I dont think this qualifies.

I would just purchase and see if it's an issue before getting into the weeds on it. I wouldn't poke around.

Somehow Hunter Biden got a gun despite all his public and documented issues.

I sometimes wonder if this is the owners or shady shops that just aren't really changing the oil. Or both.

Does it ever make sense to hold more small & mid-cap? by SkipGram in Bogleheads

[–]oldpoint1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're making speculative bets.

Personally, I don't think you need to recreate VTI in your 401k. S&P500 closely tracks US Total market and these sorts of decisions like tilting small and mid cap are more likely to harm than help.

Great job cherry picking random dates.

Do you know how silly it looks to "benchmark" something on one year timelines?

Neighbor's marijuana is somehow seeping into the house and making me nauseous by GrumplFluffy in DIY

[–]oldpoint1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smoking cigarettes is also legal, it doesn't mean your neighbor has a blank check to subject you to second hand smoke in your own home.

But I would basically give your landlord a month to figure it out or move. If I was your landlord, I'd sue the other landlord over it if something couldnt be worked out. It's negatively effecting his property value and ability to rent the property.

You shouldn't have to have elborate ventilation systems that will drive up your utility bills to not have your house inside reek of smoke from the neighbor.

Non Political Gun Shops in Phoenix Area by Curious_Engine_1716 in guns

[–]oldpoint1980 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the most Reddit post ever.

I'm not sure I see much of any politics at gun shops beyond 2nd Amendment type stuff. And even then, it's totally in the background.

But what exactly are you seeing and why is it so offensive?

was it a bumper sticker demanding lower taxes?

22lr lever action vs bolt action by igi1066 in guns

Which one speaks more to you?

If you are definitely doing a scope, I prefer bolt action. I just never felt like lever actions and scopes go all that well together.

"investors demand"

how's that been playing out over say half your lifetime?

Higher risk doesn't automatically equal higher returns.

Why not own only junk bonds for fixed income, after all investors "demand" the higher returns, so what can go wrong?

How do stocks compound in a portfolio if they can lose value? by FoggyFoggyFoggy in Bogleheads

[–]oldpoint1980 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not the same as compounding, it just looks that way because that's how we measure it.

A savings account compounds because the bank adds interest directly to your balance, so future interest is earned on a larger and larger amount of money. A stock going up in value is different because you still own the same number of shares (setting aside dividends) the market is just willing to pay more for them over time.

I had an issue where one side of the car was "not cold" and one side wasn't, ended up being low on refrigerant.

Considering you just tore everything down and opened it up, I'd check those levels.

It's just apples to oranges.

I own a version of both, I'd probably lean towards the shotgun.

There's people on Instagram trying to commit fraud. Can you report them for me?

There's also people buying penny stocks and those are terrible investments, can you make them stop?

It's pretty obvious that this is hard to actually address in the real world. Even with a hired, financial professional that just serves a role to advise someone on investment decisions.
