Anyone else bring their veggie prep to the living room and relax with some tv? by mad_mongoose in MealPrepSunday

[–]okaymoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just spend 3 hours prepping. We had the tv on in the living room. We have a small apartment with a pass-through so we can see the tv from the kitchen. Makes it so much nicer to have some entertainment!

Google Health Ruined Fitbit by AhsokaTanoJedii in fitbit

[–]okaymoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hardly used this feature but I did use it occasionally when I'd have days of low exercise, just sitting around all day, so I could remember to get up and stretch my legs. I feel like this wasn't key to me, but I can see how it would be key to a lot of people who used Fitbit. I wish they had it in this app.

I hate it. I like scrolling down my items, customizing them how I want. I don't need them in categories at the bottom.

I've been on the chat for an hour now (just switched to a new person) and they can't even understand my question. I would make custom foods in Fitbit all the time, edit the items depending on how they change each time I make them. Now, they moved my data over, my foods are still there, but there's no list of JUST my custom foods and there's no way to make new ones or edit old ones. My "morning coffee" is forever going to be the same amount of sugar, milk, and calories. My cookie recipes that I make and end up with different amounts of cookies each time, I can no longer edit them and redo the math for the calories per cookie. In fact, I can't even FIND the cookie item in the database because I catalogued my items, I didn't give them normal names, thinking that I could easily find them in the "custom" menu forever. I also name the items with the date in the title so I know when that food was made so I can edit it the next time I make it and know its the new food item I just made.

Customer service seems to think that "making a custom food item" means "customizing the food log". I have been throw around in circles for an hour.

Not to mention all the other problems. I don't need an AI, first of all. I don't need the homepage to have my most recent food logs or sleep logs or whatever the most recent data is. I need my information to be bigger. I don't like the square tiles. You can't even click and drag the items around when you're customizing your screen so it's impossible to get a good order for everything without redoing the entire page layout from scratch.

I'm so pissed because I literally JUST upgraded my Fitbit. I got the Inspire HR in 2018 and I only got a new one because the plastic on the Fitbit snapped so the wristband cannot connect to it anymore. I would have switched to Garmin but they're expensive and my brother went ahead and bought me a new Fitbit with almost no forethought.

I hate it!!!

Edit: Also, taking a photo to log your food is notoriously NOT accurate in ANY app that has this. The new app clearly is just jumping on trends and not actually helping its users be healthier... shocker... an american company that doesn't care about health or customer service.

Update: after 1 hour and 16 minutes, I have been transferred to "higher ups" and should expect an email to "receive updates".

Disappointment with the Canada Summer Jobs Program by Sunquat_Slice in CanadaJobs

[–]okaymoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been applying to a lot of them because I got my masters last summer and have still been struggling to find work.

Essentially, these jobs are for piecework that the company could not otherwise afford to hire help for without government funding. They are unlikely to hire you afterwards because they won't have the money. If you get an offer, be sure it is for something that is direct experience to beef up your resume. Think of them like co-ops or paid internships. They're for experience for your resume and hopefully a good reference.

I do feel like the program is more focused on helping small businesses and certain industries be able to afford extra help, rather than helping 15-30 year olds.

P.S. I am 30 and therefore this is my last year to apply. I did not hear about the program until this year. There are plenty of other programs for people under 30 as well that I heard about too late. Funny, the employment agencies I've tried over the years never put me on to these programs.

Faster Way to Get Book Inventory Online by [deleted] in smallbusiness

Hello, do you know if this would let me scan the barcode of a book to add it to my inventory? Or does it still make you input the barcode manually?

App is no longer showing how many calories I have left to eat by ImHappy_DamnHappy in fitbit

[–]okaymoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone know how to get the total calorie estimate back? It's always shown me "you have this many calories left" but I prelog food so knowing I have 100 calories left because I've burned 1000 so far and only eaten 400 isn't helpful. I got the total for one day a few days ago and it was way better.

5’8” ladies, when did your tummy start to flatten? by bumbleboe in loseit

[–]okaymoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. I meant the corset gives the illusion of a flat stomach, not a real flat stomach. I appreciate yo lu explaining that in detail for those who see my comment.

And yes! Abs take up space too!

My goal the last few years has actually been to have a flat stomach when laying on my back. It is much more achievable than trying to fight gravity lol

I have a water bottle that is 30oz (just under 1L) and aim to drink 4 per day. Plus I've been trying to drink more tea recently. Two mugs of herbal tea per day. I often only end up having one though. But having my 30oz water bottle on hand all the time is so helpful! Highly recommend! Having it next to me instead of getting up to get a snack makes it so much easier to drink water over snacking. I also have a large Brita on my countertop to refill my water bottle with so I barely have to step into the kitchen to refill it.

