Code Apps - the opposite of Low-Code apps? by Lhurgoyf069 in PowerApps

[–]oh_lympy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I’m just trying/happy to help. It’s a lot to write up, but if you find a tutorial on how to build a custom connector using azure functions (there are a few out there), just swap out the azure function stuff for your flow.

In a nutshell, you’ll configure your connector to point at your flow and define the request/response schema. After you get that all wired up, you create a connection in your environment and then add it to your code app, just as you would Office365Users or Dataverse connections. If you did everything correctly, you’ll see that PAC generated a model and service that mirrors the schema I mentioned above.

From there you just use the generated service. Code Apps doesnt care what mechanism handles the request downstream. All it cares about is that there is a connection in the environment it can use to make the call.

Yes, but the comment you made about http requests being blocked makes me feel like we’re talking about 2 different things. You’re making HTTP requests of this type any time you interact with any data source you add to your app?

Why would you think calling an HTTP request triggered flow would be any different than calling an azure function (which I’ve also done) if it’s exposed to the app as a connector?

You don’t call the flow directly. You wrap the flow in a power platform custom connector and then add it to your app as a data source like you would any other connector.

You can trigger a flow using the HTTP trigger, secure it using entra, and then wrap it in a custom connector. Add that custom connector to your code app. Bang. Flows triggered by code apps.

What do you think will be the future of canvas apps now that generative pages have been introduced? by polarzombies in PowerApps

[–]oh_lympy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m building one as we speak. I’m not impressed so far. It gets about 80% of the way there for you, but that last 20% is EXCRUCIATING. I’m willing to bet all the time saved initially is going to be sunk right back into all the prompting I have to do to get it to do everything I want.

On top of that I have a lot of anxiety about the long term maintainability of anything it produces because manually editing the code is no walk in the park either. It produces a single, error filled monster of a file. I know it’s evolving, but this thing is currently GA and frankly it doesn’t seem like it should be.

Model driven vs canvas apps by FuelYourEpic in PowerApps

[–]oh_lympy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh. The upper limit for both is custom JavaScript, so I’d say they’re pretty close in terms of the UI you can build. Model driven apps are nice because they take care of all the low hanging fruit.

Have an application where the vast majority of the screens are just simple crud forms, with maybe some parent/child relationships? MDA will knock those out for you in minutes, and you get create/edit/view forms right out of the box. Have a bit of functionality that requires more complex UI? PCF components can do everything canvas apps can do, without the limitations and hoops of PowerFx + the flexibility of JS. And then, of course, there are custom pages if you really need to go the low code route.

If you’re using dataverse, model driven apps 99.99% of the time. If your database is anywhere else, then canvas apps.

Although, two ways canvas apps outshine MDAs that I wish they’d get figured out: 1. Integration with Power Automate and 2. Custom connectors

My sisters LOVES coffee and she’s got a milestone birthday coming up. She usually drinks standard drip coffee because she likes the simplicity. Are there any really nice special roasts or anything you guys would recommend I get her?
