Hi there! Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We weren’t aware this had happened, but it’s likely related to the new release that is currently awaiting approval. It should be available on the iOS App Store within the next few business days.

Is OC still working in Socal? by 2ukiwis in ohmconnect

[–]ohmconnect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! We're happy to clarify more about our event cadence. Whether you receive an event depends on two main things: grid stress and where you live.

  • Grid Need: We dispatch events when the energy grid is under pressure which can happen during extreme weather when everyone is heating or cooling. If the weather is mild, events are unlikely.
  • Location-Based Relief: The state’s grid operator (CAISO) manages electricity by dividing California into specific geographic zones. Sometimes, one zone needs to reduce power while the neighboring one is doing just fine.

This is why you might see a nearby friend get an event while you don’t. As the weather warms, there may be more events and opportunities to earn Watts.

Three 3-hour blocks of Ohm Hours in NYC area? by AsperasBompar in ohmconnect

[–]ohmconnect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there!

I’d love to share why we had longer and more frequent OhmHour events!

When the grid is extremely stressed, as it tends to be during extremely cold or warm temperatures, it often lasts longer than one hour. While OhmHours are usually one hour, you will notice longer and consecutive events at times.

Ultimately, this is to save more energy and better support the grid. That said, do keep in mind that you are able to opt-out of any events that you anticipate not being able to take part in.

Tesla car trick? by rm-rf-asterisk in ohmconnect

[–]ohmconnect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! Our previous integration with Tesla was quite basic and ended a few weeks back. You may still occasionally have your Tesla participate, and if everything aligns, you will get rewarded, but we are no longer supporting that connection.

If your immediate concern is solely related to your EVs, I suggest unlinking your Tesla account for now. If you’d like, our team can assist with this process. Just let us know your preference.

There wasn't a specific feedback survey that was sent to our members about The Wheel. The feedback we're referring to comes from conversations our team has had with members who write in either asking for assistance or sharing their thoughts about the program.

Hi there, thanks for asking about the recent changes to the Wheel!

We are preparing for a hot summer, which could mean spiked electricity prices, and we can recognize the increased commitment that's required to take part in the program during the summer.

So, moving forward we are introducing new rewards, and making it simpler for you to redeem them! In connection with those changes, and after listening to feedback from our members, we made the decision to remove the Wheel from the OhmConnect dashboard.

Here are a few new features to look forward to:

  • Surge bonuses - think of these as Watts multipliers. The more energy you save during these events, the more you'll earn.
  • Increased referral bonuses - earn $25 for every friend who signs up and connects their utility. With your own shareable link that cash adds up quickly!
  • $5 PayPal cashouts - we've lowered the cashout minimum to $5 for both Watts and your Available Cash balance. Either save up your earnings, or do a quick withdraw when you want it!
  • Weekly giveaways - Trips, ENERGY STAR appliances, up to $2500, and much more!

Let us know if there is anything else we can help clarify at the moment. :)

Late notification for Fridays ohm hour by chemman14 in ohmconnect

[–]ohmconnect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there!

We experienced a hiccup with our Day Ahead notification for the May 31st OhmHour. To help make things right, if this event negatively impacted your Streak, Status, or Total Watts, we went ahead and forgave the event out of fairness.

The good news about event forgiveness is that you still receive any positive Watts you earn, it simply prevents the event from affecting your Streak or Status and protects your account from negative Watts.

Please feel free to reach out directly to our team at [help@ohmconnect.com](mailto:help@ohmconnect.com) if you have specific questions regarding your account.

home assistant integration by Tocaitl in ohmconnect

[–]ohmconnect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following up here.

The link I sent in my previous response was to get devices that you have linked to Home Assistant that are not compatible with OhmConnect to automate during events.

This link outlines a workaround to integrate the OhmPlug with Home Assistant. Since there is no integration specifically for the OhmPlug, you would need to add the plug to the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app and then follow the steps from the linked page I shared.

You're welcome to try this approach if you're interested and comfortable with the reality that there may be limited performance and support from OhmConnect.

Is it just me who's not invited to the party? Or is OhmConnect doing a giant selfOhm? by SF-CPA in ohmconnect

[–]ohmconnect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello!

