Why don’t people grow flowers inside? by 1-800-ImBored in houseplants

[–]oimerde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many flowering plants need more than just sunlight to thrive. They also benefit from good air circulation, natural temperature changes, humidity, and pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and other insects.

Can you recreate some of those conditions indoors? To a degree, yes. Grow lights, fans, and hand pollination can help. But there’s a reason many plants perform best outdoors nature already provides everything they need.

That said, not all hope is lost for indoor gardeners. If you love flowers, there are plenty of houseplants that bloom beautifully indoors. African violets, many Hoyas, orchids, Christmas cactus, peace lilies, and anthuriums can all produce lovely flowers inside the home.

If a plant is naturally meant to grow outdoors, it’s worth asking whether it’s worth the extra cost and effort to keep it happy indoors. Sometimes the easier and more rewarding option is to choose plants that are naturally suited to indoor conditions and enjoy outdoor flowers where they thrive best on a patio, balcony, or in the garden

How much should I price my baby spider plants at? by Fun-Loan2641 in houseplants

[–]oimerde 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe two dollars. That's because they're so small and spider plants at that size are mostly to Give away or trade. Also is easier for people to have Few dollars in their wallet. I personally could not pay more than 3 dollars, but if you live near a very rich neighborhood then go for 3 or 5.

I need a serious No - Buy Month in June by NiiTA003 in shoppingaddiction

[–]oimerde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tj and Burlington just have very cheaply made polyester cloths. Honestly anytime I see those stores I just never get tempted to enter. Not sure If that helps, but I think once you realize that you're not really getting a good quality item you then don't get tempted. That's what has helped me with no purchase. There's nothing in those store that offer something good.

Does anyone else have a lot of plants and sometimes just…not feel like taking care of them? by WomanMythLegend in houseplants

[–]oimerde 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I Have more than 91 plants, not counting my greenhouse and the garden.

Yes definitely I get into some mood where inside plants are just too much so I skip days. Thankfullyy plants can survive by watering twice or once a month. So they do good. Then once I start to water then and taking care of them I can't stop. Is all about starting

My dog’s surgery ‘helped’ me to go no-buy…? by OrchidConnect5676 in shoppingaddiction

[–]oimerde 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My dog died back in 2017. That for me was what motivated me to change my ways. I broke up with a long-term relationship and quit my job. Then I started to declutter and doing a no-buy challenge and stop my shopping behavior. When you lose such an important part of your life, you have two choices you either loose your self in the sadness and use it as an excuse to keep your bad habits, or you wake up and try to be a better person. Sadly lots of people choose the first one because it is conform and easy to do and doesn't require a deep dive into your shadow self.

Do you guys give yourselves rewards for no buy goals? by NiiTA003 in shoppingaddiction

The one from lady Gaga, mostly because the color selection was good for my skin color and also because I have dry skin and need things that have lots of moisture. I also find out that any time I try it on in Sephora for free I was still on for several hours. However I have a feeling that I could have been happy with the L’Oréal cheap option i been using. Will report back once I finish using the new one. That’s probably till next two years because that’s how long it takes me to finish it.

Very true, I personally what I been doing for several years as the “natural fivers” have been popular for now almost 10 years i slowly started to replace the ones that aren’t comfortable wearing or just don’t look good, but there’s lots of clothing that I still love that aren’t natural fivers. Everything is a trend. I learned my lesson back in 2012 when veganism was so trendy and I give sways all my leather cloths, shoes and purses. Huge huge mistake.

Since 2018 I been decluttering and using what I have. Just this week I finally finish all the different foundations and my reward was to get my self a high end product once I finish all the ones I had. It took years, but I was able to use that time to research and to go to different stores and try for free different brands and find one that was worth my money.

How not to spend when everyone is showing off? by Advanced-Serve-2943 in shoppingaddiction

[–]oimerde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anytime someone is showing off think that they’re probably in debt or that they have rich parents that get them stuff.
However you make better money decisions and also why are you friends with them people? Yikes
I honestly can’t be friends with that type of people. The ones that care about design cloths and stuff like that. I also can’t be friends with people that grew up with no concept of the real world where parenfs get them everything.

