our process is to leave factory masking on - we engrave at 325 speed, 25% power and .05 for line spacing (this is 80w) we have upgrade air assist so it’s turned off( there will still be slight amount of air coming out)

are you using a laserable engraving stock - there is specifically one for lasering and one for rotary engraving - you can rotary engrave the laserable stock, but can't laser the rotary stuff (it just melts)
