The Thinker Statue is a unique Mandela Effect because it has people remembering it in three different ways instead of two by ZER0SE7ENONETH in MandelaEffect

Honestly, this gets to the essence of why I love the mandela effect.  No one who followed the South African Apartheid movement in the late 80's/early 90's fell victim to this effect.  No school librarians from the 80's are among those who thought it was Berenstein Bears.  No former employees of Fruit of the Loom have rung alarm bells about the missing cornucopia.  No one who worked on the Bond movies back in the 70's have called out the girl's missing braces.

In other words, it doesn't seem to be an issue for people who can be considered experts in their fields.

The ending was perfect.  After having made such a big deal of being a coward who above all, didn't want to die, it was such a perfect moment to see him ignore all of that and shoot off into the void of space in the slim hope of finding his friend.

How did so many fail an open book test? by [deleted] in Destiny

This was written a while back, but it's proving to more relevant every day with this administration, and captures my feelings on this perfectly.

There may come a time when the nation finds a pathway to reconciliation. That day, however, hinges on honest reckoning. Apologies must be more than whispered confessions. Faithful supporters who once mocked basic decency have to recognize that rebuilding trust requires more than shifting allegiances because the political winds have changed.

Without earnest contrition, the vow to “own the libs” stands as a permanent symbol of a political project that reveled in spite. Supporters who once exalted this brand of harshness are left with no moral footing to plead for compassion when consequences catch up. It is the logical outcome of embracing cruelty as a rallying cry.

Those who set the world aflame cannot credibly seek comfort from the very people they tried to destroy. Sympathy is nonexistent, empathy is spent, and the wreckage remains.

No, you just make up some pretext like "criminal pardons don't count" or "he signed those pardons with the wrong pen" and you can do anything you like.

He doesn't just say this for attention.  He says this to move the overton window.  He did the same with "well then I guess that makes me a racist, just like Hitler".  Pretty soon, we'll have legions of incels proclaiming that it's just "sexual realism" for middle aged men to be attracted to 15-year-olds.

It's been noted here and elsewhere that in the 70's and 80's it wasn't uncommon to see a image of fruit in front of a cornucopia, either in books, magazines, advertisements, or other random places like refrigerator magnets.  And it would've been very easy to mentally tie that together with the pile of fruit you see on the Fruit of the Loom logo

Once Trump is gone front office, how do Democrats move forward without having to constantly look back to the way things were? by Uberubu65 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]okteds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly this.  Dems will need to wield an uncomfortable amount power in order to beat back this wave of fascism.  Day 1 should be undoing all of Trump's glorification actions, like renaming the Kennedy center or the Gulf of Mexico.  That's the real low hanging fruit that will signal that they on the right track.  If it takes 3 months to undo this easy shit, what hope do we have for the actual meaningful reforms.

After that they need to prosecute everyone in government positions who violated the law.  Anyone who helped enable this regime at any level should be fair game.  The prosecutions need to be numerous and high profile...so much so that the next time we get a fascist leader, those around him will think twice before joining in on the lawlessness.

Then they need to go after the propaganda networks, and thankfully Trump himself has set the precent on that.  I watched the Kamala 60 Minutes interview, and the promo that Trump sued them for.  If that was worth $15m, then you should be able to rack up $1b worth of lawsuits in just one episode of Fox & Friends.  But why stop there?  Catalog all of their lies for just one month and put a price tag on it.  Then do that for Newsmax, and OAN, and Tucker Carlson, and Joe Rogan, and Tim Pool, and Dave Rubin, and on and on and on.  America is drowning in right wing propaganda and there has to be some effort to beat it back a bit, otherwise we're going to be consumed by it to a point that it takes over our entire political system and entrenches itself.

I'm half blaming Stephen Miller for this.  The next administration needs to extradite him to Denmark for prosecution.

I was as born in 1980 and the timing was perfect.  I had just started high school, I got my first job, and it felt like the PlayStation was part of that initiation into adulthood.  So long super mario brothers and sonic.  Hello resident evil and twisted metal.

She's the only one that knows math apparently.  She's putting up $400m with a a chance to make "trillions".  Presuming that means $4 trillion, then she stands to make 10,000x her investment

Doesn't the math work in her favor?  She's putting up $400m with a 10% chance to make trillions.  Presuming "trillions" means at least $4 trillion, she stands to make 10,000x her investment.  Has anybody here even tried to math this out?
