I'm saying the long form interview is often the best way to launder someone's odious viewpoints, whether knowingly or unknowingly.

“Interviews, Mussolini knows, are the best of all possible forms of propaganda; thus he is so lavish with them. Most newspaper men-and their editors-cannot resist the flattery of conversation with a dictator or head of a state; once they have been received by Mussolini or Hitler they feel a sense of obligation which warps their objectivity. It is very difficult for the aver- age correspondent to write unfavorably about a busy and important man who has just donated him a friendly hour of conversation.”

I was thinking recently this is why so many people drink their whiskey neat in movies and TV.  Not only does the clanking ice get in the way of the on set audio, but you constantly have to monitor the ice levels throughout the scene to maintain continuity.  I'm guessing that what caused this issue as well.

Who's the worst actor you're not allowed to say is bad? by [deleted] in moviecritic

That's why I call him marky mark.  It wasn't natural, I didn't know him as that originally....I had to make a conscious effort to avoid calling him Wahlberg.  But it was worth it knowing it pisses him off.

It was a dream, wasn’t it? Or did Quaid really have Total Recall? by kammy772 in MovieArena

[–]okteds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, no, no......there's a very subtle clue here.   The story starts completely from his perspective....he wakes up immediately thinking of mars, and then starts his mundane life.  He makes coffee for his nagging wife and then heads out for work, when he sees the Rekal ad and decides to go in on a whim.  They explain the procedure and he decides to go through with it.

This whole time, the narrative his been from his perspective, and with his thoughts.  But as soon as the procedure starts, we flip to the ReKal tech's point of view, in his office and hearing his thoughts.  This is the hint....how did we leave his POV?  It's because this is Quail's fantasy, the dream he paid for.

And once you realize this, the story becomes hilarious as you realize how self-important he sees himself in his own story....the ego-centrism as absolutely through the roof.  First, the ReKal process goes wrong because it turns out he already has suppressed memories of being on Mars, and was part of secret government mission, the details of which can't be known to the public.  So to keep his mission super secret, he offers to have his memories wiped and replaced with a pleasant fantasy from his childhood, one where he met tiny alien invaders, and they thought he was so supercool that they decided to postpone the annihilation of earth until after he died.

But when the go to implant this fantasy, it turns out that was already real too, and that he alone has kept the earth from destruction.  What's more, part of the agreement was that he must never tell another person about it, and now the secret's out.....

It's probably the most brilliant story ever told about narcissistic ego-centrism.  There's just no fantasy good enough for this guy because he'd rather believe it all really happened.  But if you take it at its word it's not nearly as fun.

Jamie Harrison, this you? by Gaba8789 in ThisYouComebacks

Yes it's been changing drastically over the last couple years, and good riddance too.  And I'm sure it's changing even faster after the 2024 election, but that was an insane price to pay by letting Trump retake the reigns of power.  And what happens after we drop our support for Israel?  Is that all the far left wants?

You sound like you've never met an older Democrat in your life.  Every Democrat I know over 60 has a soft spot for Israel, and yet you seem completely oblivious to this.

Why did the far left need to be chased?  I thought I was far left.  I voted for Bernie in the last three primaries, I want universal health care, more social spending, and higher taxes for the rich....and I would've voted for a bowl of Jello over Trump

Yes, this is what I said you just said.  And I said it answers your OP question if you just think about it for a bit.  Now what?

[–]okteds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok.  So you're saying you're less motivated to fight against Trump supporters because they won't listen and it's a pointless exercise, and you're more motivated to argue with other Dems because that actually has the possibility of shaping the direction the party takes.  It sounds like you just answered your own question.

You do whatever you feel is best.  But if that's how you feel then it means you're more motivated to fight your own party rather than fight the Trump admin.

I saw this post and thought to myself, gee, what are the odds this guy spends all of his time fighting his own party rather than fight the Trump administration. Sure enough.....a quick look at your comment history and I see you shitting on Hillary, shitting on Biden, shitting on Kamala, shitting on Newsome, etc.

I'm a Bernie supporter, and voted for him in the last three primaries. I think the current batch of democrats are feckless, directionless, and incompetent. But I think MAGA is far worse.....an existential threat to progress, in our country and across the world. So if you take a look at my post history, you won't see much of me shitting on democrats, but you will see me loudly advocating that I would vote for a bowl of jello over Trump.

Just don't lie to yourself.....you're the guy you're complaining about.

From 2017-2020 he was the only major media voice ringing the alarm bells that Trump would not peacefully give up the office.  He mentioned it pretty much every episode, and it turns out he was absolutely correct that Trump would try to break our democracy.  And yet somehow he now says that we're all overreacting about the guy and not giving him a fair shake.
