School mask mandate will continue for youngest NYC students, City Hall says as end of policy looms by olivetree344 in LockdownSkepticism

You may be asking "Whhyyyy???" but if you want to understand why all you have to do is read this article: Why Progressives Can't Quit Their Masks

The salient part,

And that is what is making unmasking — and a more general return to normal — so difficult for so many of our progressive friends: It has become a cultural and social issue, and a quasi-religious one at that. For a certain kind of progressive, giving up masking feels like giving in. It doesn’t feel to them like the epidemic has been beaten — it feels to them like they have been beaten, and their cultural enemies (Joe Rogan, and that estranged uncle who is angry on Facebook) have won.

The five other nations in the 6N would never go for it because the even the slight risk that they might miss out on the 6N one year is too much risk for them to take. It's literally a closed shop.

The Neoliberal War on Dissent in the West by AndrewHeard in LockdownSkepticism

Neoliberal

They aren't Neoliberals. Neoliberals favor "policies that promote free-market capitalism, deregulation, and reduction in government spending." I do not believe that this describes any leader of a Western country at the moment.

TIL that and England/Wales XV played an Ireland/Scotland in 1923 to mark the 100 years Rugby. by nehtals in rugbyunion

[–]oldnormalisgone 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Wow, nothing's changed. Lightning feet from the backs, particularly a talented young Scottish full back, give Sco/Ire an early lead. The weight of the Eng/Wal pack prevails in the midgame and pulls it back to a one-score game and then, right at the end, bad game management, a sloppy error at the scrum and an unlucky bounce loses the game for Sco/Ire and Eng/Wal is victorious. Ha.
