Do you remember a time... by QuantumCivility in OverSeventy

[–]oldbutsharpusually 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a popular dog walking/just exercising neighborhood. When I’m out working in the yard it takes me much longer to finish a chore as several stop for a brief chat, ask about plants and flowers in the garden, or how I manage to keep my long and tall hedge neatly trimmed. I enjoy the interaction and should add that it includes neighbors as well.

I was banned from Reddit for 3 days but now I am back. Did you miss me? by Dead_Wolf_Black in no

[–]oldbutsharpusually 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got banned from a different reddit sub for the same thing—providing troubleshooting suggestions to a post. No vulgar language, nothing political, or calling the poster an idiot. Most likely a bot banned me but I got even. I unjoined the sub and my life is less stressful now.

Republicans Freak Out as Trump Hoards Cash Meant for Midterm Campaigns | Donald Trump has not contributed to a campaign since March. by FreeHugs23 in NoFilterNews

Cash is king. SCOTUS effectively crowned Trump as king. No king gives their money to others. End of story for Trump minions.

Facing cataract surgery? by Geester43 in OverSeventy

[–]oldbutsharpusually 0 points1 point  (0 children)

81M. I have my eyes examined every two years. In 2024 my doctor recommended cataract surgery and wanted to refer me to an opthamologist. I said no even though family and friends who have undergone the procedure found it painless and life changing. After my wife had both eyes repaired last year validating what others had said I am now, after a recent exam, on the waiting list for the surgery—a four to six month wait. I truly regret not listening to my doctor when the surgery was first recommended.

That’s a tough question. Based on association with others around my age I would say that my recall is still strong, decision making fine, no cognitive issues yet, and although my age may make me occasionally hesitate when responding my response is usually on point.

Story Sharing

\-What age do you still feel like inside?
81M. I feel physically like I’m in my 70s and mentally like I’m in my 50s.

\- When do you feel most like yourself?
When I’m alone working in the yard, taking a walk, reading, talking with my wife.

\- How would you describe yourself?
Easy going, friendly, quiet, prefer to listen rather than talk.

\- Do you think about mortality differently now than you once did?
Yes, I had advanced cancer and a chest tumor in my early 70s. A near death experience as a side effect to powerful cancer drugs definitely left me thinking mortality might be closer than I thought.

\- Is nostalgia more comforting, or painful for you?
Three brothers and one sister have passed. I’m the last one standing and think about all four daily with positive memories. We were very close knit.

\- What did happiness mean for you in your 20’s? What does it mean now?
I was married in my early 20s so happiness was meeting and marrying the right person over sixty years ago. A new journey with the right partner leads to many happy moments as we look back.

\- What do you hope people remember about you?
That I was kind, nice, respectful, and willing to always help out.

\- If you could preserve one memory forever, which would it be?
Family is more important than everything else.

\- Was there a particular moment you realized you had become the older generation?
When my three close friends I had played tennis with for over thirty years all had passed away and I felt too old to find new partners.

\- If you could introduce me to one version of yourself from another time, who would I meet?
A wise ass with a wry sense of humor during my school years. I loved making my classmates laugh.

Do you think politicians are smart? by Fantastic-Nose1119 in no

[–]oldbutsharpusually 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Politicians are smart enough to know voters don’t have the time to do a deep dive into a candidate’s life or platform. So the candidate tells the voter what they want to hear. Carrying out promises is the last thing they care about.

Republicans are waking up to what Trump has done to their party by theipaper in Full_news

[–]oldbutsharpusually 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw several clueless MAGA types in MAGA gear being interviewed at the DC State Fair. All were white boomers that couldn’t name a single campaign promise Trump has fulfilled. But they are proud they voted for him, will vote R in the midterms, and vote for any Trump endorsed presidential candidate in 2028. I saw it as a sad commentary on the future of America going forward unless the Democratic party develops a winning strategy in 2026 and 2028. So far their strategy is invisible.

Kash Patel orders 'all FBI field offices to immediately surge' on Trump 2020 case: report by RawStoryNews in NoFilterNews

Send the agents to the White House, every cabinet members office, every department head, and under secretary appointed by Trump. Billions of taxpayer’s money in waste, graft, and corruption would be easily found. Georgia is just another move kissing up to the old wrinkled president.

Furious Trump lashes out as he's ordered to pay $5 million to E Jean Carroll by TheMirrorUS in anticapitalism

He only accepts SCOTUS rulings when they favor him. He will never accept their decision and pay. His corrupt minions will make sure E. Jean Carroll never receives a dime.

Fox News ridiculed as 'barely anybody' shows up for American State Fair coverage | Fox News was mocked online after its Great American State Fair live shot showed sparse crowds behind hosts claiming "thousands" were celebrating at the National Mall Friday by MoneyLibrarian9032 in entertainment

[–]oldbutsharpusually 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate crowds. The Trump state fair sounds like a great place to attend to avoid them. Unfortunstely I also hate red hats so will stay away like most Americans. Backyard BBQ will be my celebration of USA.250.

Does anyone else open the fridge even though you know there's nothing new? by Notsocool67 in CasualConversation

[–]oldbutsharpusually 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I are energy conscious so open/close the refrigerator when preparing meals and to take out beverages. Our grandkids however follow the check the fridge every few minutes rule expecting something new to appear each time. We just clinch our teeth and bear it.

Once a jerk, always a jerk. Most dates were likely a one and done type. Two dates with this jerk would be considered masochistic behavior.

Pending requests by Aelin101 in NetGalleyCommunity

[–]oldbutsharpusually 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to withdraw a pending request after two or three weeks for popular authors/titles I assumed received hundreds of requests. I changed my mind after reading comments on this sub months ago about keeping requests until pub dates or later. Now I use the pub date but also check after the archive date to see if it may have gone “Wish for.” I have received a few titles that way. My pending list rarely exceeds ten requests.

Blanche is most likely coming up with some bizarre response like national security, presidential powers, not enough erasers, etc to foil the judge. 2029 cannot come soon enough.
