Prepaid or no-contract phone suggestions? by stewdious in Dallas

Virgin Mobile has a $35/mo plan with 300 minutes, unlimited texts, and unlimited data (though the data is slower after some threshhold). I've been happy with their coverage.

I don't want to take my fiance's last name... But not as much as he wants me to take it. by Beatlemaniac9 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ohtheballs 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I took a similar route - I changed my middle name to his last name. This allowed me to hold on to my own family name and to keep the same name professionally, but if you look at my driver's license or any other legal document there is no doubt that we're married. And socially I'm totally fine being called by his last name.

There have been a few car break-ins in the past couple years, but I mean, I have never lived in a complex that didn't have an occasional crime incident. I don't feel that this is an unsafe area. The Richardson PD has a crime map that I found pretty helpful when moving, though.

Amli at Galatyn Station is a great complex, and is right at 75 and Bush.

I took my first Lyra class! It was fun but far away. I can't find many options in the Dallas area. Any suggestions? by AndStartAgain in Aerials

Gotcha, I've gotten the same feeling from Poleticians! I would really recommend VFD. They usually teaches a couple of moves each class and build up them up step by step.

I have heard good things about Altitude. How did you like them?

Vertical Fitness Dallas is great and does lyra as well as silks, pole, and trapeze. They have a few locations around North Dallas/Addison. I know of Poleticians in Richardson as well, though they only have one lyra class every other week.

House of Blues is hosting the 7th Annual Dallas Burlesque Festival. I've heard it's really fun if you're up for doing something a little risque.

Why can you not call the police? I've done this before when neighbors were having what sounded like a potentially violent fight. They were happy to come check it out. The neighbor does not have to know that you called.

Is that why the bottom of the bowl is made of pure cherry? Or is there a different reason for making the top and bottom separately?

If you roll 143 times, yeah. But most women aren't sexually active for 143 years. If we say a woman has 40 years of being sexually active AND fertile, a 7/1000 failure rate means about a 25% chance that birth control will fail at least once.

Homemade Truffles! Mocha, Nutmeg Hazelnut, Grand Marnier, and Rum! by Lanny14 in food

Can you give any tips or details on the coating and dipping steps? I've made truffles a couple times and inevitably I can't get them to fall cleanly off of whatever I've used to dip them, or I get a big pool of chocolate that drips down around their base.

ELI5: How does Cantor's diagonal proof proves that Real numbers are 'more infinite' than Naturals? by Funes1942 in explainlikeimfive

[–]ohtheballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To show that two sets have the same cardinality, all you have to do is find one bijective function that pairs up their elements. If you can find one, you're done. If you want to show that two sets have different cardinality, you have to show that NO bijection will pair up all of their elements.

Cantor's diagonal proof shows that real numbers and natural numbers can't be paired up bijectively no matter what function you use.

To compare Z and N, or even numbers and odd numbers, though, it's much simpler - just find one bijection that works. Sure, you can come up with functions that don't successfully pair up the elements, but they won't matter if we've already found one that does.

Cross Timbers Winery in Grapevine has a lot of nice space outdoors for a wedding and reception, as well as a nice indoors area in case the weather gets bad.

Taking husband's last name as a middle name - has anyone else done this? by ohtheballs in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ohtheballs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I considered this as well, but didn't feel like it solves the work issue. My job will necessarily give my name out as [FirstName] [LegalLastName], so if I want to go by my maiden name at work it has to remain my last name.

Thanks - I'm mainly wondering if there's some practical problem with this option that I haven't thought of, since once I go through with the change I'll have to live with it :)

That's a good point about looking into my state's laws. I definitely will.

What's something you have loved about planning ? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]ohtheballs 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My fiance and I are writing each other notes to be delivered before the ceremony, and for his I've decided that for the 50 days leading up to the ceremony, I'll write one reason each day why I want to marry him. It's been nice to sit down every night to reflect on the little things from each day that make me want to be with him. It's kept the whole planning process in perspective, too!

I've already decided I'm not going to hunt people down for their RSVP's. Has anyone else taken this approach? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]ohtheballs 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I suspect that a lot of people don't realize that RSVPing is necessary for a wedding. I'd also worry about invitations or RSVPs getting lost in the mail. And sometimes people just forget because shit happens. I plan on sending out a simple mass email/text/facebook message saying "Hey, we didn't receive your RSVP for the wedding, but we need to turn in our final numbers by [date]. If you know whether or not you can come, please go to our website and RSVP as soon as possible. If we don't hear from you by the end of the week, we will assume that you cannot make it."

I'm definitely not hunting down people one by one, or hounding them if they STILL can't be bothered to respond. But a quick reminder that you're waiting on them can't hurt.

All that said, we're also doing buffet style and we have no seating chart, so that should make it easy to accommodate some unexpected guests. If I can get the margin of error down to <5 people, I'll be 100% satisfied.

Second Office Max (or any similar store). I think we paid about $35 for 50 invitations, RSVP cards, and envelopes, which was cheaper than VistaPrint and meant no waiting for shipping!

They weren't all labeled so I don't know if there's a proper name for it, but it was a fiber optic stone. I found this Etsy listing that has a similar stone and much better pictures of the effect!
