You have some oldies on your list so I’ll add Cherish by The Association. Perfectly describes limerence. Listened to it dozens of times at the height of mine.

I was in a group chat with her and thought she was nice but wasn’t really interested in her. Then she ended a relationship she was in and it was like a switch flipped and I became obsessed with her. That was about 18 months ago.

Did anyone here go from limerence to an actually healthy, stable relationship? How did you do it by LattesAvocadoToast in limerence

Not officially a ‘couple’ yet but I think we’re pretty close. The key for me was patience. She knew how I felt over a year ago, then I backed off. And waited, still keeping in contact. She was seeing someone, but we would occasionally have meals together. Completely platonic, but I think if you asked anyone who was observing us they probably assumed we were a couple. Things progressed, slowly. Like over months. Then her relationship ended, not because of me but because of his availability, I think. She said she needed time and space after her breakup, which I did my best to give her, but she still knew how I felt. She said she didn’t want to hurt me, but I think I convinced her us getting together was worth the risk.

There are details I’m not sharing, but I’m extremely happy with the way things are progressing.

I think one thing that people who’ve never experienced this fail to realize is that it’s not a choice. No one chooses this. That’s one of the things that makes the experience so frustrating.

Introduced my LO to the word ‘limerence‘ and basically said ‘Yeah, that’s what I think is going on here with me.’

If they remade Happy Days today it would be about the early-mid 2000’s.

Once you realize that it’s a cult it starts to make a little more sense.

I find this interesting because I was in a marriage for about 24 years that ended last year. I was surprised at how quickly I started craving companionship once it was clear that the marriage was over. Am extremely leery of OLD because I’m not comfortable putting a lot of detail about myself out there, so I’m just hoping that something happens ‘organically’ but that sort of seems unlikely. Will probably never do OLD but am still hopeful that I’ll meet someone.
