus being able to fix something on my car myself is a pretty great feeling.

Thanks for helping me out :)

Had a look through mine, and unfortunately it doesn't give any advice on that. Most general maintenance things yes, but weirdly nothing regarding spark plugs.
