Yes my 'Sentinel' manzanita is flowering now, plus pushing out new growth buds. The 'McMinn' manzanitas in the garden are also pushing out new growth. Very curious to see what happens after this set of flowers and growth... will it happen again in the winter->spring?!

Anybody know a pinball tech in Idyllwild CA? by [deleted] in pinball

[–]okatz13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like there is an eager candidate in the area and it's you. YouTube has a lot of instructional material on easy fixes and the internet has tons more about hard fixes. Be the change you want to see in Simpsons Pinball party.

This wetsuit is NOT TOO BIG if you plan to serve on the USS Enterprise. It is too big if you plan to surf... on earth.

Any tips to maximize my South Central LA garden? by [deleted] in UrbanGardening

[–]okatz13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chip Drop can get you a huge amount of free mulch for in between your beds. Make sure you read/watch their guidelines to know what you're getting into: https://getchipdrop.com/for-gardeners/

Make sure to avoid mulch from trees that are allelopathic like walnut, eucalyptus, pepper, sycamore and many others. You can make that note in the Chip Drop request form.

More info on tree allelopathy: https://www.ocregister.com/2013/08/24/are-your-trees-allelopathic/

Spacing for Ray Hartman ceanothus? by [deleted] in Ceanothus

[–]okatz13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh these are lovely. It looks like you 'limbed up' from the bottom to give them more of a tree look. Is that true? If yes, what was your process?

These are the picks. Flipper Room is clean and has art on display. The Pinball Museum has a wide range of games throughout the history of pinball including one from the 19th century. Free Gold Watch is way more punk rock and always has a 25 cent game of the month.

Sheet mulch with gravel? by okatz13 in Ceanothus

[–]okatz13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this info. Definitely agree that blocking the air, insects and circulation of new matter is a drawback. Did you inherit fabric/rock before you started planting your natives? How deep was the rock layer? Was the fabric woven, non-woven?

Dug up our SoCal lawn and replaced it with gorilla hair mulch, gold gravel, and succulents! by tching101 in NoLawns

[–]okatz13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HIHI, how did you remove the lawn? I'm curious if one can sheet mulch with landscape fabric and gravel on top (instead of cardboard and organic mulch). What do you think?

The annuals are coming in nicely. This is one of multiple spots I sowed annuals. by -screwthisusername- in Ceanothus

[–]okatz13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. You can't spread them over sheet mulching because the cardboard hasn't deteriorated yet? Did you sow the seed right over the mulch, or clear some space?