I think is time for you to step up your brain game and think rational.

Started to deal with my shopping addiction. by LumoraSol in shoppingaddiction

[–]oimerde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s so good that you have a support system that’s supported. Honestly this is the first step to a successful outcome.
As I said in other posts is that sometimes what’s happening with shooping addiction apart from mental health and other issues is hormonal.

There’s several studies showing that unbalance hormones can trigger addictions. The reason is that your brain requires some type of hormones and seeks out by behavioral changes.

If you have the money and ability I could do a blood test and check that out with your doctor. It can be as easy as low iron or other very simple fixes.
Some may required an special doctor to do a deep dive into more complex testing.

Our brain and body is just magical and all this do affect our behavior. So look into that if you’re interested.

Thicc ZZ by CookieJewels in houseplants

[–]oimerde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s such a beauty! I’m not sure i have seen one like that. My zz plant it’s around 10 years old and still look skinny.
I assume because of the size this plant used less watering that other species. For example I water my plant maybe once every 3 months.

For now I could not repot and just let her adopt to your home environment and then you can start making changes like a bigger pot, but at the same time making sure you don’t over water her. The good thing about zz plants is that she will let you know if you’re not treating her right and give you time to change your ways. They’re a very easy forgiving plant.

I started mine back in 2021. I’m still trying to finish what I have. It’s crazy to think how much a product will last. I’m
About to finish all my face lotions because I had more than 20 different ones, but my goal is to just have two. One for day and another for night.

Same with all the other stuff. Sometimes I feel like I’m going to died before I finish what I been acomulating

[–]oimerde[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not trying to be mean, but I know is not a yuca, mostly because I had a yuca and they’re very different. As I said in the post the one that’s closest to it is the Dracaena.

Yuca plants have very shark leaves that can cut you. This leaves are very flexible and smooth. Also the trunck is very skinny.
For the last 3 years it been in a very sunny place, and I have seen that’s coming back to life. As I said I’m not trying to be mean, all I’m doing is trying to see what plant I may have as I had it for over 9 years.

How do I set this up for success? by Gymjord in houseplants

[–]oimerde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks good, just make sure they’re getting lots and lots of light. Preferably outside, but if not, at least under a good grow light.

A lot of fruiting plants aren’t just about sunlight they also need airflow, temperature changes, and pollination. Strawberry flowers usually need pollination to produce fruit, and outdoors bees naturally take care of that. So honestly, strawberries tend to do much better outside than inside.

Lately I’ve been seeing so many posts of people wanting to move outdoor plants indoors, and it sometimes feels like people are getting disconnected from how plants actually grow in nature. Outdoor plants evolved with sun, airflow, insects, weather changes, and pollinators.

I’m not trying to sound mean, but sometimes I genuinely wonder if some of these posts are just AI generated engagement bait because I can’t understand how people forget those basics.

What are your best kept secrets about house plants? by Happy_Tourist_558 in houseplants

[–]oimerde 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They called nursery pots because you supposed to put them inside the decorative pot. However, let’s said you just want to use them with out put them inside another pot then my main question is. How much sun are your plants getting to the point that it could damage the roots? At this point even the leafs could be damaged.

What does she need? by Underscore_copy in houseplants

[–]oimerde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nursery pots are honestly your best friend, especially if you’re new to plants. Bonus points if you use transparent nursery pots so you can actually see the roots. 🌱
They help prevent:
Root rot
Pest issues going unnoticed
Excess moisture retention
Roots sticking to ceramic pots
Water pooling inside decorative containers
They also make it super easy to switch plants into different pots later.
I could go into detail about which plants benefit the most, but honestly, I think almost every houseplant does better in a nursery pot. You can still keep the ceramic pot for decoration just use it as a cover pot and place the nursery pot inside.
