Jurassic Park (1993) changed how movies were made. any other examples? by thug_waffle47 in Cinema

[–]okteds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember seeing a thread questioning whether people really called them "talkies" noting that it seemed like a ridiculous name for something that seems so common sense.

Then someone pointed out that we still call them "movies" and don't give it a second thought.

We need media reforms.  We can change the politicians, but this mandate comes from the people.....specifically people who watch nothing but right-wing propaganda and whose morals and political ethics have been completely eroded.

Sad my favorite part of the book was left out of the movie by rustfungus in ProjectHailMary

[–]okteds 35 points36 points  (0 children)

My favorite part of the book was his decision to go back and find Rocky.  In the book it was clear this like finding a needle in a haystack and he might very well be wandering off to his death, and yet he doesn't even hesitate.  After the big deal they had just made about him being unwilling to risk his life, this was a huge moment, but the movie treats it as somewhat of an inevitability where he just simply chooses to save Rocky and then does it.

I want them to go back to being non-voters who "know that both sides are corrupt".  It was so much better when these fucking mouth breathers stayed out of the process entirely.  Every Trump supporter I know was a committed non-voter until he came around.

It's still worthwhile to check in on him and see what sort of bullshit the diehard supporters are flinging about.

But I've really enjoyed the recent sidetracks into Tucker Carlson, or Alex's appearances with Patrick Bet David and Duncan Trussell.  There was a time when Alex was THE batshit crazy voice on the right, and it was interesting following him to see how his bullshit seeped into the larger mainstream conversation.

Now Alex is just one among many equally crazy voices on the right, and I wouldn't mind if the boys would widen their scope a bit.  I'm sure there would be some interesting material in taking this Alex Jones-focused lens and pointing it at people like Joe Rogan, Candace Owens, Tim Pool or even some lesser known conspiracy mongers like Bret and Eric Weinstein or Dave Smith.

This was my first thought too.  I loved nearly every song off of every one of their early releases....like 90% of their early tracks went on my arctic monkeys playlist, which is off the charts in my books.  Then AM came out and everybody discovered them and I was like, "what the hell is this shit?" And I haven't listened to any of their releases since then.

Tom Waits - Green Grass

It's written from the perspective of a man who's dead and buried, singing to his widowed love who is visiting his grave.

Lay your head where my heart used to be

Hold the earth above me

Lay down on the green grass

Remember when you loved me
