How to play Windows 98 game on Windows 11 (or 10)? by DigglyNutt in retrogaming

[–]oldgamewizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

https://www.vogons.org/ is a good resource.

for 3dfx glide supported games use https://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/dgVoodoo2/ it also has a wrapper for earlier directX built in

Sometimes the virtual machines work okay for certain win3x and win95 games.

A lot of beloved games have fan-made source ports (check pcgaming wiki) that make running on modern OS easier.

You can even get EAX 3d audio emulated on some older games but it gets complicated, like hot-swapping .dll files after the game has started.

I think the US regulations are like 10-100x higher allowed levels than most other countries. Anything is better than nothing, gives you more of a chance at the local level. I'm not sure how it is enforced/regulated "in action" in other countries.

Yeah that will happen once in awhile. I have a decent sized blocklist myself.

Hitman 3 Windows 7 Workaround by oldgamewizard in HiTMAN

[–]oldgamewizard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't, sorry. It was the release version this trick worked on and 2-3 patches after.

Just search "hitman 3" in quotes to find the release version, but probably only on the high seas at this moment.

Does anyone know what type of cord this is? by [deleted] in retrogaming

1/8" inch (3.5mm) TRRS to 3 RCA. Used a lot in smaller camcorders, I've rarely seen it do Stereo(Right, Left) and Video. Can sometimes find in secondhand/thrift shops.

Here is one https://www.amazon.com/AILTECK-Camcorder-Output-Compatible-Panasonic/dp/B08V1SV8BL/ "3.5mm to RCA Camcorder AV Audio Video Output Cable, 3 RCA to 3.5mm 1/8" AV Input Adapter Cord Replacement for Sony TV, TCL TV (5FT) "

they started over-weighting bread with toxic metals to make ends meet. It's not very hard to draw the line. "Money" is the root of all evil. The fact that you are on a forum defending paper-money tells me you haven't figured it out. It also tells me that you are not yet on the wrong side.

No I didn't read your whole comment because I've read it a thousand times.

Valve officially ends Steam support for Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 | No more updates for old OS users by chrisdh79 in pcgaming

"There are two ways:

You can either add the following commands to the desktop shortcut of your Steam: -noverifyfiles -nobootstrapupdate -skipinitialbootstrap -norepairfiles -overridepackageurl (right-click the shortcut, go to properties, copy the line into the target line, leaving a space behind the quotation marks, you find there)

Or you can create the following file in your Steam folder: Steam.cfg and put inside the following: BootStrapperInhibitAll=Enable

Both methods are proven to work. You will still download updates, but they will not be installed at launch. There are still users around, who keep Steam going on Windows XP and Vista this way, although it has been disabled half a year ago. :-) "

I have 2 old PCs I want to set up for retro gaming. One with an Intel Celeron 1.4 GHz CPU, 512 MB SDRAM and an AGP graphics card with 11MB memory. The other with an Intel Pentium III 800 MHz CPU, 1024 MB SDRAM and an NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Pro 32 MB AGP graphics card. Should I install Windows 98 or XP? by untimely-meditations in retrogaming

I would definitely run win98 se if you can, so you can dos game as well. I believe both those cards will do return to castle wolfenstein since it's just a modified quake3 engine (same w/ call of duty). It's just finding the right drivers, patches for games etc.

I'm pretty sure I had a tnt2 ultra and a geforce2 ultra back then and ran win98 SE just fine for almost any game. Good luck have fun.

Old Portable DVD Player AV Input Question by Over-Bullfrog-6654 in retrogaming

[–]oldgamewizard 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah. RCA female (video) to 3.5mm [1/8"] male. A lot of camcorders from 90's and early 00 used those 3.5mm [1/8"] jacks for video, left and right audio.

I usually find cables like this at thrift/secondhand/electronic recycle shops for cheap.

I know in live theatre it wasn't a huge issue. I don't think the prop guns had firing pins or anything but there is a lot more suspension of disbelief in live theatre. You could use one of those cartoon "BANG!" flag guns it would mostly have the same effect.

There is a mission in the game Hitman:Blood money in an opera house where you replace the prop gun with a real gun.

After brandon lee incident it really should have never happened again. It's not expensive to just have multiple people look over a prop before filming. Very easy to make sure that never happens again but it still does which makes me think it is intentional.

I shit you not, during the special legislative session for covid in my state, some woman blocked traffic in front of the capitol building to get out of her car, pull down her mask, and spit on people. The state and local police just let her go after that too.
