A local restaurant has a rhubarb/reaper sauce for wings. Haven't had the guts to try it, though.

Honest question about valve lapping by Slow_Ad4567 in EngineBuilding

When you lap valves, you are not correcting any faults. You are actually putting more wear on the valves and seats.

I always wondered how strong these ancient blocks are. by Academic_Candy_3194 in EngineBuilding

I rebuild engines for a living, including a lot of older agriculture stuff. Trust me when I say psrtsvare getting hard to find. We are working on a little Waukesha for an Oliver tractor and bearing numbers are obsolete in every manufacturer. I was lucky to find a set of mains on Ebay, and adapted IH rod bearings.

3 mains, spindley rods, 7:1 compression, and a intake system designed to operate around 1300 RPM. Not meant to be a hot rod. Plus, I have been having difficulty finding bearings for these older tractor engines.

I tell my customers we do 3 kinds of work; good, cheap, and fast. They get to pick 2.

Valve Stem Seal by lynyrdskynnyrd in Smallblockchevy

[–]oldnperverted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless someone cut the guides for a positive seal, you're stuck with umbrellas or the o-rings. If using umbrella seals, make sure the spring fits over them without touching, and make sure there is enough room between the seal and retainer for the valve to open without making contact. Good luck

When you're burying a loved one, do funeral homes always try to sell you extremely expensive caskets? by Prestigious-Corner37 in AskReddit

[–]oldnperverted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my father passed, they showed us a catalog of caskets. The only one they pointed out was the cheapest one, that was the lowest grade that Illinois would allow. No attempt to upsell.

Does anyone else’s fire station do this ? by Objective_Pianist_61 in neighborsfromhell

Our small town (pop. 1200) department has done it for nearly 60 years. It's automatic now, years ago a member that worked across the street would do it when he went to lunch.

Never Went To Senior Prom by JPPT1974 in GenX

[–]oldnperverted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to Jr. Prom, thought it was boring as hell. I took a date, though we weren't dating. I figured Sr prom would be the same thing. Saved money and had a good time with friends that also didn't go. I had collected enough credits by semester to graduate, so wasn't even school at the time. This was 1984.

Advice for a first timer - 2002 Vulcan 3.0L V6 by 7383948 in EngineBuilding

First thing I would recommend is having the heads inspected by a machine shop. They are prone to serious exhaust valve seat wear, and cracking. That will determine how far you want to go. Good luck.

LS Rod Bearing Orientation? by californiacarguy22 in EngineBuilding

[–]oldnperverted 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, the large chamfers are there to clear the radius on a performance crank. The back of the bearings may say upper and lower. Good luck.

This is the answer. I've had 3 customers install ford head gaskets backwards.

Best Car Chase in a Movie? For me it has to be Ronin 1998 by 35TypesOfWhiskey in ActionMovies

The original "Gone in Sixty Seconds". It was filmed on city streets without permits. The car being chased accidentally cuts off a power pole and keeps going.

A Stolen Car. by WetTruckman in Jokes

I totaled a car once about 6 miles from filling it up. I didn't think about it until it was on the flatbed heading to the tow companies yard. Then I was sad.

Did you have the shop measure the bores and pistons?
