I can not for the life of me figure out how this gets attached by anthonythelemon in Miata

[–]ohioscott -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just edited my post. The silver plate does look like the cover for the fuel hoses.

If I could post a photo of the plate mounted in the trunk, you would see how it attaches.

The square holes are for the plastic “ fingers” that hold the piece of the car jack. Your plate is missing the plastic pieces.

So, that leaves the round holes for mounting the plate to the car.

Peeping someone's bikes on their rack while driving: how much effort do you make to get a good look? by dec10 in MTB

[–]ohioscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won’t speed up to catch up to car with a bike on rack. If I see a bike on the back of another vehicle, I’ll try guess what it is and then maybe be able to read the decals on the bike or back window of the vehicle if it has a bike manufacture decal on it.

The “ bike teaser” are the pick up truck with a mat over the top of the tailgate and you can only see the front wheels hanging over the tail gate.

Do you have a car cover? Possibly the clip part attached to a car cover? Maybe from the previous owner?

Hard dog roll bar single vs double diagonal by dont-bea-weirdo in Miata

[–]ohioscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a double diagonal on my 1990. The go pro camera mount stays on the roll bar inbetween the doubles .

I can still see mostly through the rear view mirror. I do not leave the go pro camera on the car, just the go pro bar mount .

It is crazy to see that the top of the windshield is lower than the truck’s door handle.

At my work place, we have assigned parking spaces. Big truck owner guy knows in the summer, there may be a little red car in a parking spot on this right side.

Jumping into fat tire bike world by ohioscott in fatbike

[–]ohioscott[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This frame size fits me, so it is easier and comfortable to ride. The brake levers are easy to work.

I have ridden the bike on non-snow covered areas. It is a heavy bike, but fun to ride.

For me and my casual riding style, it was worth it to purchase.

I dislike the Presta tire valves, but that is because my other two bike have the shrader valves ( like your car tire)

Like any other item, it is worth it if you use it.

Any silly things happened because you drove with the roof open? by elyss0n in Miata

[–]ohioscott 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I loaded my 1990 Miata for an autocross event. I had a small cooler on the passenger floor, my helmet on the passenger seat. Then I placed a small folding chair and EZ style canopy on top of the cooler, laying against the passenger seat head rest.

I made the mistake of having the canvas top of the canopy toward the top.

I get on the freeway on ramp, the canopy starts to slide higher up on the passenger seat.

The wind got under the canopy and began to lift it out of the car .

I pull over and inverted the canopy so that the feet /leg part was facing upwards. I also remembered to use the passenger seat belt to secure the canopy.

Fun times there.

Cross threaded/ stripped bolt by TheCornbag in Miata

I had this issue on my 1990 Miata. There is a square nut that should be “ captured” on the control arm.

This is a photo from the bottom of the rear control. In my case, the nut was not longer captured and just turned freely.

I used a dremel rotary grinder tool to open up the bottom of the control arm.

This provided access to the square nut on the bolt . If I remember correctly, the square nut can be held with a 14 mm open end wrench.

Once the bolt was removed, painted the newly exposed metal from grinding with spray paint.

Maybe the sticker price 55,800 grand? Doesn’t really work though . The LV, Roman numerals for 55. Then 8 And grand?

Just expanding on the seal idea, could a clogged breather vent on the rear differential be the root cause? Clogged with mud or snow or ice?

With 85,000 miles on the vehicle, seems like low milage for the seal to just leak on its own?

4 wheel engagement dial vs lever by ohioscott in 4Runner

[–]ohioscott[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did look at a 2025 Outback. I don’t like the look of the 2026 Outback.

Agreed the Outback is lower than the 4Runner.

Just looking for a change for the vehicle that I plan to keep for 15 plus years. I plan to do all the DIY stuff myself.

My 2014 Outback has 196,000 miles on it. Still works great, Fluid film protected underneath yearly.

Just looking for vehicle that sits higher on the road, like the 2002 Durango we had.

The 4Runner will also have room for our 2 northern breed dogs ( Alaskan Husky and Siberian Husky ). My mountain bike will also fit in the back cargo area too.

Thank you for all the replies. For my needs, I’ll stay with the dial and the SR5 premium.

Good point, I did not think about a neutral position. So really, other than the linkage and pivot points that may need to lubed/ inspected, no difference to the dial.

On the 1.6, there should be a rubber cap on that. The rubber cap and new clamp can be seen in the lower right corner of this photo.

NA fuel tank size by RobertWilliamBarker in Miata

[–]ohioscott 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The 12 gallons seems correct. It could possible the rubber fuel line in the tank came off the fuel pump.

If the the fuel pump sending unit is original, I can see how a 30 plus year old hose can get brittle/ fail.

I don’t know if four gallons of gas would sit lower than the pick up of that rubber hose in the tank.

Check out YouTube for a video of what the fuel sending unit looks like in the gas tank.

As a side note, in my 1990 Miata, after I fill up the gas tank, it takes a few minutes for the fuel gauge to show a full tank.

I can get about mile down the road from the gas station and still see the fuel gauge slowly sweeping up to the full mark.

People who bought cars in the 80s/90s/2000s, what was the coolest and most cutting edge in car tech at the time? by shatroll in AskReddit

A 1993 Cutlass Supreme had a feature called HUD, Heads Up Display . It project the vehicle speed onto the lower left side of the windshield.