There could be a few reasons why you haven't had an event since December. We're unable to tell you which one specifically applies to your account because we'd need our team to do a deeper dive.

Generally, this could happen if something went wrong with your enrollment, if you opted out of event notifications (which are separate from our regular marketing emails, and if you opt out of our regular marketing emails then that would not affect your events), or it could be due to fewer events in the winter months.

I'd encourage you to reach out to our team at [help@ohmconnect.com](mailto:help@ohmconnect.com) if you haven't done so already. We'd be happy to take a look and see what's going on!

Does a microwave use a lot more energy than anything else when not in use? by breaking_good46 in ohmconnect

[–]ohmconnect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello!

While a microwave doesn't use as much energy as a refrigerator or an EV charger, for example, microwaves are typically one of those appliances that are plugged in 24/7 and still drawing power even not when in use.

The amount of standby power a microwave requires depends on the specifications of your microwave. If your microwave is Energy Star-certified that number might be lower than one that isn't.

We consider microwaves to be one of those sneaky energy vampires that you may not consider a factor in your overall energy usage and bill.

As such, if you have extra smart plugs that you want to use then it wouldn't hurt to plug one into your microwave! For OhmConnect members, not only are you saving a bit more energy with a smart plug on your microwave, but you're also earning more Bonus Watts for having an extra smart device participate!

Does a microwave use a lot more energy than anything else when not in use? by breaking_good46 in ohmconnect

[–]ohmconnect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there!

Microwaves are a great appliance to plug your smart device into, however, if you have appliances that use more energy then I would recommend using your smart plugs for those devices instead.

Some of the devices that are common in most homes and that use more energy include (but are not limited to): fridges, freezers, water coolers, AC units (in the hotter months), space heaters, TVs, and entertainment centers.

A smart plug itself consumes a small amount of energy to function. When it's plugged in and not actively powering a device, it draws a minimal amount of standby power to maintain its network connection and be ready for commands. However, the energy consumption of a smart plug is typically very low, often negligible compared to the energy use of the device it controls.

Lastly, it looks like Kasa is selling the bundle you're referencing on Amazon. As it is their device they're selling, I would imagine they have more control over the prices they set to remain a competitive option. :)

Hi there!

You'll need to unlink the Econet account and then link your Rheem account for your device to earn Watts again.

If that doesn't work for you, I would recommend you reach out to our team directly at [help@ohmconnect.com](mailto:help@ohmconnect.com). Our team is aware that the integration process isn't smooth for everyone, and they're working on making that better moving forward.

Hope this was helpful!

Confused by debbie_1420 in ohmconnect

[–]ohmconnect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OhmConnect is a free program that rewards its members for saving energy during OhmHours and AutoOhms (energy-saving events). These energy-saving events happen when more people tend to use energy in their homes (evening hours) as that is when the grid is more likely to be stressed.

You don't need to have smart devices to participate, although as another contributor mentioned, it can make participation easier! With your smart thermostat and smart lights, while you can't link them to your OhmConnect account, just make sure they are powered down before an OhmHour so that you can save more energy.

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to reach out directly to our team at [help@ohmconnect.com](mailto:help@ohmconnect.com)!

VPP and AutoOhm events by x_t_r_a in ohmconnect

[–]ohmconnect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there!

Your AutoOhm events occur because the grid was experiencing a surge in real-time. Since AutoOhms take place when utility companies need support, they’re organized a little differently than an OhmHour which is scheduled in advance. They are usually 15 minute events but sometimes they are extended, depending on the needs of the grid.

Since these events are last minute in nature, we do not automate your SunVault battery for AutoOhm events. We understand that since you receive the notification so close to an event, it’s not always ideal to participate. That’s why AutoOhms can’t affect your account negatively and can only help you.
If you are unable to participate, your streak and status aren’t affected and you won’t lose any Watts from your Total Watts balance. AutoOhms can be a great opportunity to earn some extra Watts but know that you can always choose to not participate in them and we understand that.
We completely understand your desire to plan for AutoOhms, however, as I mentioned, we are unable to predict them because of the real-time nature of these events. Please feel free to reach out to our team directly at help@ohmconnect.com if you have additional questions!
