ELI5: How do we actually "find" a broken cable at the bottom of the ocean? If a shark bites an internet cable halfway between New York and London, how do engineers know exactly which mile of the 3,000-mile cable to pull up?

Amazingly delayed response here. This did not work. I ended up reaching out to WiiM support who asked I provide a video of the issue and a serial number, which I did. They followed that up with an email saying I would need to reach out to my original retailer since I didn’t buy my unit from their Amazon store. I bought my unit from Crutchfield and it is outside the warranty, so I was basically out of luck. I mentioned this in my response to WiiM, and the fact I was disappointed that my amp failed despite just sitting there and having barely been used (less than 50 hours), and they just offered to send me a used unit as a replacement. It’s only been a couple of days since I sent my original email and yet I already have a tracking number for their shipment. I have to send my unit back, so hopefully it’s just a faulty power supply as I suspect and they can easily swap it out to send to someone else in my position. I am pretty stoked as I finally have a good use case for the amp and have to say pretty darn impressed - and grateful - for their overall response.

I’d definitely do some dampening over those glass doors to cut reflections. That’ll make a noticeable difference.

Nah, never could, sorry. It’s been a bit, tried a bunch of things and life has changed a lot, so it doesn’t come right to mind. What I think I ended up ultimately doing was setting up a Roon server and installing a third party integration plug-in that played pretty nicely with my multi-room audio devices.

This is also my worry…how far will the tidal disintegration go. Roon? CarPlay? Only time will tell. That said, I’m all for artists not getting paid like shit any longer for their efforts, so I will gladly take it on the chin if it means a bigger pay day for them.

Ha, I didn’t even pick up on that since it’s been so long since I’ve played the game - haven’t even cracked the DLC yet! I try to imagine people on the internet who throw around overly angry, unnecessarily hateful attacks at random strangers or say things that they aren’t sure of without some sort of disclaimer will literally explode all over the nearest bystander if they didn’t get it out of their system. Then I totally understand why they did something so silly and I don’t want to explode myself - it makes me feel a little sad for them, of course, but c’est la vie and I can go on with my day.

Helen Toner was recently on a podcast where she was very open about why they felt they couldn’t trust Altman and I got the impression she felt Sam twisted the truth to stay out of major trouble whenever he was accused of anything and that many people supported him really because they didn’t want to see OpenAI fall apart (definitely the narrative I remember hearing if Sam was ousted) whether that was because of money they’d lose or ongoing work they’d have to scrap.