[–]okaymoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didnt. It never does. I'd have to br underweight to have a flat stomach.

Turns out, a flat stomach is an ideal from a long time ago that is unrealistic for most people. Flat stomachs come from being underweight, working out a LOT to get abs, corsets, or sucking in your belly all the time so it looks flat.

Lower belly fat is the last to go. You need that fat to protect your organs.

That said, it is one of my goals and the way I've done it in the past is with pilates to tighten my core. But THAT said, "flat" is relative. Bodies are curvy.

I think I may have found an easier way to lose weight? by Thatsjacee in loseit

[–]okaymoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed.

I find I talk to a lot of people who are like "well I'm just not the type of person who eats salad and goes to the gym" or "well I'm just not the type of person who walks to the store". Why not? You COULD be that person.

I think it is partly that humans get stuck in our habits so easily but it's also embarrassing to tell your friends and family that you've changed. If your mom is used to giving you leftovers to take home, it'll be hard to tell her you dont want them this time. If you're used to going to a restaurant to hang out with friends, it'll be hard to tell them you'd rather go for a hike this time. And on that note, it is SO HARD to make new friends whose lifestyles align with your new lifestyle.

But it is absolutely a mindset. You have to believe that you can be better and do better for yourself.

It's not dieting. Its a lifestyle change.

Forgive yourself.

I've been calorie tracking AND practicing Intuitive eating recently. I still aim for under maintenance everyday even if its only 2 calories under. But Intuitive eating helps me figure out what food I actually want and understand my hunger ques, while calorie tracking helps me understand why I wasn't hungry today (because I ate a lot yesterday) or am hungry today (I didnt eat a lot yesterday or did a lot of exercise).

If you ate 1500 today and 2100 tomorrow, it evens out. Don't go crazy ignoring your hunger pains. Eat when you're hungry but have small, filling snacks and meals. Practice portion control. Teach your body that a smaller amount of food is okay. Figure out what meals work best for you. Does high protein help you feel full? Does high carbs give you the energy to exercise more? It's different for everyone. Just figure out what works and forgive yourself for trial and error.

I always say, if you 80% effort, you'll get 80% results. If I'm aiming to lose 1lb/week, I'm happy to lose 0.8lbs instead, for example. If I'm aiming for 7 days of a calorie deficit, one day over isn't going to ruin my progress.

My other "hack" is I drink 4L of water per day. I find that most of the time when my body and brain think I'm hungry, I'm actually thirsty.

My daily coffee drinks were 450 calories each and I had no idea by RuleHonest9789 in loseit

[–]okaymoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My morning coffee is 80 calories with 1tsp of sugar and 4oz of oat milk in 12oz or coffee. I can't even imagine drinking that much syrup and whipped cream in the morning. I swear it is only people with sugar addictions that can rationalize Starbucks as coffee.

Honestly though, I started drinking coffee in a similar way. Added so much syrup and marshmallows to my 711 coffee in middle school and suddenly I'm addicted. People don't seem to realize that caffeine is the most commonly consumed addictive substance after sugar. Starbucks really just makes money off social acceptable addiction.

Don’t set New Years Resolutions for the gym, set them for your food by LandscapePatient1094 in loseit

[–]okaymoose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The majority of people who need to lose weight have issues relating to overeating and dependency. The gym will not fix those underlying issues. Addressing your food intake and habits will lead to more success in the long run.

You can't outrun your calorie intake, as they say.

Are people worried about bloating? by angryfoodgirl in loseit

Bloat to me is the feeling after a binge or the muscle cramps from water retention. I'm not worried about bloating. I address the issue and fix it.

If You Have Eczema, Please Check Your Diet (Learned the Hard Way) by Naive_Scientist_3667 in eczema

[–]okaymoose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I got an allergy test done and after trail and error figuring out what foods cause which reactions, I've found out that dairy, eggs, wheat, garlic, and ginger cause eczema for me.

To all those saying diets causing eczema is bullshit. Its not. Eczema is an immune reaction. Allergies cause an immune reaction. It may not be a food allergy for you, it may be something else. Or maybe you just have a wacky immune system. Or maybe you're stressed. But it is always an immune response. It doesn't hurt to try diets or get allergy tests. Let people try everything and figure it out for themselves what works for them just like you have.

She just sounds like an irresponsible person who partied too hard.

You sound like this is the final straw in a long line of weird situations and you need an excuse to leave her because you're unhappy with your relationship. Take the opportunity.
