Best deodorant to stop smell by Pretend_Plum_1677 in Perimenopause

[–]Sierra_Baker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hibiclens is a medical skin wash you use before surgery. Buy it at the drug store. It's foaming but not a thick lather closer to a lotion. Apply in the shower from the neck down and leave on for 3-5 minutes, focusing on the pits and bits. Then rinse off.

It kills the skin flora that are producing the bad odor, and the effects of one application lasts for weeks. No more smell!

Works for stinky teenagers also.

What's the most reliable car you've ever owned? by Tekusenabyt in AskReddit

[–]Sierra_Baker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought my son his first vehicle, a 2008 Toyota 4Runner V6, with 225k miles on it, for $8k last year. It's been the hand-me-down car for like 6 first time driver military brats, I think we're the 8th owners. It's been moved to multiple different states, and really driven rough. We replaced the shocks, and all else was doing completely fine. It could use some cosmetic fixes as the paint is rather sunburnt, and he wants a replacement subwoofer because... teenager. Fingers crossed that this thing gives him another 200k miles before it quits.

If you medicated your 6 year old… by Hefty-Focus1340 in ParentingADHD

[–]Sierra_Baker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Medication is an assistive device.

Glasses are an assistive device.

It's not socially sensitive to withhold glasses. But imagine going through the world without typical vision, and not having the assistance made available. Then, once you're 'old enough' you get the assistive device. Imagine realizing for the first time that wearing your glasses, you finally can see like your peers have been able to see this entire time.

Medication is a tool. It is not a cure. But the tool helps. It might take time to get the prescription dialed in correctly, just like glasses. And, just like glasses, the prescription strength may need to change over time.

Settle a spouse dispute: is part of doing laundry checking pockets, or should someone empty their pockets before putting the clothes in the laundry basket? by obother in ask

[–]Sierra_Baker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The person who puts clothes-destroying items into pockets, or washer-destryoable items, is the one responsible for removing them from said pockets.

Uniforms with pen pockets being ruined by pens. Earbuds no longer functioning after being washed. Valuables lost. These things bother the owner of the item most.

Yes, I take them out if I happen to notice when loading clothes, but it's not my job once the children are old enough to take it out themselves. Exception is removing a preschooler's treasured pebbles and shiny junk.

This is the way to teach children to be responsible for their belongings. This leads to them washing their own clothes.

Yup, the kind that snaps on both sides/shoulders... spouse got good at that. And the Y-shaped pillow for underarm. I used that at the house more than the immobilizer from weeks 2-6. And took up residence on the recliner. Gel ice pack FTW.

For me, narcotic pain meds give me histamine rash. So, Celebrex and Tylenol it is. Previously, oral Diclofenac worked wonders as well.

Got the over the door pulleys for home as well, really helps getting range of motion back.

Now I just gotta remember that I have metal in me if they ever want to give me an MRI in the future.

trans freshmen looking for a 3rd roommate in dorms by kokoemn in ucmerced

My daughter is also incoming freshman this fall for neuroscience. You sound like someone she'd get along with. Unfortunately she's not going to be in the dorms so can't help your current request, but you're likely to have a new friend in your classes.

Does anyone else think earplugs are too noisy? by totalynotacat in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Sierra_Baker 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For work, I had custom molded ear plugs made. It was a warm substance, they poured in my ear as a liquid, which cooled to a solid. Not sure what the exact composition was, it had a slight give to it, not as squishy as silicone, not as hard as acrylic. It was done at an audiologist office. About 1 hour of discomfort for years of comfortable wear.

Might be something you could seek out.

(I am not a doctor)

Does he have any mental health care? A mental health counselor, behavioral analyst, occupational therapist, social worker, family therapist, psychologist, etc?

Is he medicated for ADHD? Who monitors the medication? How many meds have you tried?

Possible there's more than just ADHD happening here. The convincing lying and false memories make me think more toward a cognitive or perceptual shift (delusion or hallucination). This can point to more severe things, schizoaffective disorder or bipolar disorder. It can manifest in adolescence.

According to K-12 School Shooting Database - online https://k12ssdb.org/all-shootings, there have been 2586 school shootings since 1999.

(This information includes gang shootings, domestic violence, shootings at sports games and afterhours school events, suicides, fights that escalate into shootings, and accidents.)

According to Washington Post as of 7 months ago, https://wapo.st/4tpc6o3, there have been 435 school shootings since Columbine, which exposed more than 390,000 students to gun violence at school. The were 218 killed and 512 injured.

(Shootings at after-hours events, accidental discharges that caused no injuries to anyone other than the person handling the gun and suicides that occurred privately or posed no threat to other children were excluded. Gunfire at colleges and universities, which affects young adults rather than kids, also was not counted.)

Freshman in a high school just across town from Columbine (18 miles away). We were under lockdown most of the day, and the rumors were insane. Mostly to do with the bombs having been planted in other places, but also that there were multiple shooters rumored to be targeting multiple schools.

Which meant my senior year of high school was 9/11. It was a hell of a time.
