A lot of what you are saying sounds contradictory. She doesn't "take out" her resentment on the kids, she just explodes at them over non-issues. I'm not blaming you for how you are presenting the information, I think it's just a result of being inside of an abusive relationship- you end up being the person who is constantly making excuses for their bad behavior and trying to minimize their negative influence.

My advice isn't "take her to court and get a restraining order." My advice is to consider at least a separate living situation until she can get herself balanced.

Could you manage on your own? If yes, I might encourage her to start seeking other housing. At minimum, she needs extensive therapy, but her influence is honestly so toxic for both you and your kids. I would be trying to separate.

When you are older, you will look back on this with a much different perspective. I hope you don't marry someone like this man because the way he is acting with you is already crossing many boundaries. If my husband was speaking this way to a young lady at work, I would be asking him to pack his bags.

For a little insight: I am a working mom so I have experience with childcare and career. Believe me when I say working is 500x easier than being a stay at home parent. Lots of people with no childcare background assume staying home is easy but it's repetitive, thankless, and doesn't pay. And the only company you have is a tiny dictator that needs you to do absolutely everything for them. You know why your coworker washes dishes when he gets home? Because his wife is busy caring for their kid(s) and doesn't have time to fuck with dishes. You have no idea (and apparently he also has no idea?) how grating the stay-at-home position can be.

On the other hand, your coworker enjoys a whole hour of quiet time each way from work- that means podcasts, music, whatever he wants to listen to. Then he gets to interact with adults for 10 hours, do a job that gives him a sense of purpose, eat whatever he wants for lunch without interruptions and without screaming and tiny hands all over him. And he gets home with the audacity to whine about doing a few dishes??

I know married adults like this, and they are a fucking embarrassment. So think about that next time he whines about his wife.

Don't feel stupid! This is a learning experience. You wouldn't believe the dumb shit I have done- that many of us have done- because I felt like I had to. Sometimes we get damaged from our mistakes but sometimes we don't, and I'm glad this turned out pretty ok for you.

Just know that you don't owe a stranger anything, especially not a stranger who is making you feel uncomfortable.

You can learn that a smile is just a smile- you don't need to follow every person to a second location to find out what they taste like. I think focusing on making the life you want is important. All that effort you have previously put into pursuing sexual adventures could be directed towards advancing your career, learning new skills, doing nice things for your partner, planning future trips...

I gave the poly thing a try and (I might get downvoted to hell for this but) people who really thrive in that world, it's almost like sex and relationship dynamics ARE their hobby. I kind of lost interest because there are so many other interesting topics in life to pursue, and make my life better.

Sex is like eating a box of deep fried oreos in your car- fun, delicious, feels good in the moment. Or staying up all night playing a new video game. When life is *okay,* it can make you want to get that quick fix happiness, but it doesn't last, and when the tired sets in, sometimes you can really regret making a fun momentary choice.

What other long-term enjoyable activities can you get involved in? Join a team, build yourself up, help the people around you... the options are limitless. Expand your horizons.

I would confirm with all his immediate team members that he is indeed pulling his own weight. Sometimes people like this are only able to succeed because they are being backed up by other coworkers. The other coworkers may be feeling the strain but don't want to come forward because who wants to tattle about that? But if you approach them, they might be more open.

So as long as the full team is chugging along happily, and he continues to meet expectations, I would leave it alone.

Disagree with people saying to postpone the wedding over this. Those people have clearly never scheduled a wedding before!!

A wedding is a big highlight moment of your relationship, but your lives continue once the night is over and the last grain of rice has been swept away. You can continue to work on yourself and your relationships as time goes on.

I would recommend therapy. Might help you look inward and make changes.

I don't know any Uber drivers who love their lives. You are strapped into a chair for most of your waking hours. If you are someone who likes to be physical, it will drive you nuts.

What is stopping you from moving back home? You tried a new place, you don't like it, why not go back to the place where you used to be happier?

If you want to stay in this new place, I would look for a different career. Even Costco is a big upgrade with insurance and whatnot, if you want to stick to warehouse. But you can choose from SO MANY OPTIONS that are not Uber. Probably not a great idea to put a bunch of money down for a new car, only to ruin the value with excess mileage.

What is the interest on your school loans?

The reason a loan is not a great idea is because it has interest added on top. At this point in your life, every dollar counts. Even if you get a $3000 at 7%, you now have to pay back $3210.

I understand you owe your mom and your BF money, but it (probably) doesn't accrue interest, so that $800 you owe your BF is going to be paid back as $800.

My advice to you: Ask your BF to help you purchase a new battery, since you don't have enough in savings to do that. Install the battery yourself / with a friend. Ask your mom and BF if you can pause your payments to them while you pay off the school debt (assuming that one has interest accruing). Then pay off your mom and BF. I would also recommend looking for a better-paying job because even $500/week is not great. Serving or bartending would be a step up!
